@eroonee804 Also when I say it is "until it is pushed upon them" - We can look at the transition of Hip Hop, we can look at LL Cool J with romance ballads mixed with hardcore lyricism and then when Public Enemy came out it was more of a rebellious political side? My point? If you asked for a political Hip Hop in 1985 when Radio was released, most people would not believe it would happen and would not know what to say, until it was pushed about them.
@eroonee804 You can't blame the Fans at all. Why? Because the younger generation who are new to Hip Hop don't ask for more substance, because they don't what they are asking for. For example the younger generation only sees Eminem who raps about "real life" that is because of his Singles in the past few years. Honestly these Fans don't know what they want until it is pushed upon and plus they see no other Rappers to look to and don't know where to start to search for them.
anyone that wants to hear lupe and blu together needs to check out the all city chess club, its a group lupe put together of some of the most influential and upcoming conscious rappers in the industry
Some people; hate winter and want the sun to come out, but then they complain when the sun comes and say its too hot.
But Some people; hate winter, and want the sun to come out, and when it does, they want it to stay for as long as possible, they do NOT complain at all.
@jeffy12 you are entitled to your opinion i had to comment tho.. iunno Lupe is more complex to me .. and his shit just seams put together perfectly .. but im gonna listen to Blu a lot more to see
@shaqkhi lupe is more complex from a lyrical perspective but blu has a more introspective insight in my opinion. He also is more poetic than lupe and maintains a really soulful message and sound throughout almost every song
@anatolianINVASION most of the people who dont like lil wayne its because we think his dumb ass is overrated, we hate seeing people say he is the best rapper to ever hold a mic cause its garbage. he has some talent shown in his old stuff but his mainstream stuff is just simple rhymes and gets over played and the reason his songs are any good is cause he over pays for his beats
Being overhyped has nothing to do with him though. That's something the world around him made possible.
But hey I live in the Netherlands so I propably am not bombarded with Weezy and Young Money 24/7. That might also be the main problem for all the hate.
im so tired of people hatin on everybody and talking so negative about hip hop and how is a lost art. shit keeps moving its just not in the mainstream anymore. so quit bitchin and find it.
why do we have to talk about other rappers all the time? if im not on a Soulja Boy music video then i dont want to hear about him. this is Blu, a poet not any of the crappy mainstream artists frequently named
wayne is trash! not the best...but for a M.S. rapper hes ok. not the best but O.K. eminem is deff the best mainstream rapper there is and ever will be. and if you think otherwise you dont no hip-hop. underground shits all over mainstream. HANDS DOWN!!!!!!! BLU IS A BEAST!
Well although Lil Wayne isn't the greates artist, Like mostb artist his mainstream singles/songs are not as gud as his undergound songs... nWayne is talented...not as talented as blu or lupe
Blu, People Under the Stairs, Binary Star, Atmosphere, Madlib, DOOM, 9th Wonder... If u havent heard any of these artists please do me a favor and check them out!!! Underground for life. peace.
you cant compare wayne to blu they are two completely different people.. gucci wacka oj and all them.. just show how terrible "rap" can be (which is kinda good at the end of the day) so when we hear people like blu he just shows you a whole other side of music.. he re-opens a lot of peoples eyes. You got to take the good with the bad or else there would never be a balance.

