  • dude this guy is awesome he has inspired me greatly if something ever happened to kirk hammet, metallica should get u to be there new guitarist

  • ummm he's not THAT good just bcuz he can play master of puppets good. they would probably pick a well known metal guitarist that can shred like a motherfucker if kirk died not him

  • Hey Mr Serious dinnae burst mah WIN bubble.

  • @tallicafan0216 "if something ever happened to kirk hammet" planning something? lol?

  • the best guitar teacher on youtube i've seen... no doubt!

  • lol you play it better than i do

  • BRO if you know how he plays it -obviously so do you so why are you even watching this... complainers... who needs them

  • Kirk plays it with down picking!

  • Does He!? I had no idea I thought they played it with spoons. :|

  • Fuckin owned! Bow to the Master!

  • lol

  • verbal bitchslap haha

  • cool

  • guess this is your favorite guitar ya

  • I've watched so many of your lessons. They're so easy to follow, your teaching methods are awesome and so is your playing! I'm subscribing! Thanks a lot!

  • i heard that for metallica you scalop the amp out...

as in like turn the drive up real high, bass kinda meadium, mid really low, and treble really high. so i tried it on my marshall half stack... and it sounded pretty good... but not perfect. and i wasnt sure if that was right.

  • it seems pretty accurate yeah but maybe just the guitar and type of amp ur playin in makes it sound a bit different

  • Great lesson, but you forgot to use star power

  • lol

  • lolololollololol

  • you are a very good tescher you play very good the guitar thank you

  • Kirk Hammett actually demonstrates how to play Master of Puppets if you put in "Kirk Hammett shows riffs from Master Of Puppets" He doesn't explain it very well, but you can see where his finger placement for the intro. (Just to clear up any concerns you may have about the intro to this song)

  • Your an awsome teacher . I like the way u break things down. keep up the good work

  • down strokes bro. cant get the same effect without it.

  • Please read vid info.

  • no great job man. i'm just saying how down strokes are essential for that "raw Metallica" kinda sound. But i love watching your vids. Your one of few that actually give a legitimate explanation and lesson. Maybe i could help you one day! lol. keep it up

  • dude your fuckin awsome

  • GREAT LESSON! 10/10

  • You've been given alot of positive feedback,

    and so here's some more, 10/10 :D

  • i swear all my favorite online guitar teachers have a cool accent like this

  • the first power chord is actually an E power chord(E string open, A string 2nd fret)

  • It is indeed. I think I had a hangover from learning the riff years ago from the Cherry Lane book, which was incorrect. When looking at vids of them playing it live I concentrated on the descending powerchords and forgot about that opening E5.

  • yeah, I had that same problem, I had the cherry lane book, and I played it wrong.

  • octave higher e powerchord is right way to play it... First guitar plays E powerchord (E string open, A string 2nd fret) and second guitar plays it octave higher (A string 7 fret, D string 9th fret or E string 12 fret and A string 14 fret)

  • I've wondered about that too. I think on the recording for a nice heavy band hit there's an open E5 *and* E5 at 12th fret. Interestingly if you check out the 86 tour footage of MOP on youtube you can see both KH and JH play the open E5 powerchord. Of course what people do live and what they did on record tends to differ. In the grand scheme of things it's not that important, hey for one guitar you could even just play 0799xxx ;)

  • yeah :P

  • master number 1

  • SSIIIIICCCCCKKK!!! awesome playing and guitar lol

  • you are a genius

  • wat guitar is it cuz I WANT IT

  • Please read the video info.

  • you play that lick like a machine - awesome

  • amazing videos, got the same guitar as you :D rga321

  • u rock dude...

  • What? No down picking?

  • No, when I down pick my foot falls off... as I have mentioned I had already reached the 10 min limit before chatting about how Hetfield and Hammett play it.

  • oh shit i have that guitar!you slaughter that song dude

  • oh woops, i guess i could have read the description. that legacy sounds pretty good

  • is that the soldano or the legacy?

  • As mentioned in the video details, Legacy.

  • Thank you so much for these videos. They have really helped me master my favourite songs.

