I remember being no more than 5 y/o hearing this on the car radio of our family's 1967 Ford Ranch Wagon on a trip to see family in southern New Jersey while on the approach to the Delaware Memorial Bridge and thinkin' it was a happenin' tune.
I've been a fan of ND since i was a child but ive started to learn the lyrics as of late because my wife of 26 years is named Rosie and this song depicts to some extent our relationship. Thanks to motowngirl65 and The x Doctorx for giving the tips on the origin of the song
Ha! I always thought it was 'Cracklin' Rose you're a stalwart woman...' What a shame, I always liked that lyric - kinda talking about her loyalty and strength. So it turns out she's a bottle of wine....
@pennylonglane I like that. I used to think the lyric was "Cracklin' Rose you're a stubborn woman" Which I kinda liked being a stubborn woman myself ;)
Hmmm.. I still think this song is about Neil Diamond getting a venereal disease from a "Store Bought Woman" at a train stop, hence the itchy twilight.
Hmmm.. I still think this song is about Neil Diamond getting a venereal disease from a "Btore Bought Woman" that he picked up at a train stop, hence the itchy twilight.
yeah he is talking about a wine. its called crackling rosie basically like champange but not as fizzy. they used to drink the wine at night and hoping for a woman. I only certain parts about this song
@ThexDoctorx Canadian Aboriginals, not "Native Americans." Otherwise, you heard the story correctly. Neil Diamond spent time in Northern Canada He told the origin of Cracklin' Rosie to David Wild of Rolling Stone Magazine, and has since spoken of it on television. I remember he passed through Sudbury, Ontario--about 1969. Cracklin' Rosie came out in 1970. The ethnic flavour of most of that album (Taproot Manuscript) however, is African.

He's singing about a bottle of cracklin rose wine - isn't he?
motowngirl65 2 years ago 25
Yes, he is.
Something about a Native American Tribe that, if the men couldn't get women that night, they would drink Cracklin' Rosie wine.
That's how it all started.
Lol.
