Okay, to clear this up. The song is talking about his friend Tim Ledbetter. Tim's brother was in the Gulf war and He died there. Eddie's brother also went. Eddie once said "I'd like to wish this war away, and I tried but it just, just don't happen, don't happen that way/And my brother...they sent him off to fight for the flag, I just, I don't hope he comes home in a box or a bag" They received the news in a letter. Eddie saluted the family and the flag on their porch. They just glared at him.