@greatgrimes really? your really going to put blue, jcole, elzhi, fashawn and em over, biggie, pun, pac, big L, guru, canibus, kool g rap, krs one, nas and most of all RAKIM, nigga you delirious. I cant even stress how bad your lookin right now. I respect blu, and maybe he will be one of the greats, but right now he's just an ill lyrcist getting his name known.
@newyorknative88 dude u dumb for naming all those decased and retired rappers jus cause they old that make them better!? cmon dog stop hoppin on da bandwagon wit everybody else i respect da oldschool for paving the way but some of these cats out 2day jus better.. da game has changed and real hip hop cats cant get da shine they deserve without goin mainstream if blu was out around da time any of those cats was out theres no doubt he would rank supreme
@greatgrimes man your stupid if you think there retired canibus, nas, g rap and rakim still spittin, it is sad when all these mainstream niggas gettin recognized, i like blu, i never diss or said he wouldnt be big during those times, but when you got dumb mother fuckas like gucci or wanye killin rap, what are you suppose to do but listen to the classics?
@greatgrimes who said they were retired?, pac, big, big l and pun have been dead for a while but pac is still comin out with unreleased shit and guru just died recently and none of the others are even retired, u sound like a dumbass
@greatgrimes I don't know how you going to say respect to the old school and cats these days are better. Old school is STILL HERE. Wayne is garbage. Old school cats are not even retired. Nas just did a collab album with Damian (jr Gong) Marley. The song "As we enter" is raw. Even Wu is awake. Meth,Rae, and Ghost released Wu-Massacre a while ago. Most of the mainstream is weak. If Young money cats were out back then. They'd get shitted on. Thats why we listen to some older cats. They STILL exist.
thank you kpva ... gucci and lil wayne have their own originality/creativity.. everyones taking sides n shit but i just listen to wat makes me feel good in the moment
@SoulSista913 Yes but we must analyze what these mainstream rappers represent & stand for....lets start to get real & not get caught up in the mainstream artist as they have definately sold their souls. Peace be with you.
Also, Tonylove is absolutely right. There is more to the music than just the shitty content and "having fun." It has consequences far deeper than the music.
there's different categories of hip hop out there,i can't possibly hate on soulja boy,lil wayne, gucci mane or young jeezy just 2 name a few..cause not everybody likes elzhi, skyzoo, blu,or little brother....me i like the mainstream rappers BUT I absolutely hands down LUV the underground to the fullest....
@Emayzin Black gangster masculinity does the work of white supremacist patriarchial capitalism. All it requires in order for you to be promised that you'll get rich, is that you're willing to verbally commit black on black murder, control black females bodies, all in the name of getting paid.
I feel you, and it's pop music. However we can't ignore the immense detrimental consequences of the content they sing about and the images they portray. They fail to understand that they're burdened by representation (black people) and thus don't take it seriously.
I'm not advocating the destruction of pop rappers don't get me wrong.
@kpva0719 4 categories of hip hop...breakin, scratchin/turntablin, mc'ing and graffiti thatz it . ....mainstream rappers r watered down selloutz....u can hate on wayne n those older guyz cuz they grew up in a time of real shit n then put out bullshit.....people like soulja boy probly had no one to teach him of what was done before him so u cant really put any blame towardz him
@kpva0719 thats wrong. you can hate on lil wayne and soulja boy for raping mainsteam to the point where theres no substance in their songs. just old ass actors jumping up and down in oversized clothes talking about drugs they never push, jewels they dont own and success they dont deserve.
@qwertymac its not they're fault theyre successful though, you cant blame candy-rappers for giving their fans what they want, but you can blame the fans for not demanding more substance from their music. Either way though, i find whenever i like a song and it becomes popular, an aspect of the song is lost for me because people over-do it. if i heard blu on the radio all the time i would probably be sick of people telling me how soulful and good he is just like they tell me weezy is lyrical
@eroonee804 fuck that, thats jsut stupid, weezy isnt even lyrical. And i can NEVER get sick of music that is truthful and soulful!!
So dont agree with that statement, i would LOVE for music like this to get on radio. And if any any of his fans complaned because they got bored, FUCK EM. DID ANY ONE GET BORED OF TUPAC? I Think not,and i still bump his tracks every week!
@aman00777 okay what your saying is just ignorant. first, prove to me lil wayne isn't lyrical. second, if you knew anything about the history of the rap industry you would realize that Tupac got air time because he promoted violence, misogyny, and drug dealing through his music. While like Nas and other great rappers he took an intellectual stance on the issues, the record companies exploited his subject matter because they wanted to reinforce the stereotypes of blackness through rap music
There's a difference between people saying blu is soulful and people saying weezy is lyrical because blu is actually soulful and weezy isn't very lyrical at all.
@ratm2424 im sick of people saying wayne's not lyrical, if you don't acknowledge his talent than your just as ignorant as someone that thinks that blu isn't worth listening to because its just someone complain about his problems. a lot of really good rappers have given wayne credit for his lyricism, like its why he's so popular. many of the mainstream songs he has don't reflect that, but if you listen to his old stuff or mix tapes like the drought 3 you can't legitimately deny his skills
@eroonee804 I will admit, his older stuff (Carter 1 & 2 etc) is far superior to the shell of his former self that he is. You are also guilty of being ignorant, not letting other people express their opinions on his music. All and all Wayne probably turns him off due to his recent lines like "I go so hard, they call me gosohard" and things of that nature. and he is not popular due to his lyricism, he is popular due to catchy hooks/easyto remember verses and beats.
@StealthlyElephant okay, i suppose thats true for like sorority girls and high school fan boys, but anyone that actually likes lil wayne is probably coming from a genuine place considering the amount of good material he has our there. fans of underground rap usually resent the mainstream genre and discredit it entirely, even though this is not accurate. It is true that in comparison, underground is much richer, but artists like wayne cannot be discredited just bc a lot of people like them
@kpva0719 i think its more that different people like different music. those that listen to the mainstream are usually concerned about different things in life (aka don't notice anything but the clubs), those that listen to underground are more aware. glad to know that their are some in between
Instant classic...what do u expect...rell hip hop...fuck soulja boy, Bum Ass Dallas Rappers talkin' bout that "do the stanky leg bull shit", D-Town Down, WeS WeS Yall, Yay yayyyyyyy, T.I., Ludacris, Lil' Wayne(all sell outs) an the like..B-L-U...is the truth...one...d:-(D>
I think blu needs to be rewarded for his talents. It's not easy selling records underground, but Blu is one of those artist that can nearly accomplish that.
@Prophet6000 VERY true but it's not bad to like all the different kinds of hip hop without hip hop..its just a beautiful that can hit you from all different angles
@Prophet6000 not only is he nothing special, he's pure shit. MC's like kanye and lupe are "nothing special", not saying they're bad, just many people are on their levels, but lil wayne is below that.
@zionstatus heard that. Wayne was dope on Drought 3. still one of my fav mixtapes ive ever heard, since then its all been catered to the people that are on his nuts.. get off him and maybe hell start makin music again
@Prophet6000 THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ive been tryin to tell these mainstream drunk fools that lil wayne sucks but non believe me they just say im hatin, if they knew anything about hip hop they would know hes nothin great
@Prophet6000 nah dog, I love all hip-hop, you just have to have the mind state that not everybody has the same style and not everybody likes the same shit. people take it too personal but the way the dude makes music has nothing to do with that.
Yup, and on drakes too, foolish people, anyways it's better to keep him low, and have his music real and humble then have him rich, and his music with a lost cause
Money doesn't necessarily corrupt people. Not to say that it doesn't, but it's fallacious to assume that everyone is so swayed by money. It's just a shame when some people will never hear of him even though they'd probably love his music, or even people that blow him off since they've never heard of him before.
It doesn't matter, as soon as he signs the pen, he's they'res if they say rap he says how long? They say "New Age'd Beats" He's on. (Sorry i had to rhyme) but it's true. Labels don't give a shit about you nor music, just money. If labels cared about good music Blu, would have been signed, alot of other people would have been signed and autotune would be used sparingly.

