@Killacelt Bartók left Hungary and lived as a stranger in the US because he could not bear Hitler and his like-minded henchmen in Hungary. He wrote this piece of work in utter despair because of his and his county's fate ...
You bet it does!! Performed this on Saturday with my orchestra and, thankfully, it went really well, but it was quite an undertaking for the opening performance of the season, what with everyone feeling a bit rusty from summer holidays! Also did the Liszt piano concerto no. 1 and Kodaly 'Dances of Galanta'....but the Liszt felt a bit under-rehearsed....too much Bartok practice, I think!!
@chainstoking If you're ever around West London, come along to any of the concerts! We're now doing Shostakovich's 10th symphony and Brahms' Variations on a Theme by Haydn! :-)
Thanks, I'll bear it in mind, although I do usually work myself Saturdays. Playing these pieces is excellent experience for you. Do you have any of the "Orchestral Excerpts" books? In the profession there is often only time enough to rehearse the parts difficult for ensemble. That is why us Brits are known for our sight reading abilities!
@chainstoking Unfortunately, no, I've not heard of the "Orchestral Excerpts" books. Are we really known for our sight-reading abilities? That's very good to know, especially with my grade 8 exam coming up...! :-)
Dude looks like he could've been Hitler's right hand man.
