generally speaking native species dont do to much damage since the other animals have adopted and prevent overpopulation which causes problems like what you mentioned. however, the issue is that with fishing it changes the balance so that lampreysare more likely to go for smaller fish upsetting the food chain.
yes i realize the ones in the great lakes arent native but we do have native creek lampreys.
@discodarth though they do eat particles as a larva realize that they are introduced species that are not native to their current habitats. Their feeding habits as an endoparisite (adult) means that any fish they want can be their food. Not to mention, they have no natural predators. The fish have no defence mechanisms against them and because of their fast reproductive rate, it makes them great enemies. Pretty soon they'll become roaches of freshwater.
by removing the lamprey, many animal species would go extinct, as they depend on the lampreys for food. Really, no animal should be wiped out completely.
parasitic, as the one you see is feeding off of the fish. They hang on to a fish, drill a hole in that fish, and then constantly suck that fish's blood.

I know, I'm just saying that they are in Canada.
discodarth 2 years ago
Dude
They have been in canada for over 15 years!
They do NOT ruin rivers, and are in fact helping the environment.
They eat up most of the poisonous food garbage on the bottom that could be potentially dangerous to other fish.

Naw man, I was talking about the carp.
Little did I realize that I was completely wrong. But whenever I see comments made (1 year ago) I usually let them sit.

the ones that have invaded places like Lake Superior due to shipping... I wouldn't mind seeing them go.
