Walela & Robbie Robertson are both of the 1st Peoples.Folks are taught 1st Peoples were ignorant untraveled savages when the fact is that they were the exact opposit. Beware of the yonegs lies/false teachings.Beware of those that have given away their freedom & jurisdiction at the cost of their Ancestors lives & suffering. They bow at the feet & kiss the hand of the very ones that did all they could to utterly eradicate our 1st People ancestors. They FAILED!
There are some that feel this song is not Cherokee but it actually is. It is the form of Cherokee/Hebrew of the Ancient Elders/First People.
The aim of the yonegs was to appear to have 'changed' our 1st People with their 'form' of Christianity where they took the children to their 'schools' cut their hair, forbade them to speak their language or talk of their history & family & ways.Remember, Truth will always come out. Lies fly because they have no feet on which to stand.Seek TRUTH Always.
Quantum is used only by the feds to keep track of their 'subjects'.True Cherokee remained faithful too truth & freedom, did not sign their name to give permission to be killed, starved, raped, experimented on & isolated on lands where they were also denied Freedom.
The 'subjects' of the feds are so afraid they might lose a penny of maintained isolation & silence that they deny all truth & Blood, They are not TRUE to their Ancestors or the price they paid in full to remain Free. We remain FREE.
This is not a literal translation. But the heart is here.... My name translated means "Wolf He Stands" but I go by "Standing Wolf". Just as Crazy Horse'
s real name was "His Horse is Crazy"... The Heart of things is not always a literal meaning...
@LunazxTerra I was told my ancestor who walked the trail was a chief, but I have no recollection of a name given. We believe a trace back to a man named Abraham LaFlar (not sure of spelling) is significant. Does that name mean anything to any one?
There are several singers singing this same song and all claim to be Cherokee, thus, I would have to accept the fact that it is Cherokee. Many people were taken from the tribes and never knew their families. Traditions are hard to gather and keep when one lives with the wind.
@echobiz I don't know anything about the translation. I wish, when I was a small child, I had paid more attention and ask more questions of my Grandmother when she spoke of her ancestors who died on the Trial of Tears. Listening to this beautiful song is a lovely way to start my day and connect with my roots.
@MsBJBarnes I wish I knew anything about my heritage. All I have are three pictures. One of my Great Grandmother and one of my Grandmother. Thinking back, I know my Gt Grandmother was full Cherokee, making my Grandmother half. My Gt Grandfather was the Sheriff of Norwood, MA - Later 1800's early 1900's. My Grandmother died when she was only 35 of cancer. My father was 12 and it was the depression years, so not much family gatherings. Spread from Boston to Indianapolis.
@echobiz Both my Gt Gdmother and Gdmother were beautiful women. The only thing I know about my Grandmother was she and my Grandfather were in the Army during WW1 and she played piano in Carnegie Hall. I must find some records and see if I can trace my Grandmothers family back a ways. It would be nice to find out how my Gt Grandmother ended up in Boston. So sad when families do not leave records or they get lost or destroyed because not felt important. The song is beautiful as are the rest.
@echobiz Records were destroyed because the hopes of the enemy were to completely destroy all our People. They FAILED! No records means the feds feared the Truth & our People outsmarted them.No records means our People took the Vow of silence. That makes it more difficult to find hard copy fed accounts but even when fining those, you will often find only fed lies.Keep looking, Pray look for Bible records etc. then look in your heart. You will find Cherokee there, alive & well. Blood to Blood.
@jgmiller100 I thank you very much and I will continue to research. It is important to know one's heritage. From the campfires many stories have been told of ancient civilizations and although there were no recorded records, ancestors survived down through the ages. We have been lucky to have such instruments to make it easier even though information is at times very difficult to find. I will keep making records. I hope my grandchildren will appreciate it more as they grow older.
@echobiz My GrandMother always said 'do not trust the feds' she & two of her sisters found her Daddy murdered, face down in a stream. Of course the feds & hard copy agents reported differently to cover their tracks & as so many other times nothing was done & no one was sought for his murder. I was 11 yrs old when G GrandMother passed over. She was full Blood. She was sold as a house servant very young. Never allowed to speak her language or of the family or past life. Records were 'created' cont
@jgmiller100 to hide her identity. All Libraries state that 30 yrs of records were destroyed in fire.Really? How many of those records would have told how the yonegs hunted our People for sport or how many of the women & girls they raped & killed? !st Peoples names Cherokee names were not recorded & many of the yoneg names given to them were jokes!
