This is because most games run on a 32-bit system, a higher number than that would cause the program to crash. now if the game were programmed on a 64-bit system the max cash or max anything would be of 9,223,372,036,854,775,807. How I know all this? because I'm good with computers :P

He forgot to mention if you're using version 1.4.1, you have to change the gameCenterNeedsUpdate value to 0.
