I understand why people say the things they have said in the comments but change is something that everybody fights against, whether people know it or not. We cannot change nature. War is human nature and peace is the illusion. Chaos, in the way we view it is the order of things and vice versa, Even so, it's good to hope.
I was playing me set of SACDs version of it, and the dang thing skipped so I came here, It's too nice to have it skipping at the end, ya know!?! What a moment in history. Love those big shows with the supporting fans in the thousands!!
EVERYONE is really good in this and their diverse voices blend really well together. I am a big fan of Bryan Adams, Van Morrison, Roger Waters, and, my all time favourite........Paul Carrack (at 1:36 and 3:38 and 5.20), so this song is particularly good for me! Cindy Lauper was also magic!!!! Paul Carrack also sang "Hey You" solo at the same event, which was great.
Waters Wall was about a rock singer that overtime slowly went nuts....... but to tear down the Berlin wall was certainly significant !! Floyd, always had it just right, with or without each other!!
Sad part is, there are kids alive ...teenagers...who have no clue the significant event that occurred to cause this concert to actually happen. Terms like "the wall" and "Iron Curtain" are just things in a history book.
I agree, even though I'm a teenager. Most teens don't care one way or another, but I'm not one of those teens. I think that the events that caused this event were VERY significant, and that without them, the world wouldn't be the way it is today.
try watching the wall with some pink micro dot like i did at leicester square odeon in 1980 when they just put sensurround in the cinemas.heavy shit but i loved it.30years later the O2 live.isnt life strange.
My and wife went to see the movie version of "The Wall" and as much as we love Floyd, it was one of the most depressing experience we ever heard. Adding this song to the end at this place, at this time, turns into one of the most amazingly optimistic moments in the human story.
All the way down the Southeast Asia, the Philippines, I love Roger Waters (and his Pink Floyd group). I still keep my casette tape on Radio Kaos. It's a rare and treasured find.
It takes an impressive man with a truely visionary idea to be able to bring so many people together for one cause. Roger is not only a classic visionary that will go down in history as one of the greatest songwriters ever, but is also a man who can bridge the gaps of race, creed, religion, and ideals for onle secular and meaningful purpose. We should all be so lucky to have lived in this time.
Roger Waters has humour..Listen to the song when the count down is...at 3-4 secs a man says.."I got a job". Hehe..4 seconds to maybe die:D Nice LP..O ya..had it as lp!
Impressive concert. Too bad Roger had to slaughter the songs with terrible guests like Cyndi Lauper and... Van Morrison. Don't get me wrong, he is great, but he completely destroyed C.Numb.
Who is that man in the black shirt to the right of Rick Danko at 6:11? I've never been able to identify him. I also never figured out where Paddy Moloney of The Chieftans appeared in the show (so claim the album credits.) That man does not look like Paddy.
@kingtarkus Just realised after years of scratching my head that it's Albert Finney, now completely out of the judge costume, and therefore totally unrecognizeable.
@larryoduncan That's because, at the time, the tide was turning. Add the emotional reenactment of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and it was a very powerful moment.
Oh My God!!!!! What a great take on this song! I have loved this song for so long and what an amazing group of artists to bring it together! My God how I miss this mans work!!!!!!! Great job Roger! would have been nice to hear your voice on this but I do get it! What an amazing take on an amazing song!
This performace kind of makes a mockery of The Wall. They made the songs way to trendy to the time in th early 90's. I like that 1979 feel of the album. I can bet if Gilmour and the boys did this album live it would have been even more epic.....
I don't think I could have ever recovered from the emotion of this glorious occassion, so it's a good thing I wasn't there. But this is why Youtube was invented. I know this always a touchy subject with Floyd fans, but I have to disagree. On the Turning Away I find as emotionally satisfying as anything from the Waters-era of Floyd. Marooned is one of the most powerful pieces of music I've ever heard no lyrics are needed to express what's going on. Coming Back to Life IMO is all soul. What do you want from me, you can feel Gilmour's raw emotion come through his singing.
