If Garry's Mod was working fine before having Steam up, do this:

1. Exist steam out of the tray

2. Open up Garry's Mod folder which is located in Valve, Program Files

3. Run Launch Garry's Mod.bat

3. Play, now you can also run the shortcut again (JUST DON'T RUN STEAM)

1: Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE

2: Click on "Start Task Manager"

3: Highlight "Steam.exe" and click on "End Process"

4: Run GMod and enjoy playing!