I feel you, and it's pop music. However we can't ignore the immense detrimental consequences of the content they sing about and the images they portray. They fail to understand that they're burdened by representation (black people) and thus don't take it seriously.
I'm not advocating the destruction of pop rappers don't get me wrong.

@kpva0719 yeah but all that Tpain shit is worthless, can't even name more because they sound like shit so I don't bother checking...

@kpva0719 4 categories of hip hop...breakin, scratchin/turntablin, mc'ing and graffiti thatz it . ....mainstream rappers r watered down selloutz....u can hate on wayne n those older guyz cuz they grew up in a time of real shit n then put out bullshit.....people like soulja boy probly had no one to teach him of what was done before him so u cant really put any blame towardz him
jus sayin though
xlqepksq 1 year ago
@kpva0719 ya like you can't hate kid cudi and rappers like that, the mainstream rappers that are real are the best or should be the best

@kpva0719 So you LOVE Hip-Hop, and LIKE Hip-POP. ;)
Oh the lawls.
bob333336 1 year ago
@kpva0719 thats wrong. you can hate on lil wayne and soulja boy for raping mainsteam to the point where theres no substance in their songs. just old ass actors jumping up and down in oversized clothes talking about drugs they never push, jewels they dont own and success they dont deserve.
qwertymac 11 months ago 2
@qwertymac its not they're fault theyre successful though, you cant blame candy-rappers for giving their fans what they want, but you can blame the fans for not demanding more substance from their music. Either way though, i find whenever i like a song and it becomes popular, an aspect of the song is lost for me because people over-do it. if i heard blu on the radio all the time i would probably be sick of people telling me how soulful and good he is just like they tell me weezy is lyrical
eroonee804 10 months ago 26
@eroonee804 yeah i agree. i cant believe it got to the point where justin bieber fans cry when he doesnt win a grammy. that shits retarded.
qwertymac 10 months ago
@qwertymac
thats only because his fans are 8-15 year old girls, that shit aint even worth stressing lol good music will always come out on top
sovietsexserpent 9 months ago
@eroonee804 fuck that, thats jsut stupid, weezy isnt even lyrical. And i can NEVER get sick of music that is truthful and soulful!!
So dont agree with that statement, i would LOVE for music like this to get on radio. And if any any of his fans complaned because they got bored, FUCK EM. DID ANY ONE GET BORED OF TUPAC? I Think not,and i still bump his tracks every week!
aman00777 3 months ago
@aman00777 okay what your saying is just ignorant. first, prove to me lil wayne isn't lyrical. second, if you knew anything about the history of the rap industry you would realize that Tupac got air time because he promoted violence, misogyny, and drug dealing through his music. While like Nas and other great rappers he took an intellectual stance on the issues, the record companies exploited his subject matter because they wanted to reinforce the stereotypes of blackness through rap music

