I was in Uganda in 1977 ( a white Canadian) and although the shops were pretty bare, I had no problems at all. I stayed with a Baganda family for 3 weeks on the outskirts of Kampala. Amin was being pilloried in the western press, but many of the people I met held him in high esteem, especially the majority Buganda tribe who worshipped Amin for returning the body of King Freddy from England back to his native Uganda.
