coldn't agree more, it's not as if he was actually serious about him replacing kirk, haha. btw ure the first awesome scottish guitarist ive seen on youtube so awesome stuff!
dude ur awesome, this video helped a a lot. i can play all the riffs, just working on the solo now haha. oh and omg i tried playing it with all downpicking and its so hard lol
ummm he's not THAT good just bcuz he can play master of puppets good. they would probably pick a well known metal guitarist that can shred like a motherfucker if kirk died not him
I've watched so many of your lessons. They're so easy to follow, your teaching methods are awesome and so is your playing! I'm subscribing! Thanks a lot!
i heard that for metallica you scalop the amp out...
as in like turn the drive up real high, bass kinda meadium, mid really low, and treble really high. so i tried it on my marshall half stack... and it sounded pretty good... but not perfect. and i wasnt sure if that was right.
Kirk Hammett actually demonstrates how to play Master of Puppets if you put in "Kirk Hammett shows riffs from Master Of Puppets" He doesn't explain it very well, but you can see where his finger placement for the intro. (Just to clear up any concerns you may have about the intro to this song)
no great job man. i'm just saying how down strokes are essential for that "raw Metallica" kinda sound. But i love watching your vids. Your one of few that actually give a legitimate explanation and lesson. Maybe i could help you one day! lol. keep it up
It is indeed. I think I had a hangover from learning the riff years ago from the Cherry Lane book, which was incorrect. When looking at vids of them playing it live I concentrated on the descending powerchords and forgot about that opening E5.
octave higher e powerchord is right way to play it... First guitar plays E powerchord (E string open, A string 2nd fret) and second guitar plays it octave higher (A string 7 fret, D string 9th fret or E string 12 fret and A string 14 fret)
I've wondered about that too. I think on the recording for a nice heavy band hit there's an open E5 *and* E5 at 12th fret. Interestingly if you check out the 86 tour footage of MOP on youtube you can see both KH and JH play the open E5 powerchord. Of course what people do live and what they did on record tends to differ. In the grand scheme of things it's not that important, hey for one guitar you could even just play 0799xxx ;)
No, when I down pick my foot falls off... as I have mentioned I had already reached the 10 min limit before chatting about how Hetfield and Hammett play it.
Thanks! As I mention in the video ( 02:40 ) it's the only open E string that is palm muted when playing the riff. I'm just controlling the string later on.
but wait... i thought james and kirk downpicked everything on this song? using only downward strokes gives it that percussiveness and ferocity that are associated with Metallica. maybe i'm wrong... you are the guitar master after all...
As I mentioned before ( see earlier comments ) I did have a section talking about playing the main riff Hetfield style with all downstrokes but left it out as I was overrunning the 10 min limit.
hey there big fan of your NTR vids but im having an issue trying to get a decent sound out of my amp. saddly its a crappy wal-mart model (since i can't afford to pay for a Top of the Line model.) its a 1st act amp.
Never really used any of the Line6 amps but I imagine using one of the hi-gain models without too much scooping of the mids may help and not as much gain as you think. So that it cuts through rather than being muddy sounding. There may even be a preset on the Line6 website. HTH Mark.
hey man thx very much it really helpet me and can you show youtube how to play another part or master of puppets plz plz plz do a othher video of how to play master of puppets part 2 plx thank you very much and you are a really good teacher continue rocking man
hey man, you have inspired me to play guitar, and i have learned all of the songs that i know from your lessons, and some other people's lessons. But anyways how do you get that perfect sound? What are your strings tuned to?
Whatever works for you basically. Mr Hetfield would of course play it all with downstrokes and that does give it a slight edge same way using all downstrokes on a punkier tune has attitude, but it is much harder :)
hello mark a few questions? what do u use to record your videos? i think you use a mic, could u say what brand and model is it? how do you aproach recording? what software do u use to record and put names in the videos? what camera do u use for this videos? i know many people would like to know the answers to these questions ... maybe a video explianing umm asking to much? LOL
One of the greatest riffs def. I had a snippet talking about playing all with downpicking ala Hetfield and Hammett too, but overrun the 10 min limit :(.
