  • It's a shame, EVERY period home version of Donkey Kong cut the Cement Plant level! Even on the NES!

  • great game, crappy voice it makes me zzzzzzzZZZZZ

  • "pretend you're climbing down"

    The teachings of how-to-trick-a-bot

  • wheres the pie factory?

  • What's with these retro sound effects. I thought it was an alien invasion.

  • LMAO, "Another high resolution game machine." "Donkey Kong, It's got everything, hammers, prizes, fireballs, you name it!"

  • LMAO, "Another high resolution game machine."

  • 6 donkey kong's watched this video

  • I played the shit out of DK

  • Press back on the D pad and jump at the same time, and you can quick jump flick over the barrels. Er, at least you can on Donkey Kong '94

  • 2.08 "Fake him out!" Dude, ya gotta fake that fireball out, that's the key

  • @sygo7g They were as high definition as 1989 raster style boxy tv allowed.

  • @sygo7g Hah yeah they advertised "Blast Processing" which didn't even exist! XD

  • hah

  • Who's the guy hosting and narrating this?

  • hight resulution game machine ?? 0:04 (iknow iknow that for this age this was hd )

  • umm .. what's with the barrel rolling uphill @ 1:00 at the bottom of the screen ? 0_o

  • @wingnut4427 omg I just notice that thanks ha ha, but I never seen that glitch on my colecovision but knowing me I would not notice anyways lol

  • When I played this on the NES there were some springs on the 3rd level that jump around on the level....

  • is this console worth any money now??

  • I could never figure out why the first level was backwards on the colecovision version.

  • i never got why in this version the elevator board never had the spring

    /

    ?

  • On the first level, go to the first ladder, go up one step, then wiggle the control up and down a bunch of times. Mario falls into the next level, without being killed and getting full points! It's a weird glitch . There is a similar one for level 2 but I forget where it is.

  • one thing they didn't point out that worked on mine: start climbing a ladder, then pause, then start again and he climbs at double speed.

  • Didn't Magnavox make a game system around this same time? and was the first one with a digital voice ?

  • interesting i have this on nes game!

  • Good Version but Atari 7800 one is better. Of course nothing beats the arcade if you can find that.

  • Coleco vsions EXPANSION MODULE! LAWSUITS UP THE ASS!

  • lolz AVGN :p

  • Protip:ENOUGH WITH THE F***IN' PROTIPS!

  • who is the host??

  • I think he's Ken Unston.

  • PROTIP 2 + 2=4

  • PRO TIP:

dont play this cilico garbage! play the original!

  • PROTIP: Coleco is spelled C-O-L-E-C-O.

    you are an ass.

    That is spelled A-S-S

  • Reokos Tip: this isin't grade school smart ass. since when the fuck do people comment about spelling!?

  • When people laugh at your stupidity. That's when

  • PROTIP: to defeat the Donkey Kong, climb the ladders and go to the top of the board.

  • @amadeusyaoi Don't forget dodge the barrels.

  • @Luigi84289 - if they're filled with whiskey, nobody's dodging

  • Colecovision is the best of the 2nd generation consoles because it can play atari 2600 games with the ad-on. It's only really bad problem is the crappy controllers but you can swap them out for better ones so it doesn't matter.

  • i type the same letters and it says

The response to the letters on the image was not correct, please try again.

and it let me post comments!!!

  • Same here OMJ!!!!! lol jk but still it lets me post comments when i type it wrong.

  • I FOUND A GLITCH ON YOUTUBE

video went soooo fast and it was loading

    at the same time!!!!!!

  • It's not a faithful version, it does not have the how high can you get screen and has no pie factory and repeats the same order of 3 boards over and over again.

The Atari 400 version was more faithful and so was the IBM PC Version.

Now the Adam version was almost and exact copy of the real arcade Donkey Kong.

  • 1:01 WTF!!!!!???????

  • i noticed that too, one of the barrels dropped to the lower level without a ladder involved.

  • I remember a glitch from this level that is currently shown which was allowing you to get to the next level: You see the very first ladder which is broken? You had to climb in it until it wasn't possible to climb any further, get down off the ladder, go one step backwards and jump to the right and then you we're reaching the next level!

  • "This has everything. Hammers, fireballs, ladders, you name it."

Yeah, right, so where are the springs? Lying bastard.

  • At 1:01, one of the barrels is moving in the wrong direction on the bottom level! Also, the next barrel gets stuck on the bottom right corner of the screen for a few seconds. Weird glitches!

  • is this like the g4 of the '80s

  • Whats that thing on top???

i kno its the girl but it looks nothing like a person...

