Dave Brown was nutso. He also was the one who crosschecked Sandstrom in the head too huh? What kind of "Code" is that? He never even dropped the mits when he had a chance. Sometimes he just went over the line.
The attempt at intimidation is so blatant it's disgusting. The Rangers might have been the only team in the league who would not retaliate after something like this. I'm a Rangers fan and glad they won the series and I guess their not retaliating when the Flyers kept running at them might have kept them out of the box, but as a fan watching this you can't help but be a little ashamed that nobody went over to Brown to simply clock him. By the way Philly sports fans are the worst in the country.
Intimidation is a very big part of playoff hockey. I agree somebody definitely should have evened up for the Brown mauling on the Beezer. Perhaps Isles fans are worse though - Philly fans show up no matter how bad they are doing - Isles fans only show up when they have a CUP. It's amazing 4 Cups and still in the same building - Spectrum's last season this year - bye bye Phantoms - too bad the Isles do not have better community support. NYR never have that problem - location!!!
Well as far as fan support the Islanders may be the worst franchise in the league. Philly fans are loyal. I meant bad in that they are just brutal towards their home teams. Very negative.
Hey rockyfan2, you got the Rangers @ Flyers game off of WWOR-TV, right? I was hoping to find footage from this classic era, and here it is. I was bummed I could never watch the Rangers home games on MSG because I didn't have cable at the time. GodDAMN I can't believe that run Brown did at Vanbiesbrouck! Thx for uploading this, man! 5/5
To a certain degree that was part of the Rangers problem at the time. Talent was another problem. I saw every game of this series and the Rangers played the series of their lives to win it. They won Games 1 and 5 in Philly by 6-2 and 5-2 and Game 3 in New York 5-2. Flyers had 110 points that year. Rangers had 78. What's more the Rangers were a bunch of vaginas.
Yup, that's why you had to love little George McPhee fightin & scrathing for everything on this team. His fight w Tocchett will always be a great memory for me in this series.
After seeing that replay I agree with you. But I guess they did not want any of their better players risking injuries or suspensions. After all if Brown were suspended that does not weaken Philly. The Rangers had very few tough guys on that team. And the guys that were "tough" were no comparison to who the Flyers had. The Rangers had Melnyk, McPhee, Greshner, Paiment. I can't think of anyone else. Well at least we won the series.

That's why the Rangers weren't true cup contenders at that time.
