  • I closed my face book account and never have bin on twitter I would rather do things in the real world.

  • I have always considered facebook and twitter lame. I have never understood the need. And I will never understand why people are so eager to put so much personal information anywhere on the internet for the public to see.

  • Except Facebook isn't supposed to replace anything. It is just another waste of time that happens to be slightly more fun then what people used to do. Facebook can really bond people and to not acknowledge that is just stupid. Ofcourse you don't talk with those 200-300 people all the time. But that was never the point in the first place.

  • I hate FB, I hate the fact that people are constantly writing what they are doing so annoying, I preferred myspace better because people didnt' do that, but I have neither now. My preference is now youtube, really it's so much better nothing beats watching videos youre interested in watching and having ur friends know what u watch and what u favorite and vice versa and u can send each other messages. To me theirs no reason I need to know when ur bored and u desperately need someone to hit u up!

  • I'm 21 and proud I don't have a Facebook, myspace, twitter, etc...

  • @AsAboveSoBelow01 go buy urself a candy bah

  • How wrong are these people? Major Dad has no clue what he's talking about. Provided you don't use Facebook as an excuse to not engage real people in real life, it simply makes friendships more robust. Learning about people's politics, beliefs, music interests, thoughts.... it only serves to improve your relationships when you finally get together for a beer.

  • Yey I'm ahead of my time. I closed my facebook years ago, after a brief few months of being sub'd to it. The privacy policy was the real reason, but I've never been into this social media hype. Maybe because I'm not into social chit chat anyway, I don't see the point. But gimme focused group cooperation in MMO's any day.

  • I have over 14,000 friends on facebook all of whom I know personally and most of whom I know intimately.

  • I'm about 4 years ahead of all of these people.

  • @TheTruth006 me too

  • @mrchoochoohead Um... I'd say most people on YouTube are.

  • In this video: old people pretending they know what's trendy.

  • Dear God please make this come true, make Zuckerberg a has-been.

  • The "I'm cool because I don't do what everyone else does" mob is out in force.

    Hello??

You are still following a crowd. Why be proud of it? Just use the tools. Or not.

  • @ldorland you are right and it is quite irritating

  • I think that guy is out of touch. "suburbs that we all live in" A lot of people don't live in his boring suburb world.

  • Whether the novelty wears off or not, social networks are still a handy tool.

  • @elsquibbs I think the usefulness of them is overstated - eg : you must have had the experience of people using the event invitation function to try and get people to an event? "why didnt you invite me? " "I did I sent you an event invitation!" "I dont read those fucking things, just email me or phone me" "oh ok" - I dont know of ANY event in the last 4 years of me using FB where people met face to face in "teh real wurld" that wasnt powered by mobiles and email. I hear you though.

  • I have never subscribed to FB and am proud of it. My friends always seem to think I should be pitied because of my "disconnection" from everyone however the reality could not be further from that. I have been on other social networking sites before FB got so big and always was so bored with it. Sure you can keep in touch with everyone in your life conveniently, however I started to notice it becoming a social crutch and sucking away all the time i could be PHYSICALLY interacting with my friends.

  • Am I the only who doesn't join stuff just because they're new and popular? I always assess if a "social network" site will actually do my life (plus cyber life/downtime/free time, whatever you call em) good or if they are just a waste of time.

  • This channel is mislabeled.

It's ForYouTube. Not For A TV.

  • It's bigger than ever. Has become a part of peoples live's. The question is how to stop it?

  • Take with a grain of salt and research to scrutinize for your satisfaction.

  • I don't understand how anyone would want to have hundreds and hundreds of Facebook "friends". Why would someone "friend" all those people, most of which they don't know at all, or hardly know? They're just names floating out in cyberspace. I have 17 Facebook friends, and they are all close friends or relatives. And my privacy settings are locked down to just them. I don't want people that I barely know or not know at all seeing my status updates or posts.

  • @panurge987 Recall how the president got elected, you would understand why people want to have hundreds and hundreds of Facebook "friends".

