  • @MooPotPie

you judge hard, but there are different opinions from yours also.

Please permit others to like greatly such great musicality and interpretation, me included.

    All the best to you

  • Beautifully done. I really appreciated the dynamics.

  • I promise I'm not one of the Scott Joplin police but this was nearly unrecognisable. Such a shame as Mimi Blais has a definite touch required to get the most out of Joplin. I think maybe I have a problem with rewriting original music rather than doing variations on a theme. Still, a good performance though and credit where credit is due.

  • That's so hot, it fried itself...

Joplin would roll over with this one...

  • Thanks to "rtpress", I really enjoy this real Ragtimer's performance, not only her piano play, but also her love to this composition and Ragtime itself... ;-)

  • A very classical rendition - I love it.

  • C'est tellement beau, j'aime tellement cette pièce et ta façon de l'interpréter.

  • oh my goodness, when it started I thought, oh geez this is far slower than how I would like it, but it was spectacular performance. I could feel the sincerity in the feeling the music. Thanks for this video. This new tempo is a fantastic interpretation.

  • it's really great. Do you know where I can get the music note?

  • It can be found on Ted Tjaden's site. I'll send you a link.

    Howard

  • This is wonderful! Good improv without destroying the spirit of the piece. Who plays this?

  • :( this is how an amazing pianist can ruin an amazing rag.

    in my opinion!

  • Amen to that. Blais is obviously a fine pianist, but in this performance, she goes way beyond embellishment to wholesale rewriting of the piece. The charming lilt of the A section is destroyed.

  • Thanks, I've made the correction. There are actually 2 different pieces with confusingly similar title pages:

Weeping Willow-Ragtime Two Step, Scott Joplin (1903)

Weeping Willow Rag, H.A. Fischler (1911)

    Howard

  • It is important to note that the title of this piece is "Weeping Willow" (and Not "Weeping Willow Rag" which is an entirely different scarcely played issued by Vandersloot Music Co.)

This performance is quite unique - and lovely too!
