Strength in Numbers, finally I get to see the PBS performance again. I think the first time I saw them on the PBS special "Lonesome Pine Special"...I know they appeared on Austin City Limits too, and would love to get my hands on both shows.
Thanks for posting this, it really gives me a taste of home.
Great tune, sweet bass solo. It's cool to see a young Bela Fleck (pre-Flecktones) jammin on the banjo and there is something hilarious about the guy in the middle rocking out so hard with the mandolin.
Yeah and to think there is still no one who can top these guys. Just think of the talent here! There were, and still are, very far ahead of their time.

Okay... You must be a total troll. First of all Sam Bush is arguably the best mandolin player of all time. yes, he rocks more than your average bluegrass picker - that is his appeal. Secondly, it's a bass, not a cello.
Finally, it's spelled 'douche' and I think that term is much more applicable to Coldplay, Elliot Yamin, and Nicleback - all of whom are listen on your favorites.
I am sure you are a nice guy, but you should check out Sam Bush before flaming him in such a disrespectful way.
that guy in the middle with crazy hair and a mini guitar is waaaay ahead of his time... he should be rocking to AC-DC or Ozzie or Rob Zombie hehe... he's great.
Strength in Numbers was so hot! Thanks for posting!!! I can't believe that they only made one CD though! (Thank God I have that!) Oh, one more thing you should know: Bela turns "50" on 10 July'08! If you want to send him a B-day card...here's the address: David Bendett Artists, Inc., 2431 Briarcrest Rd., Beverly Hills, CA 90210. (This is Bela's Manager and he will see that he gets it) Thanks!
Bela is great however he has nothing on Alison Brown. When you get to these boys level there is really no one better they all developed into their own style which is what a musician strives for better is really not the right word we are hung on that. Music is not a sport its an art form, listen enjoy and learn. Happy picking if your not a picker enjoy the all the great sounds.
This music of these lads will be studied some time like the greats in the past.
I love the way Sam Bush moves around, he's getting into it. It just looks silly when the rest of his band stands still, but these guys move enough where it doesn't.
the reason everyone else stands still is because they're actually PLAYING their instrument. Sam bush has done nothing impressive in anything I've heard or seen him do. He's really good at making that "chick" sound though...
The way Sam Bush plays the mandolin really bugs me, he moves around way too much, but he's still really good at it. Bela Fleck is probably the best banjo player ever. Yeah, I would even go as far as say he's better than Earl.
Jerry Douglas and Sam Bush are 2 of my favorite musicians. They can take their instruments and play anything from hard driving bluegrass to country all the way to rock. And blend it all in and create things. Very rare in music.
As for me, I grew up watching Hee Haw every week and have always enjoyed the musical genre of Bluegrass. This was fun to watch and enjoy.

That dude with the mullet and the stone-washed jeans should look into decaf. And from 1:33 til about 1:40 Fleck is a dead ringer for Trevor Rabin.
