You do not need to kill your best friend in order to get the mangekyou sharingan, you just need to FEEL the lost of your best friend

@AeroPiggy actually the best friend part is optional. The awakening of the mangekyou sharingan is triggered by losing the person that's closest to you.

Another possible explanation would be that kakashi activated it shortly after the cave collapsed and obito died, what happened after that was never showed so it's possible.

@Delic0usz itachi didnt gave the mangekyou to sasuke, itachi just rigged sasuke's eye so it would activate amaterasu when he see tobi's sharingan. if sasuke had the mangekyou from itachi, then sasuke's mangekyou would have the shape of itachi's mangekyou.

Kakashi's Mangekyou Sharingan is epic, it almost makes up for not having Susanoo and Amaterasu. Although I'd pick Kamui instead of Amaterasu anyway.

Well it doesn't have matter and won't be effected by susanoo. It can effectively attack Sasuke and potentially kill him. Why do I need proof, it's a dimensional jutsu so susanoo wouldn't be able to stop it. And since he can place it at any location and move it to fit his need, as long as he can avoid saunoo himse he is good.

kakashi does not go blind but his side affect to using a bloodline triat and not being of the bloodline is that the triat zaps his strength and if he used it past his limit it could kill him like it almost did on his first encounter with itachi and in later battles after that and it is a real sharigan it just rejects kakashi as its bearer becuase he recieved it as a late birthday present from a dying friend during the last war when he was still a kid.