  • high resoulution?????

reminds me of the claim on the genesis model 1

    "high definition graphics and sound"

  • I would say for its time, yes it's high resolution.

  • ColecoVision got f***ed for this

  • why is donkey kong on the wrong side of the first stage?

  • feh the elevater level is alot harder with those hopping things

  • nice

  • As much as I loved my ColecoVision...

    and my NES...

    Commodore WAS the King!

There are people who to this day

SURF the internet using a C64

If that's not enough I've got two words for you...SPACE TAXI

  • True, but the C64's version of Donkey Kong wasn't as good. For $200, I would rather have bought the Colecovision than the C64 for $600.

  • Pressing up twice quickly on a ladder caused you to climb up much more quickly.

..And the first level had a hack, where you could climp up the half broken ladder, climb back down, nudge to the left, then hop right. You would sink through the floor and land on the top level!

  • Or you might be on top of DK's girder within 15 seconds. On the 16K ROM version you would go straight to the rivets board doing this glitch, but on the 24K ROM version you will end up on the top girder. However this can be dangerous on the 24K version as Mario may be hit by a barrel thrown by DK.

  • I had no idea there were this many variations to that hack. I never found out if was an intentional easter egg or a programmign error.

  • This so makes me want to get out my old Coleco Vision and play Donkey Kong again!

  • So there were 4 levels for DK? I can't remember which one is missing from either this or the NES version... I think they each had a different one though, didn't they? I do remember the Atari 2600 version only had 2.

  • The pie factory level was missing from the NES and ColecoVision versions. It was available on the Atari 800 and Coleco Adam computer versions.

  • Amazing how games overtime can still retain their emotional value. :)

  • This is CLASSIC...it is so bad...Love it

  • Where can you find the whole video and buy it?

  • Explain. It looks fine to me.

  • Just because it isnt the same as the original doesn't mean its bad.

  • i love the look that guy gives you right after he says "Computer Keyboard"... lol

  • classic

  • Wow times have changed. lol.

  • Once you're on the ape's ramp, it's not much trouble saving your sweetheart.

  • so.

  • I was quoting the guy in the video.

  • Comment removed

  • Uh...this ISN'T a "freaking video about the nes."

    It's about Colecovision, dummy.

  • By the way, the reason you have never heard of any the games I mentioned on the C64 is most likely because you were still in diapers back then.

  • Comment removed

  • The SID chip on the C64 could play music and entire songs, complete with speech. I could play Van Halen's "Jump" on my C64 and it sounded no differen than the radio. The NES couldn't do squat. The music on all of its games sounded simple and hokey, and the SAME! The games were no different: they all looked the same. Not to mention that NES games were kiddie platforms, unlike C64 games that had gore, sex and nudity.

    C64 > NES

  • Shows what little you know.

The Commodore 64 had the legendary SID chip. It could play entire songs, complete with perfect speech and octaves that the NES couldn't.

The kiddie NES system pales in comparison.

Like I said, the NES system was for kids. The C64 had better sound, graphics, and was for adults.

    C64>NES

  • You sound like when 8th grade XBox fanboys talk about how XBox games are better "CAUS IT HAZ MORE GRPHICS CHIPS".

Also, where the hell is the pie factory level or flying springs in this version of Donkey Kong?

  • Uh....I already stated the facts about the C64. If you don't understand what a SID chip is, for example, then that is YOUR problem, not mine.

As for your 2nd question, the Colecovision version didn't contain the pie factory level or the springs.

  • But the Coleco Adam version did have that level included, as well as numerous other extras related to the arcade version.

  • high resolution my arse hahaha they have tutorials for these games lol

  • Your crappy little kiddie system couldn't even talk! LOL......

    C64 > NES

    By a loooooooong shot!

  • The COlecovision came out before the NES...

  • "The COlecovision came out before the NES... "

    Uh.....and your point?

  • It wasn't as advanced as the NES. The way you are compairing them is like compairing the N64 to the Wii.

  • "It wasn't as advanced as the NES. The way you are compairing them is like compairing the N64 to the Wii. "

Ummm....no one was comparing the Colecovision to the NES. So again I do not know what you are talking about.

  • The NES did in fact talk. Have you played Blades Of Steel?

  • How about we just say that both consoles are cool and call it a truce?

  • "How about we just say that both consoles are cool and call it a truce?"

If you like kiddie games, then yes, the NES is for you. I never argued against that.

  • Then if you like mature games, the Commadore64is for you =)

  • Agreed! If you like games that had blood, violence, sex, nudity, and SUPERIOR sound / music, then the C64 was for you, hands down!

  • How about we stop quoteiong everybody, eh eminboztepe?

