@MuscleCut I wouldn't say movies have gotten any worse over time, but all the crappy ones are becoming more popular and are making the most money. Actually, I just recently saw a great movie called Drive which had a vibe similar to movies like Bullit and Scarface. I also really loved The Dark Knight, The Social Network, Sideways, Pan's Labyrinth, Up in the Air, There Will Be Blood, and Brokeback Mountain. I think you've just gotta look in the right places.

I'm at that age and I reakon some of my opinions should be acknoledged. I love all De Niro movies, I've tried watching as many as I can because he is well, one of the best actors of this generation. I loved him in goodfellas, Casino, The Godfather part II, Mean streets, the king of comedy, Cape fear, the taxi driver and the list goes on. Almost EVERY film De Niro did with Scorsese was a masterpiece and De Niro gave some of his best and most brilliant performances. But Scorsese and DiCaprio?! Are you serious? The only great film was "The Departed" and the closet DiCaprio came to being called great was in "The Aviator." But still, he's shit compare to Bobby. The fact that people call DiCaprio 'badass' and 'one of the greatest actors ever' is ridiculous. James Woods is way better than over the top DiCaprio.

Generally speaking I agree with kieranmatiz, but regarding LaMotta's redemption, I have to agree with co-screenwriter Paul Schrader who noted that Lamotta never was redeemed (and also that the tacked on quotation was Scorsese's acknowledgement of this and an awkward attempt to rectify it. There is no redemption. For the people who disagree with that, just curious, but what I and Paul Schrader missing?
The anti-Rocky. This isn't a film about courage, heroism and the underdog. It's about redemption, male pride and jealousy. It's a brutal character study of somebody that alienates and distances himself from everybody he has ever loved. A real story of a self-destructive figure and his final redemption. For me personally it's a modern Othello, cinema at its finest.
I cannot believe this lost the Oscar for directing and best picture to Ordinary People? Fair enough, at a stretch, maybe best picture because I know the Academy are biased towards popularity rather than greatness but for directing? Raging Bull is so much better directed than Ordinary people, I hate the Academy.
It amazes me that there exist people who don't like this movie. Raging Bull is a masterpiece and one of the greatest achievements in cinema of all time.

Ok, Scorsese's films are one of a kind, no doubt. But don't get stupid and go degrading the Rocky movies. The Rocky series is one of the greatest achievements in American film and Sylvester Stallone did an incredible job in them. The way he spoke was part of his character.
This is one of the greatest movies of all time in my opinion along with 3 of the Godfather movies,Scarface,Taxi Driver,Rocky series, Rambo Series, Goodfellas and all of the other movies from the early 70's through the late 90s but the movies we have now in the 2000's and 2010's are so horrible and annoying. we could of have more great movies but the annoying CGIs and other crap they use just killed it.

I'm at that age and I reakon some of my opinions should be acknoledged. I love all De Niro movies, I've tried watching as many as I can because he is well, one of the best actors of this generation. I loved him in goodfellas, Casino, The Godfather part II, Mean streets, the king of comedy, Cape fear, the taxi driver and the list goes on. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions including @tfman31Dude. I honestly love good cinema not a rom com. But everyone should respect others opinions.

If someone told me they think terminal cancer patients should be slaughtered and made into dogfood, I don't have to respect their opinion. You might argue when it comes to judging film versus morals that it's different. But I don't think every art form is subjective.

The Film Was ranked 4th in Afi's Tenth anniversary Behing Citizen Kane (#1) The Godfather (#2) and Casablanca (#3). The film in my opinion is not a masterpiece. The film moves very slowly and slow. Second, The whole thing is depressing meaning that there is hardly any suspense. There is really great acting though with Robert De Niro winning an oscar as Jake Lamotta sometimes referred to as the Raging Bull. They call It The Raging Bull cause Jake Lamotta is sometimes referred to as The Raging Bul

Almost EVERY film De Niro did with Scorsese was a masterpiece and De Niro gave some of his best and most brilliant performances. But Scorsese and DiCaprio?! Are you serious? The only great film was "The Departed" and the closet DiCaprio came to being called great was in "The Aviator." But still, he's shit compare to Bobby. The fact that people call DiCaprio 'badass' and 'one of the greatest actors ever' is ridiculous. James Woods is way better than over the top DiCaprio.

Generally speaking I agree with kieranmatiz, but regarding LaMotta's redemption, I have to agree with co-screenwriter Paul Schrader who noted that Lamotta never was redeemed (and also that the tacked on quotation was Scorsese's acknowledgement of this and an awkward attempt to rectify it. There is no redemption. For the people who disagree with that, just curious, but what I and Paul Schrader missing?

The anti-Rocky. This isn't a film about courage, heroism and the underdog. It's about redemption, male pride and jealousy. It's a brutal character study of somebody that alienates and distances himself from everybody he has ever loved. A real story of a self-destructive figure and his final redemption. For me personally it's a modern Othello, cinema at its finest.

I cannot believe this lost the Oscar for directing and best picture to Ordinary People? Fair enough, at a stretch, maybe best picture because I know the Academy are biased towards popularity rather than greatness but for directing? Raging Bull is so much better directed than Ordinary people, I hate the Academy.

The Rocky films are ok, But don't even go half way to compare with the style,Acting & Directing as in Raging Bull, Plus Raging Bull is about a real person, Life story of Jake Lamotta Not a Sly Stalone Who lets face it can't act or even speak properly and along with arnie, Segal, Van Dam, Etc would not be in any films if it wasn't for muscles.

Ok, Scorsese's films are one of a kind, no doubt. But don't get stupid and go degrading the Rocky movies. The Rocky series is one of the greatest achievements in American film and Sylvester Stallone did an incredible job in them. The way he spoke was part of his character.

This is one of the greatest movies of all time in my opinion along with 3 of the Godfather movies,Scarface,Taxi Driver,Rocky series, Rambo Series, Goodfellas and all of the other movies from the early 70's through the late 90s but the movies we have now in the 2000's and 2010's are so horrible and annoying. we could of have more great movies but the annoying CGIs and other crap they use just killed it.
