  • Since when is Herod an effeminate Filipino man? LOL

  • @Bdawg9891 I couldn't agree with you more.

  • I wonder if he got any inspiration for this part from Ruby Rhod

  • this is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Can he play Angel?

  • This is freaking brilliant.

  • he is really good.

  • ahahahah.

i think i'm in love with him.

  • Damn. He should have been Judas.

  • Jose Antonio

    -eman KALBO

  • his behaviour reminds me of Julian King from "The Madagascar" :p

  • Please bring this play to Manila, Philippines..... PLEAAAASSSSSEEEEE! The best Jesus Christ Superstar play ever!

  • i just saw jesus christ super star in Pittsburgh at the benedum and the herod was way better then this guy but i really love this guy too! he is so cute to!

  • Somebody please tell me what he

  • best herod EVER!!!!!

  • このヘロデ王は、いいね~。

  • I'm pretty sure this is racist... Somehow.

  • You go gurrrrrl herrod! lol

  • JCS meets Rocky Horror!! This is AMAZING!

  • They handled the last part of the song all wrong.

  • The best I've ever seen

  • Isn't he great?

  • Simply the best "Herod's Song" I've ever seen staged. Perfect blend of whimsy and freak show. A Phillipino Herod!! TOO much!

  • I love this version better than any Herod's Song I've ever come across. The singer is so talented and charismatic, and the choreography is absolute perfection. It seems like a really solid production of JCS. I saw the 2000 Broadway version, and it was crap. If this cast and crew were used it would have had a much longer run and better reviews.

I just have a quick question--in Germany, is it common for English musicals to be kept in English? I always assumed they translated them into German.

  • @teasipping Hm... it depends I guess... I'm pretty sure I saw some versions of The Phantom of the Opera sung in German, but there are some that are played as the original.

I'm not even sure if I saw just some demo songs of TPO or if it was the original thing (I know the movie was in German - Uwe Kröger sung it), but they ones I remember now are in English!

  • There is an audience you can hear them at the end during the 3 second pause

  • Such a great Herod, very different from all the others I've seen and a wonderful voice! :)

  • excelente interpretacion ¡¡¡¡...... tremenda coreografia ¡¡¡¡..... el publico un ASCO ¡¡¡¡

  • Wonderful interpretation indeed! ilarious but this guy can really sing. Great!

  • What the hell is he doing at 0:39?

  • @arenabrains Warming up his voice?

  • @arenabrains

I don't know what it was, but it was hilarious.

    "Minekha ninena minenak fipoxy nuh!"

  • OMFG I LOVED this, best one ive seen yet!

  • He looks like an Aztec

  • He would make a great Frankenfurter

  • shame about the vocals

  • well, you can clearly hear he's not a woman!

  • Well, apart from few stupid jokes that got tendency nowadays to appear in musicals, this guys performance is superb, from the Kings Herods ive seen (and ive seen quite a lot) he really has no competition.

  • This guy is absolutely hilarious as Herod. The only one that could top him was the guy who was wearing a hair piece and lost at the end of the song, showing off his bald head (I don't know if this was set up or not). He didn't even stop his performance. He just picked it up and actually threw it at the actor playing Jesus, belting him right in the face with it. The audience was cracking up.

  • @DarkAngel40

    Is that on Youtube?

  • @Warwickcain

As far as I know it is. It's been some time since I've seen it, so I couldn't tell you where to begin looking.

  • @DarkAngel40 If you're talking about the Dutch amateur, he and this one are my favorites. Rik Mayall strikes me as too creepy, while Josh Mostel's version is getting old and tired.

  • sencillamente genial, d este video me inspire para mi representacion en la vercion en español!!!!!!! jijji "jesucristo super estrella iguala"

  • I can never help but laugh when Herod(especially this one) gets to the 'Aren't you scared of me' bit. It's like...no....no I'm not. ;)

  • Worst. audience. ever. (hysterical/awesome Herod)

  • Okay, was this a professional DVD? Because either, the audio was only taken from the microphones, or this was THE WORST AUDIENCE EVER!!! I was so mad that no one was laughing. The character was hysterical.

  • @muzicmn166 I think this was filmed separately with no audience

  • anyone know where I can get a dvd copy of this production?

  • I think I like it. I'm more an actor than a singer, and I think this guy is the other way round. Very inventive and lightning-quick.

  • this Herod is sexy

  • This actor is awesome!

  • herod is so cute :D

  • I was totally expecting a "Yee hee!"

