His timbre is better than his tone - at least in the lower growling. That countryfied rasp helps to mask the off-key nature of some notes. And for some voices, an off-key note isn't as jarring.

I really like it that Telly likes this song so enough to do his version, and he doesn't sound too bad - not great but he manages I feel. He sounds so enthusiastic and you can tell he is loving just doing this classic. To me, this song itself kind of sells it on its own. It's good to see him here actually.
