@3dplayboy it never ends to amaze me why ppl thing the prius is gutless. it has plenty of power to get up and move. the electric motor provides the torque while the gasoline engine provides the power to the electric motor to get it up to speed then it alternates back and forth. it has equaly the amount of power feel as a normal 4cyl car minus the shifting of gears due to its cvt tansmission which i like better over the traditional trannys anyway. less falure that way.

Nearly every car manufacturer can build a car which does 0-100km/h in 6-7 seconds but only a few can make a car which gets over 50mpg!

The fact that you mention sheet metal is funny as well. Whether you are drilling 5 mile deep holes into the ground to draw up crude oil, refining it, molding and finishing it, or machining 10 sheets of metal, its impractical.

Also, it wont get 50mpg if you floor it

That's what I think people should do! Buy a light, inexpensive car with efficient engine and keep it for at least 10 years.

I know that there's a huge amount of energy required to build a new, and especially a hybrid car (Toxic accumulators, copper for the e-motors, aluminium and so on...).

But driving a 4-ton V8 is just as stupid, if not more. If you really use it for hauling stuff then it's ok but otherwise its idiotic!

Also, people won't give up acceleration for efficiency, they are too vain to do that

@immuki As I said, I don't like hybrids too. I think light cars with efficient gasoline or diesel engines are the best solution. But you don't have to give up acceleration for efficiency.

Take a look at the specs of the new VW Golf GTI engine: 2.0 litres (Relatively small engine), 211bhp, 280nm torque, from 0-60 in 6.9 seconds and you get 30mpg if you don't floor it all the time!

And I bet it takes less energy to produce and recycle than a prius...

For the 1500CC engine car 9.4 SEC is fast , have the good result in the fuel comsumtion and use high technology on the car control system

Some people they did not know the fuel price is very high in Denmark, Norway , Finland , Hong Kong ...........

i hate to say it, but that is slow. And although electric motors naturally have lots of torque, the size of the electric motor vs. the weight of the prius, dosent really make the acceleration much better. Just to give you an example my mates volkswagen golf 1.6ltr does 100km/h in about 9.0 sec. and its got less power than prius.

It's not bad. In fact, it beats the spec the car is supposed to be. And I don't know why people call it slow. All cars used to be 8-9 seconds. Now days due to faster fuel injection and what not you can get it faster, but honestly it's not THAT big of a difference especially when you don't need that kind of acceleration in day to day life. If people drive like that all the time, get a bmw 3 series.. otherwise just drive a prius and get a track car for your occasional fix!

@CJRamze ok man.., priuses are not built for racing , and so on .. i also know that it is not so fast ( 9.7 seconds )for american people , but in Austria for instance are most cars slower than priuses..

i am not a man who thinks when he has a prius he will safe the world .. io bought a prius cause i thought that it is comfortable a car , which is not slow , but also not fast like a galardo´s and which has a low fuel consumption.. what car do you have?

I had a Seat Ibiza (Based on the PD VW Engine) 100bhp with 200FTLB of torque stock and than had it remapped ti about 150bhp with 260ftlb 0-60 of about 7 seconds and I'd get 700 miles to a tank of fuel (£45) Now I have a Cupra with 253.9bhp Average MPG on the motorway is about 45mpg but it suffers around town! And american cars are horribly slow ;)