  • get out of my chair! hahaha

this actor took the funny side of herod and took it as a licence to kill :)

he is overdramatic but it only adds to the song and makes it his own, two tumbs up!

  • you make me happy

  • awesome! excellent! perfect!

  • he really overdoes it.

  • Definitely an A+ for originality and reinvention.

  • Sorry - I can't stand this performance, it's like something from a school play - and what on earth tune is she singing at the start? This can be a fantastic song - check out Rick Mayall's version - like an aristocratic vampire - fantastic.

  • @DarthHapperth

She????? Where is there a "she" singing in this?

  • Rik Mayall's version is so terrible, one of the main reason's why the JCS Millennium or w.e they call it , was so terrible. D'Abo (original Herod) was one of the best, and it wasn't like this, but really Mayall's is absolutely terrible. The whole 2000 cast was terrible. Renee Castle and Tony Vincent are the only two actual good singers in that whole mockery they called Jesus Christ Superstar.

  • that was just... hilarious. one of the best Herods ive seen. X3

  • LOL,

    Rock on!

    Go Herod!

  • love this song, great guy singing it as well well done

  • OK so question: Two places in this video (0:40 and 1:18) he does this gesture on his face....what is that?

  • OK so question: Two places in this video (0:40 and 1:18) he does this gesture on his face....what is that?

  • Sooo brillian!

  • "I'm getting bored now!" Hahah!

He's like an Aztec Cheif Herod. I love it!

  • 3:42 "Ano na? Na na na" lol Pinoy na pinoy!

  • This is by far y favorite performance of Herod's song...Amazing and I am a die hard fan of the 1973 movie...as well as performances of the play...Any Idea whee to get this full production?

  • I love this!! omg hes amazing!

  • pehton is filipino! wooohooo!!

  • moulin rouge would have been the ultimate setting, but this one is pretty good

  • He Is So The Best Herod!

Brings Alot Of Humor To The Character, More Than The Past Actors Who've Played Him!

  • @RandomHighSchoolKid Why Are You Typing Like This...

  • superb!

  • best version i have seen i <3 this herod x

  • he is great!!!! awesome!!!

  • LOL this is HILARIOUS XD

  • this made my day

  • wow, diese Aufführung hätte ich gern gesehen. Herodes ist wirklich 1A

  • He's an amazing Herod!

  • OMG - Great Interpretation!! Wow - this guy is superb! Best re-imagining I've heard/seen! I was blasted away - this guy is fantasitc!!!

  • Pehton (d one who played Herod) is my neighbor and childhood friend in Manuela Las Pinas Philippines....sure proud to be Pinoy

  • The most creative version of this number that I have seen. The backstroke is genius. Herod's a star.

  • such a good herod 5/5

  • this is hilarious at the begginig when he ses jesus he sounds exactly like paul o grady !!! lol

  • Oversinging too much

  • That's the very first thing I thought when I heard it.

  • Glad someone also noticed

  • right.. just at the begging x_x

  • Funniest singing ever.

  • he's like frank'n furter...

  • That's exactly what I said...

  • I agree he's over-singing. But I think it's part of the show's interpretation. Herod is suppose to be seen as flashy and over the top, with no sincere emotion about anyone. His upbeat apathy is suppose contrast Jesus' concern and downward spiral. This makes Herod seem more disturbed in my opinon. However the version with the "drop dead fred" guy is my fav. so far.

  • Rik Mayall. He did a good version. Jerome Pradon did a good Judas. He was also in Les Miz

  • Haha. Fred Johanson, who was Pilate in the version you're referring to, was in Les Miserables as well.... but I think they were in different productions.

  • If i know ALW, by making Herod like this he wanted to quote Verdi's style which was more or less this (on the death of a character, instead a "requiem style" music he used to put something more like an easy waltz), clearly transposed on modern music.

  • brilliant coreography and a brilliant voice

but I don't know if i hate it or love it. The emotions are kinda left behind in the process of making everything else perfect.

  • I like this version the best even though it's very flamboyant and doesn't really fit in with the style of this version of JCS.

  • best Herod ever!!

  • Singing is fantastic and dancing is BRILLIANT.. Not sure on the interpretation though.. Good performer though

  • wow, i think I'm in love with this version :D

  • LOl this was the funiest version of king Herod :-) liked it. But I also like Rik Mayalls psychopathic version to. the more scary Herod...

  • This is so fantastic! So funny!!

  • Cool, it's like an exotic Rocky Horror Picture Show version.