  • "How about we stop quoteiong everybody, eh eminboztepe?"

    Uh....if I didn't then you wouldn't know who I was responding to.

  • Hi resolution game machine!!!

  • my friend has a colecovison.

  • Its Bob Dylan

  • in the elevator board where are the springs?

  • are people so retarded they need help with this game? lul

  • this guy climbs laders mad slow

  • 5200 owns CV

  • > 5200 owns CV

Colecovision competed against the Atari 2600 and soundly crushed it. The 5200 was DOA when it was released due to it's expense.

  • No one mentioned the 2600.

    And still, 5200 owns CV.

  • > No one mentioned the 2600.

I did. That was Coleco's competitor. The 5200 came out after the Colecovision.

    > And still, 5200 owns CV.

I wouldn't know, I had a C=64 and that crushed everything until Nintendo came out.

  • > I did. That was Coleco's competitor. The 5200 came out after the Colecovision.

The 5200 came out to compete with Colecovision since the 2600 was outdated. in the computer world, 5 years is an eternity!

    >I wouldn't know, I had a C=64 and that crushed everything until Nintendo came out.

Me too! It was a computer that was waaaaaaaaay ahead of its time.

  • ugh the main problem with the 5200 was the piece of shit fucking controler and the CV beat the 5200 that way.besides nintendo ruled that era

  • "besides nintendo ruled that era"

Ummm....no, it didn't. Nintendo is from a DIFFERENT era. The 5200 came much earlier, especially in computer years.

I had a Commodore 64 and it blew away everything, including Nintendo. While little kids were content with G-rated Nintendo games like Mario Brothers, I was playing superior Commodore games like "Beyond the Forbidden Forest" and "The Kennedy Approach"

  • Fan Boys need not apply

  • "Fan Boys need not apply"

    Inside joke?

  • Commodore does not beat Nintendo you idiot! The NES did way better then the commodore in sales! Plus NES was making better games and doing more then just 64 or 128k games. Also beyond Forbiden Forrest and The Kennedy Approach were two shitty games. You sound deprived! The Marios and Zeldas are way better then anything on Commodore!

  • "Commodore does not beat Nintendo you idiot!"

Yes it did, moron. The Commodore 64 sold twice as many computers as Apple and IBM combined. The Nintendo was a shitty 8-bit kiddie system with crappy kiddie games that all looked and sounded the same. The Commodore had superior sound, music, and graphics with violence and nudity.

Now go back to your comic books.

  • "Marios and Zeldas are way better then anything on Commodore!"

LOL...those are kiddie games, which are crap compared to Kennedy Approach and Forbidden Forest, which are ADULT games with superior graphics and sound (with blood and nudity).

LOL, you little kids crack me up!

    Commodore > NES

LOL, you little kids crack me up!

    Commodore > NES

  • Kennedy Approach and Forbidden Forest had terrible graphics! The spiders look like fucking balls of black hair and Demogorgon did not look anything like he did in any D&D books. Why is Nintendo a kiddy system? I like nintendo and I am pretty much positive I can stomp a mud hole in your ass! Having blood and nudity does not make a great game. Also I am 33 years old I am not a kiddie! Dont assume that anybody who is old enough to live during the time of the commodore is going to agree with you!

  • The NES was a kiddie console!!!! It was a crappy 8-bit system!!! It couldn't even talk!!! The Commodore 64 had superior graphics, the legendary SID sound chip, and ADULT games!!!

All of the NES games LOOKED AND SOUNDED THE SAME.

Legend Zelda and Mario Brothers sucked....it was a dumb, boring 8-bit side scrolling game with cutesy kiddie music and action.

BTW, the DemoGorgon was NOT based on the D&D books. Don't make comments on things you don't know anything about.

  • You are the only ass spelunking jack ass who thinks that mario and Zelda are not great games. Oh and the first time I heard of Demogorgon was from a dungeons and dragons monster manual by Gary GYgax somewhere in the early 70s. Most early fantasy computer games were basing alot of there monsters from this book. So NO! Demogorgon did not look right nor were the graphics any good! Who gives a shit if the NES talked or what! Your point? Is the commodore still here? NOPE! Nintendo is!

  • Nope! Only kiddies like yourself like kiddie NES games over the C64. It's not my fault that your parents were too poor to afford a computer. And again, the Demogorgon was NOT based on the D&D books...so your argument is NOT valid.

The Commodore 64 was the best selling computer of its time, and no amount of your whining will change that!

Now go back and play your crappy NES games, all which look the same!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Oh, you make me laugh. HAHAHA!!! Do you know exactly HOW many people love the NES? Sorry dude, you're beat.

