I think that Feldman was really stuck in the middle, while trying to be there for his friend and support him, he had his bitch of a wife to deal with too. He just got enraged at the fact that Haim disrespected his wife. When they roughed each other up a litte Feldman realized that it was his friend and that he wouldn't take it so far as to hit him. I don't think he could he had too much love for him.