  • He has also some Freddie Mercury early style, in 70s

  • but I don't think his homosexuality is supposed to be interpreted as weakness.. flamboyant hedonism is more what Iget from it

  • From Wikipedia: "(Herod) Antipas has appeared in a large number of more recent representations of the passion of Jesus often, as in the films Jesus Christ Superstar and The Passion of the Christ, being portrayed as effeminate. The origin of this tradition may have been Antipas' manipulation by his wife Herodias, as well as Christ's description of him as a "fox" in Luke 13:32, using a feminine word in the original Greek."

  • deffos best version of it everr ! walk across my swimming pool funniest linee x

  • i think its funny that he sounds gayy

its awesomee i likee this version better :P

  • Also, lol @ "Get out of my chair!"

  • 0:40

    LMAO

  • that's great!

  • yup i agree 1 of the best version i've seen also...

  • One of the best versions i've seen so far, but the other ones are also very good of course :P

  • Wow this is wonderful!!

  • this version is much better

  • at the end, the two gay characters figthing for the front position in stage is just funny!!! LOL!!!

  • i always hated the original version of this song. But Pehton´s so great, he´s funny and his voice is the best i´ve ever ever ever heard...and who cares if he´s gay or not? his voice is incredibly amazing, and that´s what matters..

  • What the heck was going on at 00:40. That was mental! o_O

  • That was...Sexy.......

  • He is like cartmann

  • It's one of my favorite shows and i could talk it up for hours but there's something just fundamentally WRONG about how Herod is usually played. "Homosexuality is a weakness, especially among rulers" is always what i get from it. The "Gay-Face" stereotype Herod needs to be retired already.

  • lol it's musical. no offence, but lots of the actors are gay.

    lol'd

  • I understand that but it just feels a little tacky to me. there's a difference between a gay actor reading as gay and a gay actor who's "gayness" is intentionally played up for a gag.

  • well i have to agree!

  • it doesnt matter to me... the act is great and thats enought

  • Then you should LOVE Rick Mayall's interpretation! Check out King Herod's Song from JCS 2000.

  • The real Herod was probabily a drag queen.

  • This is the best King Herod ever! I love this version.

  • i like this version, the costumes especially.

  • i still laugh every time i see this :)

  • OMG THIS IS HILARIOUS check check loln the dancing mint XD

  • that is such a cool version! i actually love that guy!

  • Brilliant

  • SUPERB!

  • best version yet. I Also Heard Jack Black Did a Version. I Wish i Coulda Seen That One

  • best version of this song i've seen!

  • I know very well this musical, and this is the best version of Herod's song that I had seen!!!!the protagonist is very very good!!!!!

  • this herod is absoloutley awesome! he's almost as good as the staging we've got for our version of this song nxt year!!

  • i don't mean this in a bad way, it's nice even, but this staging of JCS sounds more pop than rock... or maybe pop rock, lol, i love it!

  • i think this is the greatest (funniest) version lol ha ha

  • lol get out of my chair lol

    lol jesuss lol

he soundslike paul'o grady wen he says jesus

  • Lol, I remember HATING this rendition when I first saw it. But it grows on you, its probably in my fav 3 non-73 versions.

  • Dude, you so owned! This Herod is the most amazing thing I've seen in awhile! XD

  • Wow he's good, kind of reminds me of Tim Curry in Rocky Horror Picture Show.

  • i was just thinking that! XD

  • loving it - fantastic ideas, hilarious scene x,D

  • He reminds me of Gok Wan!

    He's really good!

  • awesome interpretation....5 stars for originality! :)

  • I love this so! Great version

  • for a guy whose supposed to play a king, he's a gigantic queen!

  • haha. Thats the point. lol

  • I can't get my jaw off the floor... that was frikin hilarious!!!

  • Own it all incredeble

  • EXELENT I LOVED IT

  • this is the best interpretation for me so far. it's so fun and insane, i love it.

  • This guy is...pretty skilled.....and that's a soft expression...

  • wow. flamboyantly gay, thy name is Herod.

  • What a great singer.

  • Agreed. This performance needed a good voice, otherwise it would have descended into mediocrity.

  • I don't dig that R'n'B crap he does in the beginning but pretty good otherwise.

  • That was awesome!

I really want to see Simon Zealotes!

  • hahaha most gay Pilate EVAR!!!

  • Ah sorry I mean King Herod.

    Although Pilate is also often

    depicted as rather gay.

  • King Herod, you mean. He is supposed to be gay. He does it so well. ^^

  • Its just...its so gloriously insane.

  • this kind of reminds me of the jerry springer show or something lol

  • best Herod ever he's funny
