Richie has absolutely monster chops for example. SRV did. Doug Aldrich does. So did Gary Moore. All monster chops.

I've been skipping around looking at Char and he sorta sucks. People like Kotzen completely outclass the guy. For the people that are fighting saying Char is great, and better yet, better than people like Kotzen? I doubt you play guitar at all..or maybe you are just tone deaf.

Wow, I just watched the video again and I am even more amazed with just how sad Char's playing is. He is like some 16 year old kid that has been playing for 3 years trying out an amp in his local music store while Kotzen is blaring out insightful melodic ideas a mile a minute...

Basically put, Char's playing is childish and a bit annoying in how unoriginal and basic it is, while Kotzen makes you want to watch his playing over and over so you can figure out all his cool ideas...

Kotzen is painting intricate pictures of melody and rhythm that is sensitive and subtle, while Char is using uninventive licks that show a lack of understanding of both. His playing is childish and extremely linear...

i agree in that point. char can't compete with richie, he hasn't got the skills and potentials in expression and phrasings. Richie is one of the best, that's a fact. But I guess everybody knows that here. It is just that I would't say that char is a bad or childish player, well of course he is just another "average" guitarplayer, but that dosn't mean he is playing childish. he just sticks to the typical stuff, but that's okay. still sounds good

there is some good stuff out there from char, this didn't really convince me either. Seems to overplay his flurry. I would say that people like Kirk Hammet lack the maturity of playing with expression......he is so sloppy.

although char plays a lot stereotype, he knows how not to play sloppy, while people like kirk hammet etc. play crappy

lol you are what is known as wrong...the only thing that isn't opinion is science, and im pretty sure guitar isn't a science. There isn't an optimum amount of modal notes or speed for a passage to be quantified. It is down to personal taste as to what extent a melodic passage connects with you. Fans of slash would not appreciate richie so much but I would certainly appreciate richie more. In my opinion Richie totally blew me away with his playing. Would you quantify art?

If someone can paint or draw a face so it looks exactly like someone, that shows skill and great technique. If two people attempt to do the same and one looks like a bad stick figure, and the other looks like a photo of the person, who is technically better?

This does not mean you can tell someone that there is a right way or a wrong way, or which version to prefer, but it does show which one has command over their art, and which one does not.

I completely understand that richie is playing ultra teck and epic though i disagree that individuals can judge the parameters for excellent. Market led judgment may be flawed but ultimately i think it is fairer because it doesn't discount people's opinions. i.e. those who like char are not douchbages

I said that if they "can," draw a certain way that reflects and accurate representation, and other cannot and is left with a stick figure. The difference is marked, and great...