We KNOW in our hearts who we are & who we were born to be. They can not change or stop that.Start looking at the locations you know or think they cont
@jgmiller100 may have lived or traveled. Go back from the most recent relative you know to be of 1st Peoples. You will find many answers. Do not be disswayed that continue to surrender their jurisdiction & shame their Ancestors by kissing the feet of those that participated in the eradication of 1st People. They have become 'subjects' of the yonegs & have sold their freedom for subsidies & boundaries enclosing them in isolation & they don't even know it. Shameful
@jgmiller100 So many have sold out to government and no longer have their freedoms. When Mother Earth starts her cleansing, they will all be lost. Only the true in heart will have a chance to start again.
It would be most difficult to find records, but my great grandmother was married the the Sheriff of Norwood, MA., so there is a start that could lead to some history. Unfortunately the older generations are all gone now.
If I known my Grand Mother, would have written her history.
@echobiz It is comforting to know that you are 'The History' of 1st People Present & that your voice is theirs of the past. You Will find answers. I have heard folks speak of how 1st Peoples were 'Defeated' but they fail to realize that war was not declared as such on 1st Peoples. The encroachment then is the same as it is today. Deception, Broken Treaties and brute force. 1st Peoples were always put where land needed to cleared and worked & that being done, the yonegs took that also Cont.
@jgmiller100 1st Peoples were run to other lands with the same results & it has been repeated ever since. When our Peoples realize who they are, who they are descendants of & how the 'system' has worked them, many will reunite and indeed that is already happening. Division has no place with unity and Truth. 1st People were on this soil long before the yonegs regardless of the yoneg disinformation & chaos. You will do well. You will find answers. You will know & share truth. WaDo
@MsBJBarnes Thank you for your message. With my Grandmother only being quarter Cherokee (we've managed to prove she received checks), I guess I really don't have enough Cherokee blood to count. But spirit feels it. She had told me at one time some one who died on the Trail of Tears was a chief, but I could find only one chief who died on the Trail. Even with so little of the blood line left, I am still so proud.
@MsBJBarnes 1/4 is not a tiny quantum. Only the feds look at quantum & it is sad that folks have been 'taught' to think that this is what it is all about and matters but it is not. Heart draws are Blood to Blood (Cherokee to Cherokee) & it is withing each & put there by The Creator, not ourselves, not the feds & not others that think they somehow have the right to determine. You are Cherokee. Forget the quantum Forget the feds. Praise The Creator For This. We are who we were born to be. Cherokee
@jgmiller100 Thank you. The Heart draws are Blood to Blood explains why so many of us have such a longing to know more. It is not quantity of DNA but strong quality of the DNA that draws us.
@Zeno1999 I think the people will come together with old traditions as Mother Earth will reclaim much and through necessity we will again arise to care for the important things of life. Worthless, mind wasting TV and laziness will once again be replaced with real work, exercise and community pride. I enjoy playing this song and singing it every day as it is refreshing to the soul and puts energy into the day. Best wishes.
@GreenDay0734 You may have thought you were with real Cherokee, but if they were singing this, they were not. No self respecting Cherokee would sing this around other Cherokee. In fact, people in the Cherokee Nation feel that Rita Coolidge is lying about her heritage since she is not a member of any Cherokee tribe. That makes her in violation of the Indian Arts and Crafts Act. It is a pretty song. Nothing wrong with that. Just don't invent something fake to go with it.
I have some ancestor that was native American. But am not sure of the tribe since it was northern Wisconsin, my french side came from Qubec area. Love this song.
I don't look it but I am half blood quantum mostly Cherokee and Choctaw and I am Native American, I do not think this is exactly the proper translation, beautiful non the less.
@odestiny On my channel you will find a Cherokee man explaining this song and singing it. A member of the Cherokee tribe who is active in the culture of his people. There are others that also sing this chant who are Cherokee. Being only part Cherokee with no affiliation with my grandmothers people, I can only use common sense deductions. Nice to have facts if you have them. Thanks. ~~ Michael
years ago at a rainbow gathering in vermont a young woman taught us to sing this. she said the song came from a tribe in california and that the word means butterfly. as we were singing it together, a pale blue butterfly came fluttering into our circle and danced all around us singers. it even landed on me for a while, quite a thrill.
