All the studies ever done into ETS pooled together show no significant risk from second hand smoke, and we must remember that most of these studies have a bias to finding risk, this study produced by the wealthy anti-smoking machine, WHO being a paid up member, it is a pity that these studies do not have to reach a relative risk ratio of 3 before anything can be declared harmful..

People want to ban smokers because of "second hand smoke" yet there are lots more deaths from alcohol. Make alcohol illegal first if you want cigaretttes illegal. An easier solution is make it illegal to put the chemicals causing death in cigarettes. If cigarettes are made illegal then alcohol should be too.

Mother in law smoked all her life. She was found unresponsive last week was admitted into the hospitol some reason she was not processing air low oxygen she was one of those die hard smokers that gave everyone hell about not providing equality to smokers since she got out the hospitol she has not smoked a single cigarette it scared her so much and realized she could die real soon.

I just think non-smokers whine too much. Alcohol kills more innocent people than cigarettes but people dont attack alcohol like they do cigarettes. Ban alcohol first since it kills so many more innocent people then you have a reason to ban cigarettes.

@The1stPoster Alcohol may not travel in the air affecting people but it does travel down the road. Also, theres alot worse things in the air than cigarette smoke. Automobile emmissions, factory polutants, pesticdes, etc...which can cause lung disease. Everyone just wants to blame smokers though. A simple solution would be to force tobacco companies to remove the toxic chemicals that are in the cigarette. Then smokers and non-smokers could all be happy.

UK is the best. Outlawing smoking in cars... here's something very real and common... driving on a hot day, you roll your windows, every few minutes you can catch second hand smoke coming INto the car... you step out of your car in a parking lot, you catch a wiff and you look around, and you don't see them, but there are MORE smokers.

Its like you can't breath comfortably in society anymore because of these self destructive addicts.

Secondhand smoke nearly killed me and changed my life forever. I had a massive tumor in my chest and cysts in my lung. They closed off my upper left lobe (lung) because of it. When I say I cannot be around smoke I am very serious, too many smokers don't realize the repercussions of their smoking to other people and are rude and inconsiderate. You can poison yourself if you choose but don't do it to others.

Example: A solo mother on social welfare who smokes is more likely to spend more on smoking now than using that money for nappies, food etc. $12.00 for a 20 pack of smokes in NZ and our government hikes prices on cigarettes every 3 months to deter people from smoking. Latest statistics from AC Nelson have shown that more people have taken up smoking since the price hike. It does not work and raising tax on cigarettes is totally based on greed!
