i think she's great, once you start watching her cook you dont want her to stop, she talented beautiful and her every recipe is like a story from her life... plus its simple easy taaastyy food!!! love! love it
Very nice take on Tom Kha. I would however replace peas with chopped tomatoes, and instead of chili pepper, add the tablespoon of chili paste in soybean oil, and maybe a tablespoon of coconut sugar.
I don't care that you think that she's just a dum blonde trying to quote from books or just trying to look pretty (she was a model). I won't believe any of that until she comes up to me and proves she's like that! Until that point in time I just see a wondeful lady who loves to cook and enjoy food. Someone who does care about her looks, but also someone who likes literature and sees the value of a good book. And yes, I'm not a guy who has the hots for her. Girls like her too.
@bofman51 galangal is pretty rare outside southeast asia... u r lucky to even get those dried or pickled ones... personally i think ginger is an acceptable substitute... by the looks of the amount of chillies shes putting in or the lack of those fiery bird eyes chillies... i dont think this is a recipe meant for purists
Sophie Dahl is great! Very entertaining to look at, however i would leave adding the prawns to the very end-since if the cook to long they become rubbery. Will try this soup..yummmy.
it's true all those blonde stories~ LOL just listen to her! Boring.... nice looking but she is boring...she should of stayed in her other job...a model . just listen to her blabbing~ I guess she is making up for lost time. It's her babbing that is annoying!
If you don't like her don't watch and shut up. I love her. She is lovely to look at and cooks lovely food. She is different from Nigella and from Delia, she is not a Michelin starred chef and not trying to be. Sophie, if things don't work out in your marriage, will you marry me?
no one said you have to come watch her. and just because she's a friendly english person with a cooking show, doesnt mean shes ripping off nigella. i love nigella, but sophie's totally different. stop whining because you dont like a cooking show.
will you all just shut up? they don't make this for you, they make this for people who like it, and there are those of us who do. there are always going to be people who dislike something, and in this case that happens to be all of you. i live in thailand. i am aware that her this isn't the most accurate depiction of thai food, but most westernized thai food isnt. its adapted to tastes and whats available.
Look, about the mortar and pestle, it is seriously much easier to use a food processor. Also, I think things taste better with olive oil. The recipes don't need to be 100% traditional because who knows what traditional means anymore. Making a dish your own is what makes cooks, cooks. The real problem with her is that she is SO BORING. I am zzzzing by the time she gets to the prawns doing the can can. And soba noodles? That's ONE thing I can't get behind. Use rice noodles, woman.
@pretentiouseating stone ground vs machine gives a different texture... quite important if u r a foodie who eats lotsa raw pulverized stuff... like salsa, sambal etc.... as for olive oil i guess its fine for most cooking except extra virgin which personally gives a weird taste to many asian recipes... and yea soba noodles bit is a little weird... but im fine with pasta if she chooses to use it :P
Do you think she really can cook??? Or has she been taught these basic recipes? Hmmm I like the show but there is something about her that annoys me, probs the way she pretends to eat all this food and still looks like that.
i like the recipe and i really wanted to like this series, but seriously shes so BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!! over use of adjectives does NOT make you a tv cook/chef LONG LIVE DELIA!!!!!!!!
I live in Thailand my mother in law would just look at you as if you'd had a lobotomy if she saw you using a blender instead of a wooden pestle & mortar, & you're supposed to use palm oil not olive oh and Dtom means soup so I'd edit the caption. & its dtom Kaa (ต้มข่า) not tom ka (ทมคะ)as she said in the video. Before you butcher the Cuisine & Language learn how its prepared and pronounced properly
Absolutely hideous dress. Quite prosaic presentation.

I adore the way she talks. It would be disappointing if Roald Dahl's granddaughter spoke in any other way :)

That may be a lovely soup but it aint Tom Kha. Kha is galangal, not ginger and it would taste nothing like tom kha using ginger.

she is so annoying and badly informed - what is she talking about?
ginger is NEVER used in thai cooking-galangal is.
olive oil? NEVER.
blender? NEVER.
sugar snap peas-NEVER.
why cant she just be content with being married to a midget and stop this nonsense.
and as for the frock - SPEECHLESS.
what a load of crap.

ditto!
She totally milks it with the figurative and descriptive language and the annecdotes...
definitely related to Rohl Dahl...
but in my opinion, her vocabulary is a touch of salt too much!
