Que l'orgue Cavaillé de Saint Ouen soit une pure merveille, un chef d'oeuvre, je suis tout à fait d'accord avec vous, ayant eu la joie de le jouer moi même. Pour ce que vous dites de Chapuis, m'a fois... Un improvisateur pourquoi pas (bien que ce ne fut pas l'avis de son professeur M. Dupré !) , un improvisateur de style romantique ?! je vous suggère de prendre le temps d'écouter d'autres organistes plus pointus en la matière (Vivants ou morts il y en a) .

Avez vous remarqué que M. Chapuis, aussi bon improvisateur qu'il est, n'a pas su garder le thème du Notre Père durant toute son exécution (chose acceptable puisque nous sommes dans le registre de l'improvisation libre) mais il est même parti sur le thème d'une autre de ses improvisations qui se trouve sur le DVD... il nous a fait une jolie salade musicale...

Lovely and appropriate meditation on the hymn tune Vater Unser, the setting for Martin Luther's German translation of the Lord's Prayer. Captures the intimacy of Jesus' teaching on prayer astonishingly well. Chapuis' interpretation is so moving that one almost does not need the actual words of the prayer to speak with God, with the music conveying the essence of the prayer in its own right especially if the one praying has the actual prayer in memory.

Beautifully played by Michel Chapuis. The sonority of the flue work is one of the hallmarks of this famous instrument. But then every one of the 64 stops on this organ is famous, so I suppose we should not be surprised.
