There are different types of capitalism. What we need is National Capitalism. Hi , I know what it feels like to be long term unemployed. I live in Australia , we may be having a resources boom, but that doens't help me. I've given up looking for work, now I work as a voluteer. Just so I have a current reference for job interviews which I dont get very many of. Two weeks ago I had a job interview, but I didn't get the role. I believe being long term unemployed makes it harder to get a job because an employer will take the guy with the most recent work history.
I was actually looking forward to getting laid off to collect and the company even offered me $1400 in severance pay, but no my damn parents were like "you should take the job!! You really need to!!" Being the idiot I am, I followed their damn advice. I can now say the worst mistake I ever made in my life was following the advice of my parents. Figures since they are money oriented.
I got laid off from my low supervisor job in June but got transferred to another program with the same position in the company who was moving to our building, but they didn't train me right and were screwing me over. I walked out and got fired 2 months ago. Still looking for another job and no hope in sight. Appealed for unemployment and still waiting on a hearing.

@treeoftears I'm an electrician. Up until the slow down, I always worked for companies and had an employee mindset. I got several jobs after that, but they all seemed as if they were temporary because I was always the first to go. Might have a bit to do with the political environment.
I started taking unemployment, but eventually I stopped taking benefits on my own. There is a big learning curve, but I'm doing good. Recently, a friend told me about a good job opening, but now I like being FREE!
Applying for jobs is a job. You have to work at it every day and for several hours a day. It is a tough world out there and things have changed. It is not nice but it is survival of the fittest .

I used to manage at a McD. Before the economy fell off the cliff, my location was lucky to get 2 or 3 applicants a month. In fact, before this time, McD relied on J-1 Visa, Work and Travel, foreign student contract slave labor. January 1, 2009, went from maybe 3 apps a month, to an average of 50 apps per week. We had even had laid off construction workers who made $25 and $30 an hour, coming in literally begging for minimum wage. McD entered an employers market, they could now be very selective.
I couldn't collect unemployment because I owned my own business that was a trucking company with one truck, and me running it! - People like me do not count for the un-employment numbers! - it’s a total lie as far as the numbers go, and I can not get a job at all!

@treeoftears I'm an electrician. Up until the slow down, I always worked for companies and had an employee mindset. I got several jobs after that, but they all seemed as if they were temporary because I was always the first to go. Might have a bit to do with the political environment.
I started taking unemployment, but eventually I stopped taking benefits on my own. There is a big learning curve, but I'm doing good. Recently, a friend told me about a good job opening, but now I like being FREE!

I used to manage at a McD. Before the economy fell off the cliff, my location was lucky to get 2 or 3 applicants a month. In fact, before this time, McD relied on J-1 Visa, Work and Travel, foreign student contract slave labor. January 1, 2009, went from maybe 3 apps a month, to an average of 50 apps per week. We had even had laid off construction workers who made $25 and $30 an hour, coming in literally begging for minimum wage. McD entered an employers market, they could now be very selective.

The reason why there are budget problems around the nation is because the tax base has shrunk down to nothing because so many people are unemployed and they are unable to contribute to the tax base. While politicians keep talking shit about job creations just to get elected or re-elected, their puppet masters keep outsourcing US jobs. This trend will never stop. We have lack of regulations and the NAFTA bill is still kicking! Also, the public sector jobs are shrinking.

@imanyabob Well, you are a little bit harsh but I agree with the fact that American men are cowards and don't know how to stand up for anything including their families. We have a generation of brainwashed (keyboard riders) who want someone else to fix everything. If they have a job, they could give a shit about the other guy (or girl) who doesn't; not realizing that they too will probably get their asses fired someday too at some point. Then they'll send their woman out to the welfare line.

A guy like you would work in a job that has been shipped overseas, you just dont know you would like that job because its non existent here. Light manufacturing, assembly, industrial technology. Perfect for a guy like him.
Mcdonalds dont call back becase they are looking for beauty queens and the managers nephew to work there.
The biggest problem I had when looking for work was being overqualified and too experienced. Companies want people who wont bitch about their pay.

Some of the irony and bad intentions in the whole unemployment mess is that companies big and small should be hiring like crazy. The baby boomers are supposed to be dying and/or retiring. All these companies want employees with 3-5 years experience. Well you have to have 3-5 years of the experienced workers passing down their skills to the news guys then.
Companies have to train new people or go out of business entirely. It's something that has to be done good or bad economy

non-existent jobs cannot be obtained. This is the part of the shell game where people start to realize that under the shells, THERE ARE NO JOBS (historically, no pea under the shell)
The interviewed person is right about things: you cannot ship a mechanic overseas (India for example can answer phones but not come over with a screwdriver to fix things)... However, when the mechanics cannot find work, this tells you more about how broken the system is than many people REALIZE NOW.

@jlsinternet Already been down that road, but I wasn't making enough to sustain myself. I now live in the dining room with family. It makes it a LOT harder, not having room to work on or store computers. I am trying to find random on-site work though.

The EPA just issued massive regulations that will shut down Coal companies, Massive lay offs are coming because of it, also expect your Utility bills to shyrocket..again Obama supported EPA regulations.
