Saw Eric with Chris Maresh and Wanye Salzman on drums this past August in Mass. Met the band, extremely approachable and great musicians. Go if you ever get a chance, cheap tix/great value.
I like this bass player - too many great guitarists play over a very static 4/4 rock beat. I miss the interplay and nuance you get with Led Zeppelin etc. This bass player is capable of more than just a straight bottom end.
I was listening to this song when it first came out and still love it. It's a great song at anytime but I really enjoy it when going for a drive...such a happy song. I must ask though, is that the actor Benicio Del Toro playing bass?.....lol, just kidding.
He has got to have the most gorgeous violin-like, smooth time I've ever heard. It never is rough on the ears. Even when he plays loud solos with overdrive.
I know (understandably) it's Eric Johnson's gig but showing what the bass player is up to every now and then shouldn't take too much away from the intended message, should it?
This song is magic to me. I could play it note for note when I was 20 yrs old in 1990. Now I'm 42 and dangit I forgot every note. Shit. Thanks EJ for the Magic!
I love the fact that he can shred with the best of them but he doesn't waste entire songs with "watch how fast i can play." Wonderful soul and feel in his music, love it :)

I Remember the first time I heard this song, such beautiful tone, the actual music video was A huge WTF moment for me, I suggest you watch the trademark music video to understand what I mean.
the bass @ 1:26 is so pimp I'll bet Maresh carries that bass around, slaps a couple of ladies of the night, tells em "give me all your money", then goes back to playing
The bass player is Chris Maresh. You should check out the tune "Rocktopus" written by him. Great Bass player. Perfect for Eric Johnson's style of playing!
Then, you'll own a better version AND you will help support this truly unique artist.
>>>if you insist on downloading this YouTube version, you should google "YouTube Downloader" . There are MANY downloaders available. Look for one that will let you save in different formats { .avi, etc. }
@doubledge101 Kind of contradicting don´t you think. Posting the whole thing one youtube, and at the same time saying to other people they should buy the DVD. If YOU wanted to support Eric Johnson you should not have uploaded it in the first time.
@doubledge101 If Eric or his record company wanted that kind of exposure don´t you think they
would have uploaded it themselves. And although you haven´t uploaded the whole DVD, I think a lot of potential buyers settles with enjoying what´s on youtube instead of buying the DVD.
And how log have you worked for the R.I.A.A., Chicken Little? They all yelled "The sky is falling" when cassettes came out, then again when MP3s started getting traded, then again with YouTube, etc., etc., BUT, as all the financial charts will prove, revenues have increased due to additional EXPOSURE each time. Basically, most people will wind up buying what they like - they just need a shove in the right direction. Of course there will always be deadbeats & poor folk out there....
@doubledge101 Don´t get me wrong, I appreciate these uploads. I don´t have this DVD of eric, but I do own a couple of others. There is no real money in records anymore, it´s the ones who perform live that earn the bucks, and Eric is a keen live performer so I am sure he is doing well, but I hope u see my point though. One Eric fan to another. Peace.
@AlbinaLPfan > I use MediaConverter"dot"org, as it lets me choose what format I want to download. Still, I wish Eric Johnson was touring near my town!
@tastefulphrasing No need for feeling bad. :) Though one thing is for sure: I'm not very excited about this particular rendition Eric makes of his own Trademark either. It kind of lacks the attitude and drive of the studio recording and other renditions of his. He also seems to get lost amongst the harmonies every once in a while and doesn't quite "get there" in some passages.

@TomTrix99:
Ah, but it is NOT 'the whole thing", young patiwon learner. If you owned the DVD, know this you would.
As far as supporting Eric Johnson, well I do what I can. I've bought just about everything available.
The youtube uploads are all about EXPOSURE, which EJ was severely lacking (until GH3, that is).
One of my uploads is up over a half-million views. Here's what I would have to believe about that:
1. I have increased EJ's exposure
2. If EJ didn't want it up here, it wouldn't be here
