But I buy nothing most days already. I don't think I've bought anything in the last week. Not even groceries. Unless you count the electricity I use, my phone and internet service which runs 24/7. I used postage to mail something - though I paid for the postage months ago. Do most people buy things EVERY day? That would be such a nuisance, to go out and buy something every day. Why don't you make November buy-nothing month? There'd be no point in abstaining for a day. Like fasting for an hour.
Yeah, but if a whole bunch of people deliberately didn't buy anything on a given day, that could deliver an actual message. Kinda like how boycotting a given product can deliver a message; sure, some people weren't gonna buy it anyway, but that's a different thing than making a point not to.
This year, Buy Nothing Day is November 28th in the US and the 29th internationally.
We encourage the use of guerrilla artwork and direct action to further the message of both anti-consumerism and Buy Nothing Day, under the banner "BUY NOTHING" (a form of franchise activism).
Hi man, thank you for this great video. 5*, just for the idea. If only people would really do this... I think that this should be broadcast on TV or something. Of course no TV station would ever accept to broadcast the message. :( Pass it on, I will too!
I don't think it would be like that. We make a lot of stuff that isn't needed. Granted, that stuff is a pleasure all of us enjoy from time to time but you have to admit that we could spend our money and time more wisely as a nation. We will always have work as long as we think about it logically. I would gladly give up having my pc, tv, dvd player, car, phone etc being "obsolete" for a 4 day work week or a longer vacation plan. They make stuff to only last so long, its not necessary.
No...it would be get fired day. If nobody actually bought anything that day, nobody would have a job that day. Buying things is what gives people jobs and increases standards of living.
Do you know how much it costs to manufacture a media campaign like Adbusters........ This not for profit group makes as much sense as fucking for virginity, or a booze-a-thon for alcoholics.

I think it's better to steal everything and give it to the poor, than buy nothing.

Is there a place to get posters for this, or should I just design my own? I'd really like to push this to everyone.

I don't think it's "quit your job day." That's August 15th.

So, you would get fired if your business had no customers for ONE DAY?
