As much as I fully support a Cut, Cap, and Balance amendment, I just can't trust our representatives enough to fully enforce it (or even see it through the entire amendment process). I trust Rand, if left personally to him, would, but he's fighting an uphill battle against the ruthless majority of neo-conservatives and unprincipled liberals. Thus, I'm against raising the debt ceiling, under any circumstances.
this interviewer is quite good. i like that she allowed paul to fully explain his positions. that's a rarity for lamestream news. i've seen her in some other vids and she seems pretty balanced. cnn at least has 1 decent person.
Do you think our pandering puppet politicians even give a damn about how they screw the american people out of their wealth? Or how they even sinking this country into the ground? Both Democrats and Republicans are at fault and could care less about us who voted them in.
Rand Paul and few others are what is left that do give a damn.
This is why the media can build up candidates and destroy them. We get a Paul on the media ONCE a day and are happy. They spread lies against the Pauls probably 100 times a week.
I remember John McCain's "miracle comeback" in 2008 campaign, they mentioned that the previous week he had only 100 media mentions, then the comeback week he had 1500 mentions. They apparently never thought that his "comeback" was merely the result of the media mentions, not that the mentions "followed" his comeback.
I'm especially proud that it is the Freshman Senator from the State of Kentucky where I have resided the last 10 yrs that is becoming a significant and regular spokesman on all the major national news outlets. Yes, yes, it is quite a stretch calling CNN a news outlet. But to be fair, Senator Rand Paul is getting important messages out to an audience that may well not be friendly to the message but will hear it and possibly consider it nonetheless.
@maskedphrogg What's more important is when he goes on ABC or CBS. The vast bulk of uninformed, Homer Simpsons who brainlessly obey the government don't even pay for cable half the time, so say going on Fox is often preaching to the (2 million people) choir. The fact is, news channels as it is are not very popular. Only 1 million watch CNN for example. That's 1% of the electorate.
To reach out you have to reach places TV can't. That's where you come in, it's up to US to get the message out.
@Cyrus255 It's a lot higher than 1%. Children can't vote and many adults don't vote. The people who watch cable news regularly are engaged and act as megaphones. Most Americans just aren't engaged and learn what they do know from those who are engaged. The effect of cable news viewers is greater than you think.
but CNN is piped into a lot of retail outlets giving addtl immeasurable viewers
I see that as much a problem as a benefit, but a debate for another day.
Like his father Ron Paul I've been talking up libertarian ideas most of my life. Governance will be empty if we don't participate individually at the lowest level of governance - the individual
I'm right there with ya, it is a duty to discuss topics of importance with family, friends and neighbors.
You say not to participate in government but to take over the firms that participate, that's what manipulation boils down to. Ahem, that would be participating in government by proxy. How is that different from participating directly?
@kmg501 The vast majority of Americans support Israel. The Pauls support Israel, they just don't want American tax dollars subsidizing Israel, but neither do I. As Paul said it causes a dependency on American aid and plus we give 5x more foreign aid to Israel's enemies.
Why don't you go serve Obama and the other "anti-colonialists". He hates Israel and all "colonialists" (a fancy term for white people, cuz it is never applied to the Turks or Chinese who "colonized" much of the world).
No, the vast majority of us do not support the nation or the people who are destroying us. Israel is the worst thing that has ever happened to the U.S. And if you really think that Obama hates Israel you are either a complete fool or a disinformation agent.
@kmg501 Most jewish people aren't Zionists much less most of Congress. The problem is that Jews make up about 3% of the population but give incredible amount so money to political parties--especially the D's. Then there are the evangelicals and the power they possess in the R party. Politicians are also afraid to speak out against foreign aid to Israel--with the exception of the Pauls--for fear of being branded anti-semitic. The Pauls want to end all foreign-aid to every country.
Other than the number of Jewish people who are Zionists I agree with what you say. You are quite right about the evangelicals. They, like the lower tiers of Jews are completely propagandized on Israel being a friend to America which is really just astonishing when people examine the history. But that is the power of propaganda for you.
Please choose your words carefully Rand. You talk about not raising taxes on businesses - OK that's good. But if you allow a tax increase or close the "loopholes" someone like me enjoys instead (the WORKING middle class), I will go especially ballistic. For example, I you let them put the mortgage deduction revocation on table, all hell will break loose. People like me in the NY Metro area will be forced out of our homes...And the economy beware!!
I dont necessarily oppose a balanced budget amendment but what exactly do supporters think it will do? Since we have the 1st Amendment there has never been a law that violated it? Since we have the 4th Amendment there has never been a law that violated it?
As a nation we have been living far beyond our means for many years. It is both the Dem's and Republican's fault for not stopping the reckless spending and overly generous entitlements years ago. I had high hopes that we finally where going to put a halt to it, but now compromise is in the air! IF we ever get a balanced budget amendment I will owe Sen. Paul and Sen. Lee an apology.
@timberlax No you can stop being a Senator when you run and get elected for president, then the Governor will try to sell that vacant seat and end up in jail like what happened with Barry's vacant seat.

@maskedphrogg Don't participate in government. Participate in what controls the government. Take over the corporations that manipulate it.

The President hasn't been doing his constitutional job. Instead, he's decide to take on the unconstitutional job of starting illegal wars.
His next job should be cleaning jail cells after his impeachment.