  • HAHAHAHAHA.....just because little kids love the NES, doesn't make it better!

The C64 was a COMPUTER, the NES was a kiddie game system. Apples to oranges.

    You are beat, indeed!

  • I never liked the Nintendo. The C64 had a better music/sound chip, better games, and more variety. All of the Nintendo games looked the same, sounded the same, and were designed for little kids. The C64 games had blood, nudity, required you to think, etc....designed more for young adults.

  • > All of the Nintendo games looked the same,

    > sounded the same,

THIS is very true. The C=64 had the hugest variety of games. Imagine Zork on it, or Hacker, or Impossible Mission, or Jumpman, or Karateka, or Temple Apshai, etc.

The NES did repeat the look quite a lot.

C=64 didn't target a demographic like the NES did.

  • You might wanna watch AVGN's review on the 5200 before you make that call.

  • This version looks easy...

  • lol

  • HIGH RES FTW!!!

  • Had both and the 5200 pwned.

  • Yes, the 5200 was much better. Both good in their own way though....both had lousy controllers ironically.

  • CV owns 5200

  • i had a coleco version called super donkey kong that had all 4 levels and hi score savong the n64 version on dk64 had all 4 levels and the c64 version had all 4 lvls also

  • It was better than Atari but the 4th level is

still missing.I got lucky that I guy wanted to

trade his NES for my ColecoVision but I kinda

wish I still had one. Also the Sega Genesis Pad

will work on games that don't need the Keypad.

  • I remember my parents owning the ColecoVision. Then they bought the Nintendo. Wow times has change.

  • this wuz the best home version of donkey kong back then u should see the 2600 version

  • Man, Coleco Vision sucks.

The Coleco Vision had 3 of the 4 levels? Just 3?

The lame ass programmers could not have included all 4 levels??? How hard would that have been?

That just tells you how lame and limited the Coleco Vision system was! All the games on these home systems sucked in those days!

With the possible exception of the Pitfall game for the Atari 2600.

  • That's because the CV had only up to 32k of cartridge ROM. This game used either a 16k or 24k ROM chip.

  • Wooooooooow. Colecovision! Is this 1983 or what!!!!!!!!! Flashback!!!

  • Harpo speaks!

  • LOL! I think there is a raincoat and a bike horn hanging in the background! I wondered what happend to him!

  • Where's a Demons To Diamonds video, that game was played alot at my house during my childhood.

  • Colecovision RULES!!!!

  • LEVELS

  • ENOUGH POWER TO RECREATE ALL THE

  • DONKEY KONG PORT THAT ALSO DIDNT HAVE

  • NINTENDOS ENTERTAINMENTSYSTEM

  • BEST DONKEY KONG PORT NEXT TO

  • COLECOVISION DONKEY KONG PORT WAS THE

  • this version is completely diffrent than the original arcade one

  • Yeah, as it is missing the Pie Factory board as well as the Jacks from the Elevators board.

However, the ADAM Super Game version has all of these elements added back in.

  • i played the original on the N64 ddonkey kong game it was ok.

  • nintendo > CV

  • I played this game heavily on my CV. As far as I'm concerned, the CV was the greatest console ever. Better than my PS3 and my Xbox 360 or anything else.

  • pretty nice

  • atari version was better

  • I love how the Colecovision is bigger than the guy's tv in the beginning!

  • i enjoy the arcade game more.

  • hi rez lol

  • This was the first home game ever that actually looked or at least closely resembled it's Arcade counterpart. I still remember seeing the TV ad with my friends. We were blown away. We were used to Atari and Intellivision making horrible Arcade ports. But then we saw this. It was a WOW moment!

  • I remember ordering one by mail when they first came out and the wait was worth it. At that time, it was damn close to the arcade. Games were spendy though - Zaxxon was $70.

  • It's got everything! You name it!

  • My older had that. Once we got Nintendo, we never played Coleco again!!

  • thank god nintendo kicked atari's crotch deep and thoroughly.

are you feeling the pain , atari? good...

  • lol high resloltuion

  • "We should point out this great shortcut" yea why not do that FIRST?

  • loved it

  • This was my first game. Good times!

  • Nothing like a Donkey Kong walkthrough...

  • Hey! I still have mine with like 10 games. But I just need a new power supply :( Zaxxon... Montezuma's revenge... that was cool :')

  • This guy sucks at this game. In the ColecoVision version you can push up twice and go up the ladders extremely fast.

  • Hey, the video is old and he's not making a "speed run"

  • The Cabbage Patch kid game kicked ass. I wish someone had video of that!
