my memory of car load of sailors we were pounding down 101 back and forth from san diego and LA. This was cranked up -- a LOT and also Do you love me-- about that time
old guy ex sailor and ex marine .. not too many of us around haha
1962 and 14 yrs. old. An 8-room school-house in rural Indiana. A gym exactly like the one in the film "Hoosiers". We didn't know much, but had every single hit 45 record ever heard on the radio. Our tiny sock hops brought us to fall on the floor at the end of the night due to NEVER stopping still to this kind of sound for HOURS.
@baldur1377 You then, of all people, should buy Stu's book, shipped & autographed for $21. Available at his website, stuwho dot com. You will not be disappointed. I've thought about doing a book review of it and posting it. It's a very revealing book about the highs and lows of the music business. He was only hired as A&R man at Colpix by chance. The Marcels literally appeared on his doorstep one freezing day & only learned Blue Moon hours before they recorded it. chuck
@baldur1377 This beast actually sold 2.5 million copies!!! Recorded in a single take! I spent an hour with Stu Phillips last week - he was the producer who put the Marcels on the map with this song 50 years ago. An amazing composer/arranger/conductor, he did the music for Battlestar Gallactica, Buck Rogers & Knight Rider as well as 12 albums as leader of Hollyridge Strings. go to his channel at bsgkr2000 & show Stu some love - he's earned it. We wouldn't have this song without him !!! chuck
@baldur1377 because the two versions sound different, to my ears the first version in mono sounds better - it has more energy and life. It's like the Beatles songs, people know the stereo mixes but the mono ones apparently were the ones they spent time making sure they sounded good, stereo wasn't really important to them - most people couldn't play it yet. So apparently the mono mixes sound like almost a different record.

This is a nasty remake. The original 1961 Colpix Records is the best. This a cheap re-do.

that's not origjnal - it never was in stereo...

@timbearcub oh and they didn't 'stereoize' it - it was a total later re-record. Different record.