  • @panurge987 Its totally dependent on the value of facebook friends to the person. It is more like contacts for me i have like 300 and about 100 of them i know and meet regularly but lots are jsut contacts or friends of the family etc.

  • @panurge987 Because "social" games are a pain to play without 100+ neighbors? FB as a network for social interaction just died after I started playing.

  • @StrikaAmaru That is a fair point. Though I see no reason why those games couldn't allow people to interact within those games without having to "friend" them. Maybe there already is a way to do this on Facebook - I don't know because I don't use Facebook for games, pesonally.

  • @panurge987 "I see no reason why those games couldn't allow people to interact within those games without having to "friend" them" Technical problems, I think; you need friend rights to post to somebody's wall.

I could live with game-friends; it's one way to meet people and actually allow social interaction - which was the whole point. But the big problem is that FB games can't be arsed to separate player friends from non-player friends, which bothers both non-players and me as a player.

  • Something newer, more sophisticated and more exclusive will replace facebook. Once a social networking site is saturated by the dregs of society the cool kids move somewhere else, the same principle applies to fashion, nightclubs etc.

  • i dont think it is dying..reason being the army and everything else encourages you to create an account these days. is ee this getting worse

  • I was a freshman in college when it came out and it was great when it started, recently Ive been questioning myself why Im friends with hundreds of people I dont talk to or probably wont see any time soon

  • @CityLoch Me too, actually deliberately just stopped using FB for a week. Logged back in yesterday. I missed literally nothing at all. It all seems a bit pointless now.

  • @streetfightsecrets I only use facebook for debating. The only benefit of it is the lack of the 500 character limit. Aside from that, there's pretty much no reason to use it. It's just another version of email or YouTube, except that email is better for tracking, and fb is better for text, but YouTube is still the best in regard to the interactivity of text and video. But definitely, fb has the advantage of no 500 char limit.

  • @streetfightsecrets

It is mostly pointless. Welcome back to reality.

  • @NekoMouser Does it go beyond pointless? Does it actually induce neurotic / narcisstic behaviour - I have freinds who post on their girlfriends walls "hey babe, good to see you xxx" - they live together! why not just shout into the next room? And Im not talking about my younger mates, Im talking about grown assed men using fb as a medium for public displays of affection. My pet theory, is that just like internet forums fb brings wierd shit out of peoples psyches. What do you guys think?

  • @NekoMouser

ps the irony of you welcoming me back to reality via youtube... but actually youtube may be a far more valid medium as it brings together people based on similar points of view rather than just some trivial historic context (Im freestyling, I dont know that thats true)

pps already this thread is more interesting than 99.99% of shit the people on my friends list write on their status updates and walls

    go youtube, boo facebook?

  • @streetfightsecrets Exactly. The only downside is the 500 char limit. If it wasn't for that, I'd literally pretty much never use facebook. As it is, I don't get it. It's only useful for the lack of a character limit.

  • Hopefully.

  • Was never there to begin with... For some it is a fantastic way to fall into contact with family or ...Thats all

  • First.

  • @Kwikspur Your mother must be so proud.

  • @AduhAwas Indescribably. We've been training for this day for literally years.

  • @Kwikspur So, by "literally years", you mean 5-6 years, at most. YouTube hasn't been around all that long yet.

  • @SomethingSea1 Nope, here at Columbia we've been using future-comment technology. My mother and I, that is. I'd say more but it would only get more confusing.

  • @Kwikspur lol PM it to me. That sounds really interesting.

  • Comment removed

  • @AduhAwas Also, that "first" just won me a head research position at Columbia University. What now?

  • @Kwikspur Its sad to see that they have such low standards.

  • @AduhAwas Did you watch the video and not see what I was referencing? And just for the record, I'm actually a graduate student of Classics at Columbia and quite capable of producing scholarly work and engaging in academic discussion and debate. If you earnestly would take one's persona on the internet as representative of their mental sphere of reckoning, you're very likely on the lower scale of human intellect.

  • @Kwikspur You are the one who is misrepresenting yourself. Don't partake in childish behavior and expect not to get reprimanded. And yes I didn't watch the video because it is premium accounts only.
