I just bought the K-X, really excited! My question is, why exactly are old lenses so much cheaper than new lenses? I mean I couldn't find any new large aperture lens for under £100, yet you can get old ones for £50 all over ebay? I realise that autofocus probably won't work properly on an old one, is that the only reason they're so cheap?

Hi...i've onother question about this beautiful camera..i was thinking to buy a SanDisk Extreme Pro...i know that is an Uhs...and the kx doesn't support uhs...but this mean that the KX will not write/read at the maximum speed or the camera doesn't recognize the card at all??

F stands for f-stop, not focus. This is how wide the aperture is set at.

@FlattyRatty [edited] that is EXACTLY what i am "googling" and "youtubing" right now as well to decide which i'll get... Pentax has the hd video mode which a390 doesn't. both have live view, a390 has the tiltable/retractable lcd which pentax doesn't. a390 has more connections options - memory stick, hdmi output, sd, sdhc etc... so that's "features"-wise, as far as the real technical nitty gritty things, i don't know enough about photography to really say.

I did a pretty extensive research about both cameras before I bought mine last week. I went with the pentax KX. A lot more bang for the buck. The Nikon does not have 720p video, does not have HDR built in, doesn't have image stabilization INSIDE the camera. Check out my videos on the camera, I took some pics AND 720p video just when I got my camera, with kit lens. Check em out! GL with ur camera.

@catuch Shouldve went with the d90 or d5000, Much better futureproofing/body build, menus, Swivel screen. Wider array of cheaper lenses. Bigger nikon community to discuss your camera with and/or help with camera functions.

Not to mention battery grip for way longer battery times with a better feel. Also has hdmi output, Not to mention most people don't take pentax owners seriously ;0

dude, I love reviews but it would be good if you researched the Kx a bit more before reviewing it. The kit lens is 18-55 not 15-85, you referred to the aperture as the focus etc....good job but would prefer a bit more technical understanding. thanks.

the shutter speed is 1/6000 of a second

but you have to ajust it manulay to get it at 1/6000 or you can do the sport scn mode

Thank you! It is a good idea to use the sport scene mode. I will try it . I was researching online and one website (don´t recall the name) said something about if I want delate shutter speed I have to use the SV mode and set the speed slower by rotating the dial to the left. Is it ISO mode? OMG... I don´t get it! :) I am soooo frustrated by knowing that I have a good camera and I have no idea how to use the cool features... .:)

I paid $465 with free shipping. New body + kit lens. Awesome value with the KX.

Plastics feel cheaper than my old K100D. The lack of noise at high ISO is awesome. Lack of silent video capture with shake reduction enabled is a big disappointment, considering that was the big upgrade point moving from my old camera. No focal point indicators on the viewfinder (just the one focus indicator on the bottom). Very fast AF motor. Live view is nice.

Good review. Helped me a lot to decide to buy this camera.

However your explanation of HDR is not correct. What you say is that HDR = BestPic. That is not true.

In HDR-mode the camera takes 3 pictures at different exposures. It then merges these 3 images together and creates a new image that has a much higher contrast than if you take only 1 picture.

@xXsarahxrockstarXx haha dude, for the price there's nothing that will touch it, and even in higher price ranges this competes. regardless of the video, the pentax cameras take stunning photos. you'll be more and more impressed, dont get wrapped up in specs and hype of other more expensive cameras, proof is in the flesh and these are hands down the best beginner/intermediate camera starting point. Pentax make great limited lenses too, coupled with some nice glass, unstoppable.

As you know I would go towards pentax as I own it

However, nikon does have the movable lcd for point of views, but image quality and video quality I would still prefer the pentax

Its all up to preference
