  • I love your videos make more please. Mezoti is happy. He is also probably is showing off for the ladies to impress them . LOL He is impressing the ladies. LOL

  • Love your videos.

  • your living my dream!

  • Wow our muscovy girl Bounty does the same thing in our bed every morning! :) She swims under the blanket and back wagging her tail

  • Wow our muscovy Bounty does the same thing in our bed every morning! :)

  • the leg thing - Snuggles does it when she is getting ready to lay. Don't know why your boy does it. (I've found Snuggles in the cabinet under the bathroom sink doing that)

  • interesting! Keep up your good work. I like Mezoti.

  • how do you take care of their dropping?

  • I pick them up of course. I'm a stay at home mom and so I'm able to pick up after them when I need to. We also have towels and sheets over the carpets and on the bed. But they do make duck diapers as well.

  • @Kasia5872 i have a muscovy duck and he also lives in the house! i got him as a baby but hes goin thru that stage now were he is starting to get his black and whte feathers! he wheres dipers that i made him and wen he dirtys them i just wash the in the washer! my parents dont like him to much but they have to admit hes the best pet i ever had!

  • you are real animal lover

  • I sure am! Especially the ones that are injured or handicapped. We have a lot of crippled ducks, birds and chickens. One chicken was hit by a car 5 weeks ago, she had missing skin and an open wound on her side, broken leg...She had MAGGOTS. We didn't think she would make it, but it's been five weeks now and she is WALKING. A true miracle, just like Mezoti. All of mine are miracles.

  • I have 5 cats (previous strays), 2 dog (strays that came and stayed), one house duck (goes outside too), we have hatched and released 12 other wild duck eggs, 3 rabbits, one guinea pig, one love bird, 12 zebra finches, 2 budgies, and a box turtle. All of these animals were rescues.

  • Most of ours are rescues too. We have 19 birds, 7 chickens, 9 ducks, a dog and cat now. All the ducks were rescues and 6 of the chickens were, and 13 of the birds too. They seem to just fall into our hands and hearts, and they each have a very special story. Mezoti was snatched by a seagull while still in his egg (Feb 14th, 2008) and then dropped from 7 feet up. The egg broke and the gull tried to eat him. I took Mezoti home to die in peace, and now look at him.

  • My duck has his duck dance that he does in the water and in the house. Even if there is no water. I read about this and found out that each duck has a water ritual or dance that they do from birth. Mine started it hours after hatching and still does the same dance/dry swim all the time. He does it when he is happy. I just chalk it up to duck joy.

  • Oh WOW!!! That is so totally amazing, as our wood duck, Scooter, has been taking "dry baths" for years now and I never knew what that meant or why, then the others do it too. They fluff out their feathers completely and look twice the size they really are when they do this. Aftwerards they preen and do the wing flutter to dry out their wings even though they aren't even wet. Does your duck do any air biting? Mezoti does it all the time to show his joy and happiness.

  • God gave us all these wonderful creatures, I thank him greatly for it as without them, this world would be a very boring place.

  • I never imagined the joy they would bring me. I now have 5 ducks, 4 chickens, 19 birds, a dog, cat and 4 newborn kittens my husband found in the backyard 4 weeks ago that I am raising until they are old enough to be adopted out. I would go totally insane if I didn't have them to spend my days with every day. I am so thankful for all of them, and each one comes with an amazing rescue story.

  • Update on our increase...We have 19 birds, 7 chickens and 9 ducks now. Each one of them were sent to us by God because He knew we would love them give them each a wonderful forever home.

  • I forwarded this to my dad. He said "Yes. I think it is a young male trying to entice a female to a good nesting site."

Mezoti is definitely a young male, perhaps with the canizie (whitehead) gene.

Somehow you are going to have to break it to Mezoti that you can't fit in the box lol!

  • I can TOO fit into the box. LOL He is only 8 months old, so yes, he is still young, but he established himself at the top of the pecking order in our house, so he rules the roost.

  • We had muscovy ducks for about 15 years when I was young and used similar sized boxes for them to nest in. I never saw this behavior (esp. the foot scooping action) but it certainly looks like he's prepping a nest. I have rarely seen males fooling around with a likely nest spot. The "air biting" with beak nearly vertical is something they do when socializing heavily so he means for you to see it - and I have always seen it in the context of mixed gender groups.

  • He spends at least 3 hours a day in there and we never close the door, so he can come and go as he pleases. He only does the air biting when any of us humans are around, especially me. He hatched on Valentines Day of all days, and I took him home so he could die in peace when a seagull snatched him still inside his egg, dropped him and started to eat him for lunch. So he imprinted on me.

  • hehehe, this is cute as heck! Are you sure he's a he and not a she? Looks like nesting/brooding behavior. . .and very protective of the space, too. . .like a hen would be near eggs.

Anyway, nice video. . .cute music. :)

    Feather

  • Mezoti is definitely a boy. Don't ask how I know, but believe me, I know 100% that he is a HE. He is my most affectionate duck ever. I've had him since he was an egg.

  • King Mezoti, ruler of the roost

  • Yep, that he is. And he knows it and he lets anyone else here know that he is the ruler of the roost.

  • Well, sure, you would know best. Has he fathered any Muscovy chicks yet? Mucovies (and here I stand corrected, thank you) show differences in sex by the relative sizes of their wattles, don't they? In which case, your Mezoti IS most definitely a male. :) Again, thank you for the correction and have a great day :)

  • He has not fathered any ducklings at all. We have a muscovy girl, Coco-Bean, and she sings to him and tries getting his attention, but he is only interested in ME as his mate. He is a human imprinted duck and I don't know if he will ever realize he had a house full of female ducks at his disposal. The red mask on muscovy ducks is called carbuncles I think. Wattles are the hangy thingies under a chickens beak. On a male muscovy it covers almost the whole head, and the females just the eyes.

  • Oh how I love Mezoti...that sweet duck always makes me smile!

  • He acts like a puppy dog. When he's happy, he pants and wags his tail. He is a lap duck, always wants to be with me because he is imprinted on me. A bird or duck will imprint on the first moving thing they see when they first open their eyes after hatching. So he thinks he is human and I am his flock. My starling, Malutka, is also imprinted on me and she would rather spend all day with me than with the other 3 starlings. Mezoti is very affectionate. He hatched on Valentines Day.

  • WTF thats funny

  • I've been told he's showing dominant behavior, so you're right. LOL He attacked the roosters a couple of times, but not my little rooster, I won't let Mezoti go near him, he's too fragile. We changed Yodas name to Quasimoto, because he walks like the hunchback of Notre Damme.

  • Lol! glad you posted this. ur vids remind me of dear Starchic. Ur vid, "My darling duck Mezoti is hurt" brought tears to my eyes. I can't imagine Mezoti's life and I was shocked when u said a hungry seagull just attacked him! He's so brave and ready for everything.

Glad he's well and keep up the vids!!

  • Mezoti was still in his egg when the seagull just snatched the egg up and then dropped him to the ground and started eating him. So I took him home to die in peace. He had a hole in his bill. But 2 hours later he was peeping.