@eroonee804
There's a difference between people saying blu is soulful and people saying weezy is lyrical because blu is actually soulful and weezy isn't very lyrical at all.
ratm2424 2 months ago
@ratm2424 im sick of people saying wayne's not lyrical, if you don't acknowledge his talent than your just as ignorant as someone that thinks that blu isn't worth listening to because its just someone complain about his problems. a lot of really good rappers have given wayne credit for his lyricism, like its why he's so popular. many of the mainstream songs he has don't reflect that, but if you listen to his old stuff or mix tapes like the drought 3 you can't legitimately deny his skills
eroonee804 2 months ago
@eroonee804 I will admit, his older stuff (Carter 1 & 2 etc) is far superior to the shell of his former self that he is. You are also guilty of being ignorant, not letting other people express their opinions on his music. All and all Wayne probably turns him off due to his recent lines like "I go so hard, they call me gosohard" and things of that nature. and he is not popular due to his lyricism, he is popular due to catchy hooks/easyto remember verses and beats.
StealthlyElephant 1 month ago
@StealthlyElephant okay, i suppose thats true for like sorority girls and high school fan boys, but anyone that actually likes lil wayne is probably coming from a genuine place considering the amount of good material he has our there. fans of underground rap usually resent the mainstream genre and discredit it entirely, even though this is not accurate. It is true that in comparison, underground is much richer, but artists like wayne cannot be discredited just bc a lot of people like them
eroonee804 1 month ago
@kpva0719 i think its more that different people like different music. those that listen to the mainstream are usually concerned about different things in life (aka don't notice anything but the clubs), those that listen to underground are more aware. glad to know that their are some in between

I think blu needs to be rewarded for his talents. It's not easy selling records underground, but Blu is one of those artist that can nearly accomplish that.

bloodmoney52 2 years ago 4
@Prophet6000 VERY true but it's not bad to like all the different kinds of hip hop without hip hop..its just a beautiful that can hit you from all different angles
FluenCy100 1 year ago
@Prophet6000 not only is he nothing special, he's pure shit. MC's like kanye and lupe are "nothing special", not saying they're bad, just many people are on their levels, but lil wayne is below that.
fergybabes 1 year ago
@fergybabes Dude Lupe is better than Kanye, what are you talking about?
ShadowNinja215 1 year ago 2
@ShadowNinja215 yeah im not saying they're bad, listen to them all the time, but they're not like prestigious MC's, they're just quite good.

wayne was sick back in the day (old wayne RIP) and then he went hella mainstream
zionstatus 1 year ago
@zionstatus heard that. Wayne was dope on Drought 3. still one of my fav mixtapes ive ever heard, since then its all been catered to the people that are on his nuts.. get off him and maybe hell start makin music again

@Prophet6000 THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ive been tryin to tell these mainstream drunk fools that lil wayne sucks but non believe me they just say im hatin, if they knew anything about hip hop they would know hes nothin great
hands1341 1 year ago
@Prophet6000 nah dog, I love all hip-hop, you just have to have the mind state that not everybody has the same style and not everybody likes the same shit. people take it too personal but the way the dude makes music has nothing to do with that.
APMD802 1 year ago
@Prophet6000 Idk dude I like guys like Blu and Fashawn, but I also like Lil Wayne. Guess it's just a matter of opinion.

Yup, and on drakes too, foolish people, anyways it's better to keep him low, and have his music real and humble then have him rich, and his music with a lost cause
Churchboy03 2 years ago 5
Money doesn't necessarily corrupt people. Not to say that it doesn't, but it's fallacious to assume that everyone is so swayed by money. It's just a shame when some people will never hear of him even though they'd probably love his music, or even people that blow him off since they've never heard of him before.
Shokk1234567 2 years ago 2
It doesn't matter, as soon as he signs the pen, he's they'res if they say rap he says how long? They say "New Age'd Beats" He's on. (Sorry i had to rhyme) but it's true. Labels don't give a shit about you nor music, just money. If labels cared about good music Blu, would have been signed, alot of other people would have been signed and autotune would be used sparingly.
Churchboy03 2 years ago 3
Actually.
Blu is signed.
To a Major now.
ALL Labels aren't the same.
