  • my dad owned a Land Cruiser Prado 2 , the model before 2000 , brute force offroader . Now a days toyota makes bendable plastic SUV's which don't deserve to be called Land Cruiser. The Old ones were pure steel , an accident won't do no harm to the SUV.

  • Still have my landcruiser has 294k miles on it and still runs like new!!!!!

  • Seriously. Did he just call the g-wagon ugly? And what is the range rover then? The merc is the best looking out of the bunch! And the best at off roading! The range rover didn't have a nice interior? And it would have had terrible build quality. Mercedes had fantastic build quality! Jermy Clarkson is the most over-rated car reviewer in the world. And that's the same for top gear too.

  • Do this send all the old G- wagons and Land cruisers to the US and we will send you back all the rovers.

  • I have a 99 4runner with 287k and it runs like it did in 99

  • I'd take a Fj60 or Fj62 Landcruiser over a range Rover any day.... I wish Toyota would go back to making the hard core Landcruisers instead of the little plastic ones they make now....but that's in America, I notice the Europeans and Austrailians have all sorts of diffrent models that we don't get here in the U.S.....

  • G Wagon is the best. 3 locking diffs, wont roll over easily, can take tons of abuse and still keep running. Travellled 1500km straight with 1 broken piston, engine had virtually no oil in it near the end. no other car could do that. An MB engine is probably the only engine able to survive 1 million KM. Mercedes Benz makes the best cars in the world, simply unbeatable: class, originality, reliability and reputation all in one. I have to take my hat off to those wonderful Germans!

  • @hotbegreturns Sounds like your talking about the landcruiser to me

  • @blobrob85 nope im talking about the g wagon. you only believe it when you own one. g wagons are something special altogether- after all, they were intended for the armed forces!

  • @hotbegreturns I agree with you that the G wagon is a great truck, but so is the Landcruiser. Whatever the Landcruiser lacks in class and sophistication, it makes up for it in brute force and unstopability. 1 million KM is a walk in the park for an heavy duty Landcruiser like the 80 series that's why NGOs use them in remote areas where there are no roads. We could argue all day long about which one is better, but there is no point as they are both in an entirely different league from the LR.

  • @blobrob85 I totally agree. And when I said 1,000,000 km I meant minimum if the engine is looked after as it is probably gonna cover more as long as it is maintained well. It all boils down to personal taste, and I prefer the G wagon. Don't even bother with Land Rovers, they are complete and utter junk/

  • OMG, a steam powered range rover!

... Jeremy Clarkson used to talk way too fast...

  • he looks so gay back then.....

  • @shovelniron still looks gay

  • That's one of the things I like about European cars, you have a choice of gas or diesel for fuel.

  • The land cruiser is used by street gangs and drug cartels. I'd go for the Range Rover or the G Wagon.

  • global warming bullshit it wasnt a issue at that time.lol

  • land cruiser foreverrrrr in south america they rule the roads!

  • after 20 years, cca 70-80% of merc Gs 60% of toyotas and less than 20% or RRs are still on road/off road driving. that says a bit.

of thease 3 merc is best, toyota is cheapest, and renga, well...consumes most of fuel...

  • I will take the Toyota. Not just because it's reliable. But because you could park it beside any modern car and it wont look out of place.

  • I'd rather push my Range Rover than drive a Landcruiser. Sorry, I respect the Land Cruiser for it's reliability and off road accomplishments, but they just don't do it for me.

  • My land cruiser has 187k and runs strong.

  • TOYOTA, FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!

  • @landothecapo mow that you said that, it will..

  • RR until the electronics leave you stranded. Seriously, you can't really compare reliability, LC all the way. There is a reason why as JC says Toyota has basically taken the market away in Africa and most places in Asia. The G wagon is hideous. It's not called the nazi-wagon for no reason.

  • land cruiser is the best allways

  • the European cars are nice but horribly unreliable ... absolutely no peace of mind at all. There start breaking down around the 50k mi mark without fail. Doesn't matter whether it is a BMW, MB, RR, Jag, speaking from personal experience here. On a long trip I will take my Land Cruiser that has 120k mi on it rather than the RR which has 59k mi on it. What good is a car that keeps breaking down after all?

  • @dlsmdie

cool story bro. having owned Japanese, British and American in my family, I will never willingly go back to Japanese

  • Top gear always jerk off all over land rover. Always.

  • Isn't it about time we all thanked celticmadliam for his classic uploads. God damn it man well done! And thanks!

  • @m1accorder I'm assuming that you're American. 1. What is wrong with him being pro Britain? It's called being proud. 2. Britain make shit cars? I'm sorry what have America done? Muscle cars that going round a corner at more than 40mph you would lose the back end and end up in a ditch? Making the car that is responsible for speed limits? No decent cars, at all except from ford which most are sent over here in bits to be assembled, have come out of America. And if you say dodge or Chevrolet I'm

  • anyone notice that it takes a little bit longer for the Range Rover to start each time, and it also pisses out white smoke from the exhaust where the other two don't? Having said that I would probably take the Range Rover over the Toyota Yawn-Box and the Mercedes Look-at-me Trophy.

  • @te71se The Range Rover puts out the white 'smoke' - its actually water vapour, as it is fitted with a petrol engine. The Toyota and the Mercedes are fitted with diesels, which do not put out vapour when they're cold due to how the engine works.. Every petrol car on the market no matter who makes it will put out vapour when the air is cold - hence why there is often a trail of drips following a petrol car when its driven from cold. Its not a malfunction.

