Do you know when they are babys, when they jump.....Could you lose it by that? I mean because i would be scared of it jumping and never getting it back.
Absolutely. When they are babies handle them in a wide open area with no cover at floor level. It's a pain trying to recover one of the little guys from hiding under the baseboard. Once they get used to the idea you aren't going to eat them they calm down. Mine got to the point where I could open the terrarium door and it would jump into my hand.
I've never seen one that's aggressive to a person. I'm sure there's a few out there. But babies certainly won't be. If you handle cresties regularly, they'll come right out when you open the lid and some will even hop on to you. They're great little critters :)
cool. If i get my crested gecko he/she/whatever will be a newborn(im estimating due to size) and i have a question, would you reccmond putting it in a tupperware container or something small like that?
Sure, as long as you have ventilation and a place for it to hide. Just make sure that it's a big enough container that the gecko can explore. If you're feeding it crickets along with gecko diet, then the more sparse the enclosure the better while it's a baby. That way the crickets can't hide from it and come out to chew on it's skin later.
i hav a red crested gecko 2 month boy! i luv him! wen ther babies if u stress them out it is possible for their tails to drop. once they drop they dont grow back. so yea.... hope i can help one of u. if u hav any question u can ask me.
I've been thinking about getting a crested gecko and I've been reading about them but I can't find anything about how many you can keep together. Do females mind having 2 or 3 other female crested geckos as long as the habitat is big enough? Anyone know? I'd appreciate it
You can have 3 females to 1 male in a tank around the size of the 18*18*24 EXO TERRA. If it is bigger than more females, but that is all you really need. Unless you have like a 50 gallon, don't have 2 males, or they will fight to the death over territory.
Their skin is very thin but not that sensitive. Babies are so tiny you have to be very careful handling them, but the adults hop around on you and are quite resilient.
i got a baby crested gecko, and he seems to be fine. but im worried about his diet. i know he's nocturnal, but i never see him eating. i give him cgd, and i tried giving him mashed fruit like it said in the information i got. does anybody know what kind of fruit they eat? are strawberries ok?
[[arent crested geckos soooooo cute?? i love when they jump!]]
You'll likely never see him eat unless you have some on your finger and he licks it off. They're very shy about going to their food bowls.
My adult male eats the CGD no problem, but I had a female and a baby that calcium crashed, likely because they preferred fruit which lacked the nutrition they needed. He does well on CGD alone. But dusted crickets are a nice treat if they'll chase them :)
i fed him some crickets and my brother & i watched him catch them. one more question though[sorry], how do you know when they calcium crash? [i read somewhere that you can check their calcium sacs but i cant get him to open his mouth cuz i dont want to hurt him]
I have a crested Gecko.I was told they only eat fruit to.I also have 2 Golden Geckos. One moring Left the top off and he climb out and started eating the crickets.and mealworms.
He get crickets every other day now and baby food wen hes out and about. He licks it off my hand.love it.....
my gecko doesn't want to eat anything..:(, he's a baby, I tried worms but didn't work.. he will die soon!! somebody knows what can I do? I try to forced it to eat small pieces of apple and banana......... PLEASE HELP!!
Try using the Crested Gecko Meal replacement powder, or the Gargoyle Gecko Meal replacement powder (either the T-Rex or Repashy brands are good). Mix them with water - nothing else! - until they are a fine paste and feed it to the gecko. That is all they need to live; no live food, ever again. Some people use the Gargoyle brand for Cresties because it has higher protein. Try the Crestie stuff to start and maybe try the Gargoyle later, if you feel your animal still looks too skinny.
They're decent runners, but they really excel at leaping. If they're startled or not used to being handled they can take off pretty fast. Babies should be handled in an open area while they get used to you. It's a pain trying to dig them out from under household items :)
You can actually get a formula at pet stores called "Crested Gecko Diet". It's a powder that you mix with water into paste form. It's got all the nutritional requirements.
Cresties are really susceptible to calcium deficiency, and can become fatally ill if they don't get enough.
well i sort of spoiled mine-i spent $250 on the cage and furniture (leaves, vines, water bowls, etc.) and then another $150 on the gecko, but im sure that u could get the whole deal for maybe half that price.
At the reptile show in Toronto you can easily find babies for under 80 dollars Canadian. If you hang around to the end when people are trying to move inventory you can get even better deals. That applies to any show really though :) I'd guess that they can be procured even cheaper at US shows.
how big does this gecko get and is it a god pet i have 5 brown anoles and i have 2 more cages to fill up but i dont know what to put in them and were did u get it
nice gecko man, i love wierd pets, i have 6 indian stick insect nymphs and im gettin a mantis in may, ive been thinking about getting a gecko when i leave school and get a job lol, nice specimen likes :D
he/she seems to be breathing quite heavy tho, but that could also be since he/she is young my crested is a bit older so it could be the age difference
In my living room. They make great pets and are easy to care for. They're adventurous and like to jump from one place to another though so you really have to watch out if there are other pets roaming the house. That gecko was about 4cm long when the video was taken. It's head was just slightly bigger than the play button on the video.
i dont kno if i should get a leapord gecko or a crested gecko :/
