  • Sewing circuits. Now that is a new one. Cool idea.

  • Wow you did a great job. I wanted to see an instructional before purchasing the lilypad. You really explained it well and look forward to making projects with it!! thank you!

  • MakeMagazine, can I use the Lilypad to patch-up holes in my jeans ? also, can I use the pcb board as a wheel for my robot ? ...thanks.

  • Great video. Easy to understand. Would love to see something more elaborate now. :)

  • Very nice! Thank you...

  • Thank you. It was a good starting tutorial :)

  • Great video.

Why do you not solder the thread down to the arduinos pads after you hook things up?

  • Great video.

Why do you not solder the thread down after you hook things up?

  • Will you be my 2nd wife? I'll supply all the ATMEGA chips you can ever need.

  • this video is just what i was looking for. thank you so much! it's awesome and wonderfully clear.

For the other ignorant haters who's brains cant comprehend why LED lights and liypads are important to the fashion world, look up Hussein Chalayan and do a 5 min research - technology and fashion combined is the future bitches, so STFU.

  • Where can I buy conductive thread?

  • I've been having problems with the lilypad for ages! you said it in 3 words - a reeboot button!!! you've single-handedly been more helpful than the arduino guides and google!

  • I don't see why you'd want to use the conductive thread when you can solder normal wires and then sew it down in place neatly with normal thread. What you've done looks like a mess. Especially if sewn to normal clothing, those bundles would be awful. Otherwise, this is a cool video!

  • @91thpe

conductive thread is a huge innovation that regular wires cant compete with on clothing. The real benefit is not looking like a computer is sewn into your shirt.

    Great Video

  • @91thpe this thread is a lot more flexible than normal wire. Normal wire will break a lot sooner than this stuff will.

  • Note: ALWAYS use a resistor with an LED. a 330 Ohm will work just dandy.

  • @fennecfanatic The arduino outputs are current limited.

  • Absolutely fantastic video. Clear and concise. Thanks for sharing.

  • she looks better with glasses...But i dont care, her vids are preety good

  • well done thank you simple and to the point you answered some of the ?s I had about the code writing thanks

  • SHe's a Hot Blond that can do Electronics!

    It's unHeard of!!

I wish I was with a girl like that!

  • Oh sweet geekness ;)

  • go MACs!

  • u should be given a noble prize......ha ha ha

  • why the hell?

  • TEKKIE arts and crafts???? can i have your number?? my heart circuits are all shorting out!

  • That's cool. Conductive thread.

  • does the thread act as a wire?

  • Yep, pretty much!

  • I had no idea such things existed.

    It's a "thread board".

  • hahaha! nice

  • lol im loving the youtube thing

  • Is there a real MakeMagazine that you can buy?

  • Yes, they have Make: at Barnes and Nobel. Craft: is actually going out of print and will only be available for viewing online for now on.

  • if all you want is blinking LEDs on your clothes, buy the ones that already blink and power with a coin cell

you will save yourself tons of time and money and your clothes will weight a lot less

    :~>

  • Could you do the same setup using less thread i watched and you thread a lot towards the lily pad.

  • yeah it's the embroiderer in me, I couldn't help it! =]

  • Out off al the things you can program, you make it blink xD

still it could be cool with other things

  • like I said above, this is just to get you started! =]

  • i like your desk where'd you get it?

  • ikea!

  • Wow, the hater comments are unreal for this. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it is youtube. Thanx for the intro to the lilypad, I found it helpful.

  • I'm glad! Thanks for the positive comment.

  • kip kay! that thing looks like a birth control container

  • Cool vid =)

  • Wait, the Arduino outputs 5V?

Shouldn't you use a resistor before the LED then?

Don't know of any LEDs that would be specified for 5V. 3V maybe, but 5V seems like overvolting to me.

  • You're right, and that LED is definitely brighter than it is supposed to be. The conductive thread has nontrivial resistance, so depending on how far away from the controller board it is, you might not have to use a resistor. Most LEDs are 3V.

