  • Let's see she is Greek right...if America is so bad why in the hell does she claim herself an American. And like all leftist her first tactic was to make a personal attacks . She demeaned several individuals by name. Dr VDH was able to make a cogent argument without one attacking a single person. Go Home Huffy

  • @RPenta media left of the public eye.

Also consider this..if Bush and Blair knew there were no nukes in Iraq pre invasion, why was NOTHING found? Surely to justify something false (which they of needed to do) there would of been (eg) planted evidence, forged documents, ANYTHING to eliminate the threat of the world uncovering the real truth. The fact they found nothing surely is evidence they weren't trying to deceive us? Why would TWO countries commit such an act of suicide with no motive?

  • @RPenta if I may make a point regarding the nuke issue. The head of UNSCOM, Rolf Ekeus, a man far higher and more capable than Hans Blix makes it very clear in his work that the decision Bush and Blair came to regarding WMD's was right considering the entire history of Sadam's repeated violation of UN sanctions, his desperate goal to re start his weapons programs and his history of genocide and links with Al-Q to name but a few....and this is coming from the HEAD of Unscom. Something the.....

  • @deluxmatty01

    "links with Al-Q"

-- Really? Could you point me to some sources, please?

  • Hanson is a great scholar, at times here maybe be a little naive regarding equality in America but his argument for toppling Sadam is superb. Unlike many left wingers he understands the nature of dictators and warfare. Why is it so many anti war apologists seem to have a 'just take care of yourself' attitude? Many of them even opposed intervening in BOSNIA, and with their approach, presumably, would justify the fact the world 'didn't get involved' in Rwanda either.

  • (continued) Our population and government are unequivocally pro-American. There is just a small but loud cabal of left-wing extremists who are against anything the West does and have branded the society that has allowed them to live their "leisured lives" -- as VDH said in his lecture -- as 'evil', and thus are anti-American. Arianna 'Huffington' is part of that group. Quite ironic that she had to leave the mess that Greece has become under her propounded utopian ideals.

  • VDH is absolutely right. The Dutch have always been a fiercely pro-American voice in Europe. Never in the history of my country have we taken a stance against the US (not even on Iraq or Afghanistan). In fact, we were the first to recognize the US as a country and Dutch bankers played a major role in financing the American Revolution. We still remember WWII, the Marshall Plan, and the Soviet Empire at a stone's throw distance. The US saved our democracy on more than one occasion.

  • VDH kicked ass here. He gives a big picture viewpoint to back up his argument and Huffington seems to spend most of her time mis-characterizing his arguments.

  • lol did you guys not listen until the end of the video? I see a bunch of americunts making comments, im from canada

Google New York Times article: "The American Empire: THe burden" by Liberal party leader of the opposition in Canada. Michael Ignatieff

  • Wow!!!! I don't think she understood what the topic was they were supposed to be debating about. Perhaps she doesn't understand the topic period!!! She was absolutely handed a decisive loss by Hanson.

  • Just listened to this on my iPod while running and while I think Huffington did better than I expected, she was simply outclassed. Her opening statement was, as VDH said, actually a rebuttal and she started off with a backhanded compliment and she just misinterpreted and made it more personal from there. But I shouldn't be surprised she spoke so condescendingly as she did the very same thing with Rudy Giuliani on msnbc's Morning Joe a few months back.

  • UGH. This lady is making my mouth froth with rage. First she disregards anything Hanson said in his first speech to then go on ahead with her shoddy, parroted talking points that addresses nothing Hanson said. Huffington hasn't a single original thought in her illogical mind—It's like she had her speeches pre-written.

  • @CarlGaming It seems to me like there is a huge misunderstanding made by the left of the Neocon position. She was only prepared to talk about WMD (It seems like they all are), so she ignored the other stuff.

When they bring up WMD, the Neocon says all right, what about the other 97 articles in the resolution passed by Congress?

And she did have her speech pre-written.

  • Grotesque, childish and a rather sad demagoguery - the way Huffington jumps about the topics, all the while accusing Hanson of the same. A sound-byte talk-show format - i.e. something far less substantial - would have favored her as she does not respect any discussion lasting longer than her limited own attention-span.

  • @bobsteronic grotesque demagogery? Sounds like how Bush and Chaney should be described; the disaster of Iraq and Afghanistan is the historical refutation of the lies Hanson is peddling.

  • @RPenta Thanks for being civil, first of all. Secondly, I'd like be happy to celebrate agreement with you if the lies being told weren't ones of mis-placed political salesmanship (emphasizing, incorrectly - the WMD issue instead of the other 20+ UN articles in its resolution) as opposed to the outright intentional misleading of the public - which I don't think occured. Also, recall the first guy who mused about "removing Saddam" was Bill Clinton, long before Bush/Chaney were even on the scene.

  • @bobsteronic Let's talk about Bush/Chaney for a while; there is no doubt they and their neo-con cadre and the Republican leadership in the Congress knew that Saddam had no WMD and did not have any (never any nukes) since probably the end of Gulf War 1 (really Gulf War 2 and now 3), unless you think all US intelligence agencies had it wrong but they had to sell the WMD--among other reasons because that was the only one that gave the fig leaf of legality to launch a preemptive war.

  • Respond to this video... As to Mr. Clinton, well he presided over a barbaric embargo of Iraq that brought enormous suffering and death--so I would have him in the dock along with Bush and Chaney. By the way, I would not hold their war crimes trials in the Hague but I have to narrow down the candidate venues--I have about a half dozen interesting ones

  • Huffington is an airhead. Hanson makes sense. Deal with reality, not petty political points.

  • @mercster2000 But I would not have picked Ariana Huffington to debate Hanson; I would have picked Michael Parenti, the late Chalmers Johnson, Andrew Bacevich, Grant F. Smith, and many others; even John Perkins. I hate imperialists.
