  • giant squids have 2 big ass i think 10 ft long tentacles so that can't b it and also it looks kinda small

  • This is a humboldt, not an Architeuthis dux.

  • I love how it gets pulled away by something i noticed no camera view for that part they probably killed it bastards:(

  • This is a species called Taningia Danae

  • Its brill watching people go down to the very deep bus there like 'oh new creature oh another new creature' so fuckin funny!

  • Either that's a young giant or that's one big Humboldt. Or perhaps it's something else after all our knowledge of the deep is very limited.

  • It is a T. dane the fins are very large and there are no feeding tentacles.

  • lol

    Mechanical arm *poke* *poke*.

And not a single fuck was given that day.

  • No way that's a giant squid.

  • I don't think it's a Humboldt either. Their "wings" end more at the top of their head, and this squid's "wings" end WAY lower. Look at a picture of a Humboldt and compare it to this squid, you can tell the difference.

  • omg!

  • That's propably a Taningia Danae. Since it is not emitting lights or trying to bite the ROV, I'd say it's curious. Check the depth reading: the squid HAS to hold firm at that speed. An attacking or defensive squid also should've grabbed the hydraulic arm when harassed.

Actually, turning off a spotlight (light emission) at 1:34 marks the single time the squid gets nervous. I bet it thought the ROV was threatening it, not the other way around! It's not a giant squid, and it's not an attack.

  • @aerisama I think it is too, just from the "wings." This squid and the Taningia Danae's both end very low.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, imagine you eating that squid.

  • Squids and technology ... throw in some manga and this will be a rage in Japan !!!

  • The arms indeed look like a Humbolt's, but the "wings" not quite. And also they are very much hit-and-run. This one kept sucking the steel frame, lol

  • No i think that it's not an Humbot one. Best regards from Italy!!

  • Yeah, that's a Humbolt Squid, not a giant squid...

  • It's practicing making love. Please, don't interrupt this fragile creature.

  • Lol Awww how cute. It's in love with the lights on the ROV. I don't think that it's however a "Giant squid". I agree with @TJAMES19831 that it may be, the "Rojo diablo". :D *waves*

  • It's a Humbolt not a giant squid, a Humbolt gets to about 6 feet a giant squid is about

30-60 feet long an ROV is not very large do the math

  • @GUDUON yea its definitly not a giant.(dont giants have like two extra long arms)

  • i want to eat it !

  • @koni761 not b4 i do

  • this is from brazil, look to de symbol. PETROBRAS BR (BRASIL)

    hahahaha nice.

  • its like F U SOCIETY

  • DAMN NATURE YOU SCARY!

  • He's either gonna kill us, eat us or hump us - Dave Lister

  • giant squid= giant sushi+ LARGE sashimi= great :D

  • Yeah, that's a humbolt. Archituthis (I don't think I spelled it right) are not easy to catch on tape. I think there's like only two video clips of true giant squid.

  • Hey Get Off~! lol

  • wow huge

  • 1:04-1:07

"Are you trying to get my attention?"

  • That is a dodiscus- or as called a Humbolt squid. they grow up to 6ft and then some. There is a colossal squid Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni is real and lives in Antarctic waters. They are NOT extinct. On On February 22, 2007, it was announced by authorities in New Zealand that the largest known Colossal Squid had been captured. The specimen weighed1,091 lb and was estimated to measure 33 ft in length. it was known to be a Juvenile female. if u dont believe me- google, wikipedia or youtube it.

  • as for hte comments on this vid, i really cant say if its a Humboldt or Giant Squid, the size of the Fins doesnt seem small enough to be a Humboldt, their exceptionally large fins, that could be a Juvenile Architeuthis....wait, just remembered somethin, yeah thats a Humboldt, Humboldts although possessing 2 longer Striking arms which are the ACTUAL Tentacles, Giant Squid Tentacles are ALOT longer, Humboldt have somewhat short ones, btw the 8 arms of the same size are simply called Arms

  • yes that is correct but did you see that same squid examined after it died? it was disappointingly measured at only 15ft long. but the good news was it was estimated as a young squid.

