I was expecting more from the Bangles, they are a great band and have done great covers in the past; this version is even more stripped down than EC's version, and his is pretty bare bones. For what it is though I think it pretty great and I'm glad that they did this album.
**Also is that a mistype or did they alter they name, I thought the original was called "Tear off your own head". Or am I mistaken?**
See, I didn't think it was strange at all when I realised this was a cover because at their peak in the 80's they weren't by any means strangers to recording other peoples material. One of their biggest international hits (Hazy shade of winter) was an old Simon/Garfunk classic. Manic Monday, Walk like an Egyptian and If she knew what she wants (though they made them hits) were the work of other folk even though they had quality material of their own to put out at the same time.
The first verse was as same as the first? What the fuck does that mean?
Okay, yeah: The title track of the album is an Elvis Costello song from his album When I was Cruel(2002) but it's a decent cover and a decent album.
I think at this point the bangles aren't worried about huge success or huge production, I think this is them making music for the sake of being a band, and I like it a lot.
I still think it's weird that their title track is a cover song though.
It was a bloody travesty this album wasn't a glorious come back for the girls. I blame the record companies choice of single release. They should've pushed the title track as the first single release as it was probably the most catchy and uptempo on the entire album to lure people in then slowed things down with one of the Hoffs ballads for the 2nd single (something that you said or I will take care of you). Up the tempo again with Steele's song for a good son and lost a sea for the 4th release.
Great song(:

When this album was released the first verse was the same as the first.
They sang someone else's (Elvis Costello) music. They were of the
map in the 90s and in a new century no one cared.
