This was really helpful, thanks! I learned today how to use autopilot through GPS by setting a flight plan, but not how you showed and not how to use the radio stations. Thanks again!
Well there's something you might not have noticed, but on higher altitudes, you must be carefull with the Vertical Speed. If you set it too high and you are on high altitude, your plane will stall! On higher altitudes, you must set your VS low.
omg, i set Vertical speed to 1500f/min and climb from 4000f to 12000f and my autopilot started to put my plane under over bank angel and then it stalled, i lost 5000f within less than 30sec and crashed. any idea what i did wrong, btw my plane was bombardier crj-700
Im so confused, if you have autopilot on GPS, do you just ignore messages from ATC????? Plus, I really need help with my landings but dont know how to work the autopilot! Help someone
well i wanted to know a few things about the boeing 737.Basically, i am facing issues with controlling my aircraft speed in the air(when i am not on autopilot).I can still control it while ascending but when i wish to land it just increases drastically and even after switching the throttle to minimum, I can't control it..eg.if i am flying at 3000 feet at 250 knots and suppose i wish to bring it to 1000 feet...how should i decrease my speed say to 150 knots when not on auto pilot??
Note to other users, be very careful with the vertical speed when using AirBuses I have gone over 1500 f/min and I have stalled and flipped the plane almost everytime.
I was in a airbus A320 during landing once, and there is only one thing that I wonder about the A/P in FSX, and that's how to make the airplane adjusts it's descent rate automaticly when it has the throttles at idle, and wants to hold a certain speed. You have that possibility in Wilco's 737 pilot in command, and in real commercial airlines. Does this exist in the default 737/747 in FSX?
@Larsnero14 I think so, if you switched auto throttle on, it holds the speed, but never expect sth. from the AP which YOU cannot do or wouldn't do, so does it make any sens to hold the speed if engines are idle ?
I am a pro pilot/ATC in real life (To you guys that didnt think itwas possible to be both ATC and a pilot in real life: Guess one more time) so this was not so very inteesting to me. But very good tutorial for beginners.
thnk u for uploading this video, but my question is, why does my aircraft nose points upward by 10 degree at cruising altitude? it doesnt cruise at a stable position. Can u please help me on it...thnk u,

ty so much! i recently bought a 737 from wilco and i had trouble finding the GPS/NAV button and just found out it doesnt exist. i usually used to fly with default planes and i always use the GPS to fly around. Thanks to you now i can fly to any airport using the nav and course!!!
Hey. I dont understand how do you know the Course of the airport. How do you know its north from you? (to put 180). Also, how do you approuch the runway in a straight line. This way will probably take you just to the airport... How do I do to line up with the runway?
you all know that Rod Machado watched this!!!! He gave me the link to this i added him on facebook and he posted a link on my wall and told me to watch this one cause i had AP problems
I tried going 150Knt winds even though I'm not even pro :P, and guess what? I couldn't land so I tried 50Knts still can't land. Why is it like that when I flare It makes me go up. Plus if My throttle is 0% its like I'm 100% I'm going 400+Knts with a commercial airline!!! (0%Throttle) Even If I put my speed brakes :( and Geeeeeeaaaaaaarssssss!
Those speeds vary for depending on the aircraft and your payload/fuel, but you should be able to look them up. In a 737, you should be landing around 130 kts depending on the situation. I'm not sure about the takeoff speed, but 265kts is pretty excessive, haha :)
Simply press the Scroll Lock key to bring up the ATC window. There will be a list of options, each with a number. Simply press the number that corresponds to the option you would like. Note that you can't use the numbers on the number pad to do this (those are to move the view), you must use the numbers above the letters on your keyboard.
@ImAFlyingNoob you can find out the keys for all these functions by hitting the kneeboard chart button, which is shift+F10. Also, there's a help tutorial in the program itself.
i have a question and i dont know if this is supposed to do it or im doing something wrong:
when i use autopilot and the alt hold and everything, when ever my plane is cruising its nose is always pointing up and its flaring the whole entire flight from when i turn autopilot on. can someone help me with this?

does anyone knows how i can adjust the autopilot that he flies also curves, i mean the plane should fly alone, without me as its pilot? i know it's possible but i don't know how i can do that, pls apply!!!
Tnx, I finally landed with your instructions! Just one question: I tried that on several airports but sometimes ILS guided me away from the runway - the plane was aligned with the runway but in oposite direction... Does it make a difference if you are coming from different directions toward the airport? Example: going from north to Venice, Tessera (LIPZ) - when I hear morse code and turn NAV on the plane starts turning away from the airport (but it is aligned with runway heading).
Well the heading is to lock on to a certain heading of your choice and the course is necessary when using certain radio navigational aids such as VORs. I explain all of this in the video.
Thank you so much for this I played the transitioning to jets mission on fsx which is a short flight used without autopilot but was disappointed because even though I taught the HDG, altitude and vertical speed holds to myself, there was never any tutorial and had trouble with the approach hold function.
DN, I have a site and it has an autopilot tutorial. Do you mind if I put this video on my site for more visual people both parts 1 2 and ils landing tut. Thanks!
If i whould make a flight plan like from Klax to Ksea and whould have the gps active and as soon as i took off then turned on Nav hold whould it follow the line all the way to Seattle?
Ahh, how did I not see that? I guess I just assumed that turning on the Nav Hold would disable the Heading Hold. Thank you so much for pointing it out.
There is a difference between the ILs and Vor freq. isnt there?. Im confused

I'm not 100% sure, But, I guess you approach the run way on opposite side. example you should be approach on north and you approach on south.
auto pilot heading is on? if yes that is the problem it overrides the approach auto switch on.
again not 100% sure.

whats the heading and course button for and where do you figure out what the number is? thanks if you reply
maddog00005 2 years ago
Well the heading is to lock on to a certain heading of your choice and the course is necessary when using certain radio navigational aids such as VORs. I explain all of this in the video.

my istrumens look blurry how can i fix that
prsanjuan 3 years ago
Perhaps your resolution is set too low?
DNthenumber10 3 years ago
I do that too but only above 10,000ft. I could be wrong but really I've seen it everywhere that under 10,000ft you should stay under 250kts.
DNthenumber10 3 years ago
In real life, you could get clearance from ATC to go over 250kts under 10,000 if you needed to.

Since I'm not a real pilot I'm continuously learning things as well.

Thank you so much for this I played the transitioning to jets mission on fsx which is a short flight used without autopilot but was disappointed because even though I taught the HDG, altitude and vertical speed holds to myself, there was never any tutorial and had trouble with the approach hold function.

I am planning to assemble a new computer especially for FSX and I've selected the following hardware. Please advice!
1) EVGA nForce 780i SLI FTW motherboard
2) Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (2.83GHz; 1333Mhz)
3) CORSAIR 4GB(2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 memory
4) Two EVGA GeForce 9600GT 512MB for SLI and
5) Windows Vista Home Premium.

If i whould make a flight plan like from Klax to Ksea and whould have the gps active and as soon as i took off then turned on Nav hold whould it follow the line all the way to Seattle?
oskarsoftw 3 years ago
Yes, as long as the NAV-GPS switch was on GPS.
DNthenumber10 3 years ago
that "glitch" at 7:29 is because you had the heading bug still on.
Jacobdead 3 years ago
Ahh, how did I not see that? I guess I just assumed that turning on the Nav Hold would disable the Heading Hold. Thank you so much for pointing it out.
DNthenumber10 3 years ago
i do that all the time i accidentally leave the gps on during an ils landing and forget about it and im like wtf.
