Now don't get me wrong, I think Damon was a great replacement for Eddie. He had a very crisp, clear falsetto, but Eddie's voice is just MAGIC to me. He had this unique lil southern twang wihen he sang that Damon doesn't have.

Richard should have been inducted intol the R&R Hall of fame along with Paul, Eddie, Otis, David, Melvin, & Dennis. He was with them in some fashion from the beginning; before David or Dennis. Richard was a member of Otis Williams & the Distants. He was on stand-by to for the Temps whenever they needed him, esp. whe Paul started having his problems. He finally got his big chance to to "officially join the Tempts in 1971. He was a full fledged member for 22 years. He should have been honored.

I thought I was the only one that felt that way. Richard certainly haven't gotten his due credit for being there on and off, in one way or another since the beginning even before they became the Temptations. Even before David, Eddie, Paul, Melvin or Dennis was in the picture. Otis and Melvin are the only two that has been in the group longer than Richard. It's ashame that he wasn't honored in the hall of fame. And I'm sure Richard feels slighted about his contributions to the group.

@dienglee That is very true, at the time this came out I thought it was Eddie! We knew Ruffinhad gone and Dennis took his place and he was great (although for me Ruffin has the greatest soul voice of all time) but Dennis was fantastic too!

otis probably made that name change. and eddie died from lung cancer, imagine that he smoked like a chimmey and still keep that voice till about the 80's I think he was fighting it for a while just didn't tell anyone but you could hear it in his solo career and he songs started to be more christian like.

@aleeking1 At this point the only orig.Temps were Melvin & Otis. Dennis had taken over from David Ruffin & guessing 1 of these guys is Richard Street (he sang the guys early on [pre David Ruffin] & came back to help them out when Paul Williams drinking got bad - he took over officially when Paul 'quit'...Paul Williams commited suicide in '73). Not sure who the other guy would be but I think Eddie quit when Paul's health began to fail and Eddie couldn't cope with Paul being side lined because...

@kate22uk the other guy singing the high notes is Damon Harris from Baltimore. He took over for Eddie kendricks back in "71. His Real name is Otis Harris, but because they already had a guy name Otis in the group, Motown changed his name to Damon.

Think David Ruffin (drugs :-(, sadly as would be expected...) and Melvin Franklin (he struggled with his health for decades) died in the 90s too, they were definitely my personal favourites. The only true Temptations line-up for me is David, Melvin, Paul, Eddie and Otis - total legends!
