@bentheoverlord - As previously stated, you might be able to mod your PS2 as the best way. Also, looks like an Abyss port for the Nintendo 3DS is likely. Could be another option.
Though, you did write this comment a year ago - so you probably knew of these things.
@MrInsanity25 - (1/3) No worries. When people are referring to games coming to PAL regions, or games that are PAL - they are referring to what regions the game was released in.
PAL Regions include Europe, the UK, Australia/NZ, and I believe some parts of South America. The major opposite to PAL is NTSC (like the US and Canada, and other parts of South America)
Some consoles are region locked. Like if you buy a PAL system, you can't buy an NTSC game and play it on your PAL system, as it won't >
@AdamBoy64 - (2/3) < let you. The opposite is also true - PAL games won't play on systems bought in NTSC countries (like the US)
Sometimes, (and the original Tales of the Abyss on PS2 is a good example) games don't come to PAL regions at all. That is, people in Europe/Uk/Australia/NZ can't play them at all.
PAL Owners (or those who bought systems in Europe/UK/Aus/NZ) are generally worse off as games almost always make it to NTSC Regions,
@AdamBoy64 - (3/3) but there are quite a few that never make it to PAL Regions. Which annoys gamers in PAL Regions. Because people in the UK for example, don't always get the same games people in the US do.
I like this and the original. But even with this as an instrumental version, I could instantly tell it was from anime the first time I heard it. It's brilliant nevertheless.
Love both songs, but it just seems kinda wrong to bring over Karma and simply remove the lead singer. >.> Might just be me, but it doesn't seem right somehow...
yeah i was kinda thinking that too, it almost makes you want to think that america dosnt want you to know that its from japan. but of course when you watch enough anime it very easy to tell
I believe that there would have been some kind of copyright issue or something with bringing over Karma with its lyrics, which is why they did an instrumental cover of it for the North American release.
Personally, I like both equally, but there was a video that combined both the japanese and NA versions that was even better.
Don't give up yet. I've been hearing and seeing places taking pre-orders for April 2008.
I think the Japanese vocals in the English release wouldn't have worked. I prefer the English version, but the Japanese one is still good. I'd rather watch the 'Karma' video clip by 'Bump of Chicken' for the full thing.
Personally I don't like the japanese version of the opening. The vocals are weird. Maybe it's just me but I generally prefer instrumental only versions of alot of songs.
@Fullmetalboy I like the vocal version better as well, but i do think that this version is pretty cool. Now if they would just combine the two and everyone would be happy. I think the guitar would fit nicely with the japanese version, but thats just me.
Tales of Abyss has a better Battle system... but when you get right down to alot of the material of this game (not the LMBS, Abyss has a dif. version of LMBS) it is a symphonia clone. :/
Look at Luke and Zelos? (how they look) and Guy-Raine?(how they act?)
You have to remember that Tales of the Abyss is /kinda/ intentionally tied to Tales of Symphonia. It's like Future Symphonia. It takes place a couple thousand years afterwards, and some of the locations are placed similar, the moves look the same with different names or even are the same.(Light Spear is just one example.) Not to mention the character attributes. You never know- Luke might be a future equally spoiled and immature also red-headed relative of Zelos... As for Guy and Raine... dunno.
Luke doesn't have a difficult past at all. It's Asch that does.
Zelos wasn't really "spoiled" either. That was rather a guise to leave some ambiguity to his real feelings. If you played the game, you'd know what I'm talking about, so I won't spoil it.
well i like this version far better than the japanese. the vocals are horrible and the english version sounds more clean and has awesome guitar riffs.
but dont get me wrong, its not because of the japanese language. im a fan of Laruku, mucc, ajikan etc. since years so i do like japanese vocals normally, but in this song i find the voice just distracting and out of place.
I sort of agree. But the only reason I like the amarican version is the remade sound. Listen to each one and you can tell they are different somewhat.
Well, I guess I'll put in my two cents on the subject... I'll tell you now that I prefer this version to the Japanese version. The reason being that when the Japanese version cuts to the singing, everything else seems drowned out by the singer's nasal voice (and I still think it's good, but not as good as this). This version is just so much more harmonious and emotional, and it doesn't subtract from the characters' emotions, like the singing does.
I like the song with the lyrics personally, but I feel the instrumental version fits better with the video. Something I did manage to notice is that the instrumental version is different from the instrumental section of the japanese version, IE, this version is a little more pumped and has more beats and notes.
I like it better this way, at least for the purpose of the opening theme. I dunno, maybe it's just because I got used to hearing it without vocals, but when I watched the Japanese opening I found the words jarring. It's the music that's beautiful about this song, not the lyrics.
And of course, he was just commenting on the song. Just because someone likes something made for/in another country better doesn't mean they are dissing that country. You are a fool for thinking so.
Christ, I hate idiots like you. (Digital) Oh noes! Someone likes the American version of the song better than the Japanese version! You suck! All Americans always hate on other countries! Oh the irony, it almost hurts.
America gets bashed way more often by ignorant foreigners than they bash others because there are more of them. (obviously) I hate people who act like all Americans are ignorant, even though they are being completely hypocritical.
I actually prefer this version. In my opinion, the vocals just don't flow with the opening animation all that well. I like listening to it, though. It's a good song.

Niether opening is better than the other, they merely have the one thing that's missing from the other. NA opening needs the vocals, REDONE mind you and the JP opening needs the AWESOME guitar riffs in this opening.

I personally think it would sound better with the Japanese vocals, because even if we can't understand them, it sounds better than the guitar, which repeats itself too much. And MrDartz, whether we complained or not, it would have made it here either way. And you can expect to see more, because they're getting popular
While I do miss the lyrics, on a musical level, this is actually better. And yes, if they tried to sing a translation, it would sound horrible; just look at "Bubblegum Crisis". *Shivers*
i prefer this version a lot more to the lyrical version, mainly because i dont know what the lyrics are about and the music speaks for itself...am tabbing this out on guitar as i write this XD
I'm personally quite fond of the lyricless version. I find it more fitting and think that the emotions are better shown through the music by itself. But that might be my bias, as without the lyrics, Anise and Jade's part seems a lot more special, rather than just some chorus. So personally, I'm very happy with the change, but I would not have minded the one with Japanese also. As long as there isn't a lame English version (like they did with Wild ARMs 4), I should be fine.
i mean it's ok, the song it's the same, the american corporation took out the japanesse voices 'cuz the most part of the americans doesn't speak japanese, and they did it not 'cuz the money....can you imagine how would the song sound if it were translated?...i mean...knowing a little about the translation...it would had sound horrible...so don't be so mad
it's normal to us to be mad with namco for that, but just take a look, it's at least the same game...i mean, also they added the 3 lost hi-ougis from natalie, guy and a boss,
Like KajitaniEizan said, I think money is the factor....but not doing voice-over in skits is just horrible...just when I expected that it will be cool whenever i watch skits but noooo, there is no voice... Oh well, we can't do anything about this, but I like the opening even without vocals ^^

I would like to mend a mistake I made in my post: I said Symphonia and this were the exception to the Tales of/orchestrated American openings; Abyss' opening is NOT orchestrated (so only Symphonia is the exception).
