My question is, does this production eliminate some of the dumber moments from the films. Not that the films weren't excellent, but there were a handful of cringe inducing moments that were entirely unnecessary inventions of Jackson that diminished the story. I would hate to see some of those carried over to this show.

I have now seen Rent, wicked, beauty and the beast, tarzan, phantom of the opera, les miserables, hairspray, chicago, the lion King, west side story, joseph, sound of music. And while all west end/broadway musicals are spectacular (they wouldn't be in the west end if they were bad) - The Lord of the Rings was like nothing I'd ever seen, from the battles to the huge set they'd built. Absolutely gob-smacking.

i was lucky enough to know terry frish who plays bilbo and he took us backstage the day it was closing it was amazing

Ive seen a couple of london shows.. and by FAR this one is the best, most of the ones i saw after this just seemed boring and the sound couldn't even compare.

It's a great show! I've seen it once and I'm going to see it again soon! And the album is out now, i'm defenitely going to buy it! I love the song "Lothlorien" sung by Legolas and Galadriel.

It does work as a musical, personally i wouldn't label it as a musical (despite the fact it's classed as it) the music is all in context to the story, the book itself has singing elves, hobbits etc alot of the show is spoken too which stops it from being really cheesey during the sung parts and the dancing is not really dancing it's movement as they said in the video... anyone who hasn't seen it yet then do go! it's amazing, you won't have seen anything like it.

I just saw it today. Its great. The scenery is the best I have ever seen, by a long way. There could be more songs in it, and some of the acting is a bit extreme but we didnt stop smiling for hours. The Balrog is FANTASTIC.

I don't pretend that I'm in show business or anything. I'm just saying that the music and script in this show aren't much more than derivative, and it shows in the actors' attempts at tackling the script.

Okay, since I've been totally out of it in the last to posts, I'll clarify. First, yes, I AM in "show business." I act on stage at whatever opportunity I get. If you see "business" as making money, no, I can't do that at the moment (age).

Also: I didn't just assume the person was younger. I was pointing out that the comment they left was somewhat immature. Sorry, when I'm tired I always end up starting arguments like this.

I, again, never said I was in 'show business.' Honestly, acting and show business imply two different things. As an actor, I act, on stage, or wherever I get the opportunity, and work at it with the hopes of being in 'show business,' which to me means actually doing it as a career. Right now, being in school, I can not leave school to enter 'show business.' Now that that's settled, see next comment.

I meant the show on the whole was a waste of money. I think the visuals are stunning, yes. But the acting, script, and score are all relatively stiff, and when the try to be more diverse, it is artificially so. I honestly think they stick too closely to the book. Also, the music struck me as spastic and meandering. However, I am a harsher critic as far as music, acting, and script than most average theatre-goers.

I don't mean inventing new parts, etc. But certain parts of the book would not make a great musical. Just my opinion. A little changing of script/book to make it easier to stage would make the musical easier to understand.