  • yep if thats a young squid i wonder what the adults look like.

  • not giant, but a humboldt squid.

  • I Still think thats a big Humbolt. Don't Giants have two extra long arms? I think that is one of the differences

  • Idiot. ALL squids have those two long hunting tentacles.

  • @TJAMES19831

    yeah thats a red humbolt.

  • it's called a Colossal squid

  • um.. do you mean Architeuthis dux? Yes, Colossal squid do in fact exist, try google before you post ignorant shit.

  • Colossal squid are not extinct. You seem very confused.

  • lol I know. They do exist, but they're very rare, and, as such, aren't usually seen. I just like a good argument =P (usually when im bored)

  • Calling people idiot and moron and then stating false information does not equal good argument.

  • Does for me =P

  • @Spore9996 dued stop contradicting yourself, dont say the are extinct but post again they do exist, (besides vassup is right when you just keep calling peeps morons and crud like that, its is fairly retarded

  • Then why do they keep finding fresh corpses on beaches or in nets?

  • those are giant squids.

  • Colossal Squid are also another exceptionally large breed of Squid, their meaner than Giant Squid, and much Heavier, but htey dont get as LONG, not to mention its Architeuthis Dux ty! Mr. Noob

  • Ok, I was typing teh scientific name from meory, i couldn't remember it exactly, Mr. Retarted Noob. The thing about the agressiveness is just a cousing of teh giant squid... And the weight is just another cousin. I've seen and heard of this.

  • It's a good video but that wasn't a giant squid......... Sadly

  • the squid is in love with the ROV

  • yeah, that giant squid was just attracted to the light.

  • That so called "Giant Squid" wasn't attacking. It was attracted to the light on the radio-controlled underwater vessel.

  • I don't really think thats a giant squid. the fin is way too big.

  • thats what makes me THINK its a Giant Squid, if anything its a Juvenile one, the fin is way too large to be a Humboldt Squid which get to roughly the size of the creature in the video

  • OM NOM NOM NOM NOM!!

  • I could be wrong, but that looks like a Humbolt squid to me.....

  • You aren't wrong. That is a Humboldt Squid. The blood-red color & the wide fins are a dead give-away.

  • Actually giant and colossal squid can change colour depending on their mood as well as humboldt so if it weren't for the fins and the wrong proportions this could actually have been a giant squid

  • Reminds me of 20K leagues under the sea. Good movie.

  • Which one, the 1954 film produced by Disney?

  • Yeah, the GOOD one.

  • looks like a giant sushi if you look at it away from the computer

  • yea thats a young Architeuthis the its back fins r different that of a humble squid

  • How big do you think it is there?

How big do you think it might get?

    Neat footage.

  • wat a stupid fucking animal

  • It look like it's more curious about the machine than attacking it.

  • is that a small giant squid or a humble squid?? it looks like a giant squid cause the humbles fins r different

  • its either a very young Giant Squid aka Architeuthis, or its a Humboldt Squid, the size of it in the image makes me think its a Humboldt, they also live very deep in the ocean ad they can reach about 6-8 feet long at full grown adults, also Humboldts are very aggressive

  • Best proof of a Giant Squid

  • In the Gulf of Mexico!? Don't those things live in the Pacific Ocean?

  • definatly humbolt giant squids are about 60 feet but still big squid

  • It's truly amazing the things that are in our oceans. We've explored more of space than we have the depths of our own oceans.

  • indeed. I wouldn't be surprised at what might be deep under our surface. Could be a whole nother world of giant fish we havent seen before

  • yikes

  • this video is amazing, good stuff man! so cool!

  • I see an eye...but then again...I see no eye =S and I agree...humbolt...

  • it looks like it cuts one of it's tentacles ? O_o

the one on the right, near the end of the clip, it's all flailing around, and it looks like the end is tangling off. Ouch.

  • pokemon cota catch them all!!!

  • it looks more like a humbolt

  • It's a bit small, isn't it? Maybe it's just a baby...

  • jeez thats some big calamari.
