im so proud of her. i have had trich for a year and a bit now. it is hard to deal with for everyone... family, friends and so on. im determined to stop but it is so hard. she is a very very brave woman.
Nothing wrong with you? Dear, you're pulling your hair out by the handfuls, and you are crying over it. I think that when it creates stress it IS wrong. u.u
Shaving my head worked for me. I have been pull free for 4 months now. At first it was hard but im not feeling the urge to pull anymore. Im so happy and it was one of the best choices i could have done.
..It feeels sooo goood to pull out "that one hair" , almost orgasmic sometimes when U get it out. Someone that doesn't have trich will never understand. I used to pull out alll my eyelashes & eyebrows, I looked like a fucking freak, ashamed to go out & picked on as a teenager. I was hypnotized twice when I was 15 & 16, It helped me stop for good. although I pick at them occasionally 15 years later. I gained control over my brain. For all those that are suffering & cant stop, try hypnotherapy!
damnit i pulled my eyebrows throughout watching this whole video. It does feel better to pull the hair. when i pull my eyebrows it feels good to see those hairs on my finger buut after im worried that i have gaps in my eyebrows.
This may sound crazy, but I think a good solution is straight-Pomodoro all day. You HAVE TO plan your day, so that you don't have idle time. It is HARD to quit, but it is so worth it, I promise.
Oh my god i feel your pain mandi! I'm sitting here crying at this. I'm a 23 year old female and have being living with this for 14 years. So happy you finally have being able to stop. What was it that did it for you? you look beautiful by the way! :-)
That therapist needs to understand that "a new start" is something every trichy goes through.. Most the time it doesn't work, but that new start really does help us see how fast our hair is growing back, it HELPS.. But it isn't the more effective strategy.
You can tell how little the professionals know about trich from this. What's wrong with shaving your head in a situation like this? He's all about changing your habits to try and stop pulling, like where Mandi sleeps; shaving hair means that it'll be less accessible to actually pull out. No one knows why we do it. Even if we do accept it and try to counter it, we'll just be living our lives like alcoholics - only instead of avoiding alcohol, the hair will always be right there taunting us.
@Samphie7 yeah your so right bur idk I shaved my head about a year ago and it really didn't help I still pulled when growth came in after it was a few inches and long enough to pull and now I have alot of parts in my hair that are shorter and I'm considering shaving it all off again but Idk I it's really worth it or not............
Mandi you are beautiful...good job. Hope you won this battle! I pray someday i can be normal! To all the people who have made these videos about Trich, thank you...I'm not alone! Proud of you, to be able to make a video and show everyone you have this problem. I cant show my face, but i can confess.. I pray for all of us a cure! God help each and everyone of us! :)
Mandi you remind me of me, but i haven't had guts to shave my head. My husband doesnt even see me without makeup ever! I put makeup on to go to bed, and think a lot about if I die, i dont want anyone to see me.The mortition wouldn't do my makeup right! i feel like a freak, i go weeks without pulling, then as soon as i get stressed or upset, i catch myself pulling! i never get urg, it just happens without knowing it! My kids have tried to help me-telling me mom stop! if they see me! i get mad!
I am 41,female, and i've been pulling since i was 8yrs. old, been to many Dr's, & been on every medicine out there! Nothing helps! I hide behind makeup, and wear false eyelashes, paint on my eyebrows, and wear hair extentions. I have found the extentions do help me not pull, and i've been wearing acrylic nails, and they also have helped. But nothing has ever cured me totally! To look at me, you would never know i have this secret! I hate looking in the mirror everyday, so any help or thoughts
Yes, I do have Trichotillomania. I had it since my GrandMa pasted away Two Days after my 14th B'Day, & it Sucks Big Time. This is a Secret I had for the Past 19 Years. I had to come out about this. This is my Story. Thank You for Reading this. From Ray "J"
You are so brave. Thank you for sharing your story. My daughter has trich. She is 12 and started pulling when she was 10. It's been a long process but she is in CBT as well as HRT. She has made progress but does relapse. Its been hard for me but its harder on her. I just have to remind myself that if she could stop she would and be as supportive and loving as I can. She's in middle school so it's hard and I'm so afraid for her. She explains it the same way you do. I hope the best for you!
I got a long sleeve shirt that I sewed the sleeves shut that I wear when I'm in my pulling spots. My hands still go up to my head, but I can't pull with the sleeves shut.
mandi you can do it you look great with that short hair

@atwgirl13 Not trich, but I used to pull my hair a lot when I had emotional meltdowns. Also, to reuse something from your profile:

Exposure therapy and shaving her head, but it can take a bit of one-on-one therapy.