  • @jameswalker99 actually the Mercedes in this comparison is a 3 liter 6 cylinder petrol engine.

  • Land Rover. Been making mechanics out of drivers since 1948!

  • Jeremy sounds so much posher then. btw range rover not the best off roader......DEFENDER all the way!!!

  • Jeremy sounds so much posher then.

  • YEA GO RANGE ROVER!!!

  • I have a 18 year old Gwagon with 430,000 miles on it.

  • The Land Cruiser/Lexus LX 570 is the best, most reliable, highest value, most capable SUV on the planet, bar none.

  • Jezza sounds sooooo posh!

  • gotta love the music at the end.

  • I have a Land Cruiser. 15 years old with 300,000 miles on it.....UNSTOPPABLE

  • @Faunce07 17 years and +500000 kilometers

    Its still unstopable

  • One more, about the engine:

when u go outside city centre or something, which one of the brand u still see having their 1970s or 1980s car still running smoothly?

toyota? range rover (land rover)? or Mercedes?

Where u see the old defenders/range are all stood still in junk yard, 1980s toyota had been scrapped, mercedes 280, 220, 280GE, 280S still running carrying CEO / family everywhere.

speaking of built-quality, toyota is a joke. speaking of reliabilty, Rover is a laugh.

    BUY MERCEDES!

  • @jakartans

So CEOs travel with their family with Mercedes from the 80s, according to your statement? Land Cruisers and G Wagons are beasts that are reliable. But good luck doing work on Mercedes yourself.

  • When someone is ahead for the question: which one is the best?

lemme give u a simple mathematic:

In 1970s there is one range rover (RR), one Landcruiser (LC) and 1 Gwagen

in 1980s RR & LC looks changed once, Gwagen stay the same.

in 1990s RR changed & LC changed twice, Gwagen FACELIFTED once.

in 2000s RR changed once, facelift twice & LC changed twice, Gwagen facelifted once more.

from 1979-2011, which one is TIMELESS Luxury?

  • The g Wagen looks absolutely timeless

  • @CochiTravels

Your dumb the land cruiser Shits all over the range rover.

  • How silly of Clakson to define the looks of a G-Wagen of "hideous" and "tractor looking". 20 years after the G remains unchanged and everyone with cash and taste is queueing to own one. Well done Jeremy!

  • @mortinsonoffice

    True!

  • @mortinsonoffice jeremy is stupid. I would never that that faggot seriously. He's pro everything British even when the world knows they're shit. Land Rover and Jaguar are leakaholic and absolutely unreliable. They perform great but are not meant for regular people that don't have some serious cash reserve in their bank account. This is why most of those buying new Brits vehicles tend to get rid of them after 3-5 years before SHTF.

  • thats one young clarkson

  • i hate to say it but i'd bet that its the merc and the landcruiser that are still on the road today.

  • and whats he on about , Jags of yesteryear were just as pooorly built and unreliability and over priced

  • The build quality of the range rover is pathetic and although clarky says you could see the queen pulling up in one that is only because she would be slammed for pulllig up in the far far superior jap or German cars ... Nice to see somethings don't change , clarkson still chats bubbles

  • @scoobystu ye but the range rover is more majestic and it looks far better but i will admit reliability is a problem.

  • what a load of rubbish , the only reason to buy a range rover over the other two would be to be patriotic!!! The range rover has no proper difflocks , shocking reliability , rots horrendously , the V8 hates any kind of moisture and the diesel version way under powered .

  • The Cruiser and the G-Wagen are both FAR better 4wd's...

  • its amazing how dark it is...in all those old top gear episodes. And they havent bothered to turn the headlights on

  • I'm surprised I didn't see this video on the net when this first went to air. Oh, that's right, the net hadn't been invented yet.

  • Rage Rover?

  • @mage1724

Never noticed that. I'm suprised no one else noticed it! Thanks though.

  • @celticmadliam No problem. ^^

  • Land Cruiser VX90 all the way. We have one and it's just brilliant!

  • Your wrong the landcruiser is reliable and the range rover breaks down every 4 miles

  • @shanobi95

yeah. but at least the range rover can get through anything. so it's still ahead anyway.

  • @shanobi95 I know people are going to be angry at me but it is true, many people get carried out by what they see in movies, toyota is by far the most reliable car there is no g-wagon or denfender that can match it

  • @shanobi95 But Land Cruisers looks horrible man, while the G wagon and Range Rover looks absolutely fantastic, brilliant, luxury just a piece of art.

For Land Cruisers? Apart from FL40 and 70 others are totally Shit.

  • @shanobi95 oh so true, toyota for the win

  • @shanobi95 i would still have the range rover though

  • @shanobi95 haha every 4 miles!!

  • 20 years on and the Mercedes is still worth good money.

  • RAGE ROVER

  • Comment removed

  • the best 4x4's don't have much/any electric systems !!

  • Pffft... My 1992 Land Cruiser with a 4.0L petrol engine will effortlessly humiliate any vehicle you could care to name (with the exception of a short wheelbase Jeep that's had several hundred thousand dollars of modification done to it... but still).

  • Another great Top Gear video! I love these reviews of luxury suvs and luxury sedans.

  • the g wagon looks the same then as it does now....good job mercedes

  • @desimunda116 what about range rover?

  • @desimunda116

    and looks good as always

  • @desimunda116

u can grab a 1985 old 280GE or 1992 300GE like the one Jeremy drove above, and u still end up having the same interior space, windows, wheelbase, wheelspace, cabin, trunk, engine room and doors like today's 130,000 dollars G55 AMG.

  • thank you for the upload
