so talented to stay in character and improvise realistic and funny answers on a live chat show specially with such a prick on the other side of the desk
@AlexFruen I'm not sure. He's pretty well known for becoming Partridge on set... or he was. It's almost another person for him to be... like Lily Savage was for Paul O'Grady.
I mean he probably had an idea of what he'd be asked like most interviewees, but I got the feeling it wasn't quite scripted. I'd be interested to find out for sure one way or the other though...
For the record, not sure if it's been mentioned below or not, but from 4:02-4:14 he is referring to the Bee Gees walking off the show - this show was the week after the episodes in which the incident happened.
For the record, if the Bee Gees can't take a bit of gentle ribbing - because clearly Clive Anderson can given that he's subjecting himself to one of the most audaciously obnoxious creations in British comedy - then fuck 'em.
This really is Coogan at his best - I love this character! Nice idea to do the interview entirely in character! I actually tackle an Alan Partridge on my impressions video. There aren't any special effects on the video, but unless you're 'a big posh sod with plumbs in yer mouth', you may get a laugh or two! Knowing me Mike, knowing you youtube'.
The blazer Steve has on I had it made for my son with the badge exacly the same also I had the tie done aswell. I ha it done for when he wenyt to see him in liverpool everything is spot on with it. If anyone wants to make any reasonable offers on it? Just a shame really Steve didn't have the time to sign a picture for my son:( the blazer is an adult size.
...and before you call me a nasty bastard again. That previous quote was in it's entirety, including the ending. Have a search for "alan partridge anecdote" on this site :)
How dry another quote, I am aware of the said anecdote as I stated I had retracted the comments before your reply! I called you a "nasty bastard" because you called me a idiot! I knew I had heard that story before I thought that sounds familiar! So to use another comic quote "Go back to Russia!" " Barney the Simpsons!"
Right I'll tell you an anecdote. In 1974 I was catching the London train from Crewe station. It was very crowded I found myself in a last-minute rush for the one remaining seat beside a tall good-looking man with collar-length hair, it was the seventies; buckaroo! I looked up and saw it was none other than Peter Purves, it was the height of his Blue Peter career. He said "You jammy bastard" and quick as a flash I replied "Don't be blue, Peter" Needless to say, I had the last laugh, now fuck off!
Well before Sasha and Gervais (I love them too) the monolith of the character driven fly on the wall moc-umentory award will always, always go to Sir Steve Coogan and doesn't Clive Anderson look too muck like a Sandi Toksvig in men's drag?
cooghan clearly has forgotten the character of partridge here, and is purely busking. it is interesting to see cooghan's lapses at his own great creation. rare but they are around. full marks for using the name sonia manyon in the script though.
Steve Coogan, pure comedy genius. Pual Calf and Alan Partridge such a contrast in character and they both work so well. as opose to Ricky Gervais who simply portrays himself in all his roles, i do like Ricky but doesn't even come close to Steve Coogan's ability
Not really, Alan is a misanthropist whereas Brent strives to be accepted and popular. Rob Brydon in Marion and Geoff is similar to Alan but there are differences in character to silence any claims of plagiarism.
Never really considered the Geoff out of Marion and Geoff comparison but fair point. I think Partridge and Brent are definitely both similar in terms of being self-centered and always end up getting themselves in the s**t!
Dont want to sound picky but Rob Brydon's character is actually called Keith. Keith is the complete opposite of Alan but as a result is just as unpopular. Alan is scornful of society; especially youth, which makes him completely out of touch and as a result he is rejected by his family. Similarly Keith is just as unwanted by wife Marion and their 2 children, but rather than being hateful like Alan, Keith is actually too nice. They are at opposite ends of the spectrum but are equally disliked
@ThePokeyPictures I don't want to be petty about it, but I fail to see how Alan Partridge could be portrayed for US audiences? The US and the UK share a lot of history, but it's impossible to transfer things seemlessly, e.g. what's the American equivolent of Norwich, Alan's accent..etc
If they change the name from Alan Partridge then it's cool, but it'd be kinda lame if the American version of Alan became the most well known.. :(
@sheepeasy i think the equivelent of norwich is rockville maryland, ive been to both and theyre very similar and alan is a bit like a cruder michael scott so i think it would work gr8 if they workshopped it a touch
@sheepeasy The US ought not to bother doing their own version of Alan Partridge. is the idea floating around solely on the basis of the popularity it already has? if so, then the true driving force is making money (it's what the American TV execs had in mind when they tried to get the US version of Red Dwarf going). the US already has it's own classics - why is it then that when a British programme gets successful they feel the need to make their own version? why so insecure? theres no need.
