Kiri doesn't hold a candle to the natural brilliance and sincere undistorted musicality of Whal Ran Seo. This is an absolutely glorious performance despite one or two tiny and forgivable technical blemishes.
Kiri te kanawa's version, althought very good, lacks the soul, the spirit of Rachmaninov. This lady sings with all her soul, it is beautiful and touches. This is more like Nezhdanova to whom Rachmaninov devoted the song. The technique in some parts can be a little bit better, but she definitely does better than most here on youtube. Excellent!
Oh my god... after hearing Fleming's version of this beautiful piece, I thought I would never hear another singer doing it better until I heard this... such warmth and beauty!
This is simply beautiful. I love watching her-- she is so expressive, and elegant. She doesn't hold back, and her tone is like pure crystal. I hope she comes to Chicago and I could see her in concert. God Bless.
Wow...what a gorgeous voice...

Who is this singer?

As it says (and I did not realize that it was her name): Whal Ran Seo, a Korean soprano who has achieved a great deal of recognition.
She has a good voice for late romantic arias. (I would like to hear Dawn Upshaw sing this.)

I like Dessay's version, but it's a little too light for my taste...

Indeed, and I'd like to add Ivan Kozlovsky as well. A superb rendition, if ever I heard one ;)