  • I really like your vids!! Thanks alot, they have helped me out alot. But, I think that 12 11 7 6 5 4 3 2 is not supposed to be muted.

  • Thanks! As I mention in the video ( 02:40 ) it's the only open E string that is palm muted when playing the riff. I'm just controlling the string later on.

  • Right. I am also playing the same as you :)

  • but wait... i thought james and kirk downpicked everything on this song? using only downward strokes gives it that percussiveness and ferocity that are associated with Metallica. maybe i'm wrong... you are the guitar master after all...

  • As I mentioned before ( see earlier comments ) I did have a section talking about playing the main riff Hetfield style with all downstrokes but left it out as I was overrunning the 10 min limit.

  • dude...ur ...gui....tar....

    omg *faints

    my dream guitar atm

  • hey there big fan of your NTR vids but im having an issue trying to get a decent sound out of my amp. saddly its a crappy wal-mart model (since i can't afford to pay for a Top of the Line model.) its a 1st act amp.

is there any way i could fix my sound?

  • get an effects pedaal if you havent got one?

  • what pedal in particular

  • Never really used any of the Line6 amps but I imagine using one of the hi-gain models without too much scooping of the mids may help and not as much gain as you think. So that it cuts through rather than being muddy sounding. There may even be a preset on the Line6 website. HTH Mark.

  • Hey, your awsome man how long you been playing?

  • Some might say too long ;). I started playing in 1989 :o

  • Holy Friggin crap thats before i was born.

  • what ibanez model is that your using? and what pickups are on it? thanks for your time

  • The guitar ia an Ibanez RGA321FSB ( catchy name eh? ;) ) Still has the stock DiMarzio/IBZ pickups as I quite like them.

  • Dude thats awesome :D your playing is sick and so is that ibanez :D i wish i could afford an Ibanez :P

  • hey man thx very much it really helpet me and can you show youtube how to play another part or master of puppets plz plz plz do a othher video of how to play master of puppets part 2 plx thank you very much and you are a really good teacher continue rocking man

    !!

  • damn good jo

plz can u make a video on how to play cowboys from hell by pantera

  • sorry but with alternate picking it can never be master of puppets :p... you´re a master though, you sound perfect!!!

  • hey man, you have inspired me to play guitar, and i have learned all of the songs that i know from your lessons, and some other people's lessons. But anyways how do you get that perfect sound? What are your strings tuned to?

  • that was man, I learned it best from you

I'd also to learn nightrain by guns n' roses if thats cool.

    right on, keep it up!

  • Thank you man, I've been fantasizing about playing this masterpiece for A LOT of time.

  • do you recommend downstrokes only? I can play it somewhat ok alternate picking, but all downstrokes is tough.

  • Whatever works for you basically. Mr Hetfield would of course play it all with downstrokes and that does give it a slight edge same way using all downstrokes on a punkier tune has attitude, but it is much harder :)

  • hello mark a few questions? what do u use to record your videos? i think you use a mic, could u say what brand and model is it? how do you aproach recording? what software do u use to record and put names in the videos? what camera do u use for this videos? i know many people would like to know the answers to these questions ... maybe a video explianing umm asking to much? LOL

  • I'll see what I can do :)

  • hi mark, long time no see...my fault. this lessons is the s**t. long awaited. the sound is killer. thanks!

  • ur the master!

  • dude! thank you sooo much!!!!

  • wat efects is he using?

  • I'm not using any effects, just guitar into Legacy.

  • great riff man! Maybe you could do a Megadeth riff next (if you haven't done so already)?

    Keep it Rockin m8!

  • I just wanted to throw out there that you have an awesome goatee.

    Thanks for the vid.

  • you are master, can you put a vid of this to teach me thanks!

  • amazing video dude, YOU are the master !

  • Awesome! Thanks a lot

  • Excellent vid, helped a lot

  • Thanks m8 ! Nice work !

  • sweet thanks for the video!

  • Gret Lesson for this timeless riff. :D Great for developing downpicking.

  • One of the greatest riffs def. I had a snippet talking about playing all with downpicking ala Hetfield and Hammett too, but overrun the 10 min limit :(.
