Question I thought of on the way home, as I live near a reservoir for town water. If I have to gather water in a winter situation, am I better off just harvesting ice on the top of the lake and melting that down or should I get water from underneath, or is there any difference?

@aikenforjeff--good question AFJ. I would go for the water underneath, because it's gotta be in it's liquid form to purify...of course if you're ice is several inches thick and the water is inaccessible, it may be out of the question, but you should be good at least near the edges...

@formatC2--the "river dip with a condom" video was back in the San Diego days during the summer, so not cold at all (although I started growing extra fingers and toes and glowed in the dark after I came out haha).
