That's how I see this. Music in general, no matter which genre, was way better "back then". Now, all they sing about is some pathetic heartache they never had or to party all night.
yeah well we all know that the rappers cater to the homosexual gangbanger sect. real people with a brain listen to music like this not repetitive brain dead garbage like rap crap
Hey, is that Jeff Healey playing pedal steel? Sure looks like him. I saw him at a little club in Santa Monica early 90s when he was just starting to make it. Jeff (RIP) was blind and this guy doesn't appear to be, but I was not aware of him playing with DS. Would be too kewl. Does anyone know? Juts love the mournful, plaintive tone of both of their guitars. What a masterpiece!
I love Jeff Healey First saw him in Road house film, he was one outstanding musician, I went on to buy every bit of music of his that I could find, It is a shame that Musicians like him are still not around, he was and is still a great part of my life
Music is moving all of us in a different kind of way. We should not disqualify other kind of music we don't like. Because only life without any music is not life.
I fucking love Dire Straits, but music now certainly isn't crap!
Im guessing "Wickedmaiden13" and "ileo73" are over 30 years of age...... i'ts the only explaination to your attitude and inability to feel the flow of modern music. Lady Gaga is shit Taio Cruz is bait, all R&B is wank these days.
Hip Hop is where it's at my friends, i fail to see why our parents generation, (The names i mentioned in the last paragraph), don't appreciate it.
comfortably numb by pink floyd and this are 2 of the best solo's ever produced by the greatest guitar players of all time, these will carry on whilst we wither in the dust of mankind.
mark on telegraph, david on numb.. there were plenty more 30 years ago. listen more.. you're missing ritchie, jimmy, eric, eddie, angus, vendenberg, sykes, campbell, iommi man.. check "lonely is the word"
@scouse21 We have to put up with modern day crap like bobby68re says because the music industry is all about putting some catchy tune on the market that will make money, gone are the days when we listen to a band that puts there own perspective of life into music, it is all DUST IN THE WIND, (Kansas), Someone wants to outlaw Simon Cowell and his crappy TV programs that make shit music just to line his pockets, and bring back the band era with instruments instead of a mic on a stage.
Wow I live about 500 feet from telegraph road in michigan right by detroit but I never knew this song existed. Now It's gonna have to be my favorite song.
i don't know for this one but i do know that on their album money for nothing, there is a live version that is even better than this, it is sung with a bit more power, only it is a remix
please do not compare michael jackson with dire straits,,,,,,,,,,dire straits have talent,,,and loads of it!!!! mj tried to be white ,and failed, also not much in 28 years ,after thriller,
Last days I digged a little bit into Micheal Jackson''s stuff. His life, career etc. I also watched some live videos. To my surprise I found his live performance so disappointing. Although I never was in to this music, I use to think he was talented. Contrarily he was singing flat and acted forced. not natural. What happen with people's taste? It is actually not about taste but quality. Look at this: "the telegraph road" after all these years, I am impressed. So beautiful.
I totally agree that "the telegraph road" is an eternal masterpiece! And I also keep wondering what happened to the people's taste. Yet it's like you are trying to compare DaVinci's Mona Lisa with Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soups or any pop art. Or to better understand my idea that you are saying that it's smart to eat fillet mignon but it is stupid to eat bananas. Dire Straits and Michael Jackson are two very different genres of music and artistic performance yet both very unique.
I saw them in 1981 in Perth Australia, the night they played this song for the first time live.
I remember Mark saying that they had only just written this song and they hadn't even recorded a demo of it. Most people just stood in silence and watched...
I hope everyone has noticed how Knopfler (for the most part) uses his pinky to steady, and the other 4 fingers to strum with. Dont most use a pic? Hence why he '''maybe get a blister on your little finger, maybe get a blister on your thumb''!! Hahaa, genius!!
