I have been to a number of their concerts since their early days of international performances when they played in little cliubs in London and they have always refused to play la Bamba despite requests from the crowd. I think it is because they did not want to be seen as a one trick pony but the reality is that this song has stuck to them. It is true that the Valens song did not have a proper ending until los Lobos recorded it.
