I found shea butter to be extremely greasy and oily and it leaves my skin feeling all sticky. In addition to that, I have never seen any benefit from using it. I bought two pounds because everybody was raving about it. So, I have been using for months, like I said, it doesn't moustirize my skin (the next day it's very dry and flaky) even though it leaves it disgustingly greasy . Do u have to apply it on perfectly dry skin or you can put it after the shower when your skin is still a little damp?
Thank you for doing this. I really need something that will actually moisten my hair and scalp. The only thing I use on a regular is coconut oil and knot today leave-in, but my hair never retains moisture. I've tried other products in between like curls milk shake (my hair and scalp didn't like it) thanks
Does anyone know where I can find Shea butter (at a brick and mortar place); specifically in the San Fernando or San Gabriel Valley areas of greater Los Angeles?
shea butter is a nut from africa, ghana i believe, u get it yellow or white, my friend makes shea butter and she buys he actual shea nut for $150 - $00 depending on how big that nut is.
im nigerian too. however im just saying what i heard. they say that shea butter ranges from ivory to LIGHT yellow. i heard the darker yellow shea butter usually has other things added to it so it is not just pure shea butter.
The darker shea butter is pure...I'm from Ghana and they make a lot of it over there. The whiter shea butter has been refined so there's less of a smell to it. The yellow colord shea butter is 100% pure but it has a nutty/strong smell to it
ok, you can think what you think and i can think what i think. i googled it so im sticking with my opinion. plus various people are saying the same thing.
I do not care for the smell of shea butter. I have the real unrefined kind and it smells smokey but is very creamy and melts easily. I scent it with tangerine oil. I bought the refined kind before too and it is grainy and oily. Dont remember the smell.
soufwesthouston is right. the shea butter you got is not authentic. shea butter is not supposed to be orange or white. it is supposed to creamy, beige, very faint yellowish faint greenish color. the orange shea you have has palm oil in it and the smell is of palm oil too. i bought that shea butter and sent it back. it is not smooth, the texture is grainy and it doesnt melt completely on contact. real shea is smooth and melts to touch.
Hi curlycronicles can you tell me how i can protect me and my daughter hair, both of our hair is dry and brittle and need alot of moisture and shine and she is only 20months old. Can you tell me what other oils can i mix with the shea butter for her hair growth.
You are very fortun8 that you can buy a lb of shea butter for $15 in your area. I have been looking to buy some but have not found any more than 8-12oz in one container...and that's around $8-10. You made out! Good 4 u.
Have you tried your local flea market? I just bought a jar of the beige/white natural shea butter here at a flea market in st. louis for $5. it is about a 16oz size. hope that helps
I disagree. I mean, shea butter has a smell and its not that bad. I mean, its not bad. But its not a smell that I would prefer to have on my body... so I want it scented.
I know you gave an example of how shea smells like, but I don't know how "nutty" smells like. I have onw but it smells strong kida of mentalated my sister says it smells "nutty" but I don't like the smells at all.I don't know do I need to mix some oils with it or something???!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have answered my question about this shea butter. My sis purchased some for me some months back and it is whitish in color. I then purchased some off of ebay and it is yellow. I was just about to do the research to figure out if I have the authentic stuff. Turns out I do. I don't mind the smell. I mix it with my Pooka Pure and Simple shea butter and viola I'm done.
I want you to know your channel is extremely on point and very informative. Thanks for all you do to educate us.
Thanks for the info! I don't think I have authentic shea butter because mine smells REALLY bad. Maybe it's just that I don't like the smell, but it smells gross lol. I might get some more soon.
Are you absolutely sure the hair you trimmed was not of a different hair texture? I understand every now and again you have to trim your ends, but with our hair, there are so many different textures, but I'm sure you will find out soon once that hair grows in, whether it's a different texture or not.
Yellow shea butter is just as good as the baige one...however it uses a dye from the shea leaf which turns it yellow. i also find the yellow one more greasy so i stick with the baige. just passing on some info.
Wait, I think it's Madina. And now I have to find the site since I opened my mouth. While I am looking, I need to trim my natural hair and need some tips. I admit to not taking such good care of it for a while, but I've been so inspired by all the lovely youtube natural sisters that I am getting it together. I just got it cut quite a bit in October, but now I need to trim it asap. Trying to bantu knot out for a function on Friday.
I do not like the nutty smell of Shea Butter. I switched to Qhemet Biologics Alma and Olive Oil Heavy Cream. It is a Natual product and is design for very dry kinky hair. Check out their site!
I like using it because I can combine it with IC Fantasia gel and the Alma Cream does not crumble in the hair.
Shea Butter products sometimes leaves yellowish crumbles when you use it with gel.
I don't like Qhemet Biologics Amla heavy cream, it's too heavy for my hair. Glad it works for you though :)
I would never use shea butter with gel because most gels tend to have a high content of water and it doesn't mix well with the shea butter, at least not when you mix it yourself in the hands..so that's why you get that result.
Shea butter is the best moisturizer I have ever used on my hair and skin. I love the versatility. I usually purchase mine from sheabutterhut/dot/com and it's a great quality IMHO.
I just bought some from a small african market at my local mall for $5 a pound. I like the one I order online better. The one from the mall feels a little powdery (which is odd since it's usually creamy) but when I put it on my skin it feels the same as my regular.
Yay for trims! I've been on trimming sprees since I went natural and stopped for a while to gain some length. I then trimmed again this summer after a long time without one. My ends were much smoother and softer and my overall hair seemed much more springy and less frizzy. I just bought a pair of professional scissors yesterday (Revlon/Walgreens) because I had been using the wrong kind (my dad's nail scissors that I took a few years ago I think lol!)I'm going to do a winter trim, so excited!!
Re trims: I just chopped off 1/2" this weekend (first trim since April) and MAN has it made a difference. Trims are GOOD!
Re shea butter: I bought a pound back in August but have only used a little bit of it so far. Since I'm thinking about NOT protective-styling this Iowa winter, I may start experimenting with using shea butter straight. It's always been too heavy for my strands but if I'm careful it might work for me. And yeah...scented would be nice! ;)
Here Here Sister!!! or shall I say Sistah! I am with you when it comes to cutting the weird ends off! The hair may be shorter but, having healthy ends is much more important. It's crazy when you have a head full of thick hair and the ends are stringy. BTW, your hair is beautiful!
i have yet to buy shea butter yet i really need to tho but is it good for my hair if im transitioning? hope thts not a question u've already answered...i kno this is wayyyy off topic but u shud really look at urself in this video at 2:06 its too funny.
coincidentally I experimented w/ shea butter on my hair last night (while dry) to seal all my strands. I co washed it this mornin and I liked the results. I think I'll do that treatment again. next time I may add coconut oil.
do cut always cut the stringy hair

Buy free trade shea butter. Buy pure unrefined shea butter, not the white refined shea butter.

i like both, but favor the white as it's a little less greasy to me.