  • could you possibly use this to put blinking LEDs on a tie? or would there be a better way?

  • This would be a great way to do that!

  • me!

  • kipkay is way better do more vids with him

  • ya kip kay is so better

  • Y E S ! ! ! ! !

  • KipKay is better you should show more of his videos and or at least give him days off so he could make much better videos then these on his channel!!!

  • wait,what does it do?

  • I think someone have some unread emails...

  • That was damn cool. Thank you for sharing.

  • what does this thing do?

  • the phone the phone lol =P

  • Very cool (and instructive!) vid. Nice work :)

  • nice vid and all but were the hell is kid kay i loved how he makes this vids u are ok but your vids are to fucking long and complex make it easy please

  • I agree, kip kay is my favorite maker

  • he does the normal make videos, this is craft which does (normally) diferent things.

  • Kipkay *

  • Girls who know electronics are HOT, and she's cute.

Very creative little project too! :)

  • soldering would be more easy

  • waste

  • ummm how the hell did this vid get over 10 mins?

  • and let us see a photo of yourself? Please, let us judge you.

  • @tarakonasxxx Ugly? You (and all the rest like you) don't know what is beautiful, what is ugly. Nothing wrong with her (she is very nice), and besides, try to learn what really matters, try to see deeper than just the outer shell.

  • Whats the point of this thing ?

  • lol ud be like HEY MUM LOOK WOT I MADE!!! DUNNO WOT IT IS BUT LOOK !! XD

  • make a tutorial for making papers with a printed lcd-screen onto pl0x

  • you have 245 emails lol

i really like that, there are so many things you could do with it

  • i want one now!!! i'm having imaginative thoughts :D

  • huge ring

  • i want kipkay, i dont want this girl, kipkays voice is amazingly soothing *drool

  • yes

  • This makes me think of all the detail that goes into making the Borg costumes on Star Trek. :-)

  • i love makemagazine, it is very creative, fun, and helpfull.

  • the vid is so long it would have ben way better if it was shorter

  • make arduino dueamilanove vids please

  • Oh, this is so cool, you are so smart. Next winter my hat is going to look like a blinking UFO wandering down the street.

  • It's make craft

kip kay doesn't do make craft

  • he doesn't do this stuff coz it sucks!

    MORE KIPKAY!

  • like you ?

  • Nice idea:)

  • Did I miss anything? Because I was away for 15 minutes...

  • Its a nice idea, but there are much easier ways to make an LED blink.

A more complicated pattern of several LEDs would make a more interesting project and would make using the arduino more reasonable.

  • This is just an introduction for folks who've never used it before; you have to start somewhere. Next time I'll cover sensors and more advanced stuff.

  • whats the point of this? totally pointless...

  • Nice !

  • does everybody have mac's and hd cam's at makemagazine?

  • Cuz they're not poor?

  • Not everybody's using Mac, but we all have HD cameras to bring you excellent quality video!

  • cool just for a blinking lde id put more

  • y use this if u can use a regular ardoino

  • Why use proper spelling and grammar when you can be lazy? Because it makes you look more intelligent.

  • you know at first , i didnt know about this girl

but shes really cool now! lol

  • Could be too much sewing for a programmer and too much programming for a sewer...

  • your right. ha

  • Yeah, that can be a problem, but there're are plenty of people like me who are interested in both!

  • Arduino free tecnology made in Italy !!

  • seems to hard..

  • cool

  • I ment keep rocking makemagazine :>

  • Keep rocking man!

  • What about reducing the voltage across the LED to match the voltage needed to make the LED conduct?..

  • 5/5 Nice Project And Useful :D i Liked IT TOOO MUCH

  • nice, finally something thats useful! ^^

5/5 and i wont subscribe again because i did month ago :P

  • I don't have a mac/ that thing or a make magazine...

  • You don't need a mac or a magazine to do this project, just whatever computer you have (Arduino runs on Windows, OS X, and Linux) and the electronics themselves.
